Soap dish for the bathroom is not just a stand designed to store bar soap, but also a stylish accessory that harmoniously completes the design of the entire room.

Bar soap remains quite popular - judging by independent customer surveys, about 60% of Russian residents use it.

Features

Today, the design and method of mounting soap dishes allows you to choose a convenient and practical model for any style of bathroom.

Bar soap requires proper storage in between use, otherwise it will crack or get wet. A dry bar of soap will retain its qualities longer, a pleasant aroma and a beautiful shape.

The bathroom is a place to bring a person's appearance in order, as well as a short rest after a hard day, so care for a soap box should be minimal.

You can purchase both a separate soap dish and a complete set in the same style with a dispenser for liquid soap and a glass for toothbrushes.

Species overview

Mounts and supports for solid soap are widely represented on the modern market, they have their own characteristics and store this product in different ways.

Modern soap dishes are divided into several types, described below.

  • Wall mounted. Mounts for soap dishes are mounted in the tile. In order for the tile not to crack, glue the place of drilling with several layers of adhesive tape and wait about 1 hour, after which you can safely drill holes.
  • Hinged. It is fastened with metal rings to the edge of the bathtub or sink, as well as to the curtain rod, and can be easily removed if necessary.
  • On the suction cups. This option is fixed to the lateral inner surface of the bathtub or sink.Over time, the suction cups may crack, and under the weight of the soapy piece, it may not stick well.
  • Combined. Combined soap dish with toothbrush holder or mounted in a shower rack.
  • Tabletop. This option is placed on a horizontal surface without any fasteners. Among such accessories, models with an inclined surface or one inclined wall are popular, along several grooves of which excess water flows and does not dirty the horizontal surface of the sink.
  • With magnetic mount. A magnet is mounted in this design of the soap dish, and a second magnetic plate is inserted into the bar of soap. This option allows the soap to be in limbo and dry faster.
  • Grater for soap. This is a suspended design with a spring mechanism (mounted on a wall). When pressed, it cuts off the chips from a piece, while the soap remains completely dry. The only negative is that the chips are poorly soaped in hard water.
  • Built-in soap dish. These are recesses in the body of the bathtub or sink. Such soap dishes are often performed in the wall of the shower. Their main disadvantage is that the moisture does not drain, and the soap becomes sour.

All described designs of soap dishes can be made:

  • without bottom - soapy water flows down freely and can stain plumbing;
  • with one bottom - water is collected around the soap, a solid piece of sour;
  • double bottom - the liquid collects in the pan, leaving the soap dry, and the accumulated moisture should be poured out in a timely manner.

Any soap dish requires care, and which one is easier to take care of - it is up to the housewife to decide.

Materials

  • Metal. A shiny nickel-plated or chrome-plated soap dish will decorate any bathroom interior. However, if the water has a high lime content, white streaks and plaque will be provided, which will have to be constantly cleaned.
  • Ceramics. Beautiful and hygienic, but rather fragile.
  • Strained glass. Durable material. It looks aesthetic at the beginning of use, but, despite the matte surface, all drops and stains will be visible on it.
  • Acrylic. Similar to glass, but more durable and durable.
  • Plastic - It is a lightweight, but short-lived material that quickly fouls, but is easily cleaned. If the product is cheap or home-made, it will exude an unpleasant toxic smell, which can be invisible in the store, but will clearly manifest itself in a confined bathroom. Among other things, toxins can penetrate a wet bar of soap and cause allergic reactions.
  • Wood - it is an environmentally friendly material, however, beech or cedar wood products are expensive, and an ordinary tree quickly shrinks and loses its beauty. Harmful bacteria can develop in cracks.
  • Silicone. It has a dust-repellent property, is waterproof, strikes with a variety of shapes and a wide palette of bright colors.
  • Rubber. It is an analogue of silicone, but mold is easy to start in it. Over time, such a soap box will crack.

It is advisable to give preference to soap dishes made of hygienic materials that do not require special care.

Design options

Color and shape should be in harmony with the interior. If the tiles in the bathroom are in warm colors or in bed colors, then it will be appropriate to buy soap dishes in tone - bright colors will not work.

When choosing a soap dish design, some nuances should be taken into account.

  • The style of the bathroom and existing accessories. Soap dishes in a restrained style, delicate bed shades and classic shapes: oval or round are suitable for the classic interior. For high-tech style, you can choose chrome stands and mounts of unusual shapes.
  • The size. For a small bathroom, you can choose compact models. In a spacious bathroom with a window, an elegant large soap dish in the form of a shell or a palm leaf will look perfect.
  • Functionality. Soap dish should prevent the hard soap bar from becoming soft, while cleaning it should not be frequent.

A combination of colors should also be considered. For example, yellow goes well with blue, but it quickly tires the look. Such an ensemble is better to use in clothes than in the bathroom.

How to choose?

Buying soap dishes is not such a simple matter. When choosing, you should consider quality and practicality.

Additional selection criteria are described below.

  • Security. If the house has small children, it is better to use environmentally friendly and strong materials, such as wood.
  • Water drainage holes. They should be quite large and have a convenient shape to easily pass the water draining from the soap, without leaving dents on the piece.
  • Durability. Some ceramic and glass models are quite fragile, but a metal or silicone soap dish will last for many years.
  • Moisture resistant.

You can make a soap dish with your own hands from a heated plastic bottle or from a coconut shell, but it is better to purchase a stylish factory-made accessory made with all the requirements. In this case, the bar of soap will not be soaked, it will retain its properties and aesthetic appearance for a longer time, and the bathroom will be complemented by a stylish interior element.
