A bath with hot water is a remarkable achievement of civilization. But besides the plumbing and communications, there should be additional elements that increase the comfort of hygiene procedures. One of these components is glass partitions, which deserves special attention.

Application features

Glass curtain for the bathroom does not just look attractive. It avoids splashing onto the floor. The moistened tile is very slippery, and falling on it is very likely. Water splashes on the walls are not so dangerous, but hardly anyone will like streaks, drips.

But the question may arise why it is necessary to use glazing, and not fabric screens or plastic structures.

Advantages and disadvantages

The glass partition looks very stylish and adds extra elegance to the room. The choice of such designs is very large, and you can always choose the best modification for yourself. Glass curtains can be applied regardless of the types of bathtubs and their sizes. They have other advantages:

  • glass is much smaller than any tissue, subject to the formation of bacterial colonies;
  • proper care avoids plaque on it;
  • glass partitions will make the room more comfortable and do not visually reduce its area;
  • this material practically does not break, and if it breaks, then there is almost no risk of being cut by such fragments.

However, glass bath screens have negative aspects:

  • they cost more than tissue analogues;
  • it is impossible to mount such products without proper experience;
  • you will need to take care of the septum systematically and very carefully (otherwise fungal foci that are difficult to remove will appear).

Types of glass

All-glass partitions are formed from large glass sheets. Some auxiliary constructions are not provided. The only exception is the fasteners that allow you to fix the curtain on the ceiling, floor or walls. Important: glass for all-glass structures is taken only with increased resistance to stress. All suitable materials look good and very practical, but quite expensive.

Often, in order to save, they use frame glazing. It implies retention of glass by profiles based on:

  • wood;
  • painted steel;
  • aluminum alloys;
  • plastics.

Glass blocks

The use of special glass blocks allows you to achieve a radically different look. It is impossible to confuse such a design and an option with sliding structures. Rather, the glass block partition resembles a full-fledged wall. A similar effect is achieved when using double-glazed windows. A typical block gives the impression of a brick (there are even similar designs in form).

Characteristic features of such partitions are:

  • rather large thickness;
  • significant mass;
  • reinforced sound insulation.

In the past, fences for the bathroom made of glass blocks have already been used and even were in demand. But only at the modern technological level did their renaissance become possible. Most often, the size of such structures is 0.19x0.19x0.08 and 0.24x0.24x0.08 m. Some manufacturers can offer glass blocks measuring 0.19x0.09x0.08 m. The smallest of the mass-produced formats is 0.115x0.115x0. 08 m and 0.06 x 0.146 x 0.08 m; the mass of structures ranges from 2.5 to 4 kg.

Glass blocks are found on the Russian market:

  • rectangular;
  • triangular;
  • square;
  • hexagon;
  • L-shaped.

The block can be completely transparent or painted in any color. Most often it is covered with safety film.

It is categorically unacceptable to remove such a film before completion. Otherwise, the glass blocks during installation will be damaged. As for the texture of the blocks, it can be represented by the following options - smooth, matte, embossed surface and a specially cut pattern.

Glass "bricks" are often equipped with decorative inserts:

  • backlight elements;
  • shells;
  • specially selected relief drawings;
  • flowers;
  • pebbles of various sizes.

Triplex

This material is also called laminated glass. It is almost impossible to find a stronger transparent base for partitions. They are made of many layers of glass, the link in this case is either a liquid with a laminating effect, or a film of increased strength. Whatever option the engineers choose, the triplex does not shatter into fragments even with a strong blow.

The technology of triplex formation from 6-7 layers has been worked out. However, in the bathroom, partitions of 2-3 layers are usually used. A thicker “pie” is able to withstand shots from handguns - and its cost is therefore high. Good triplex suppresses ultraviolet rays and provides excellent sound insulation.

This material is exceptionally transparent and guarantees excellent visibility. Most importantly, the number of layers has almost no effect on its transparency.

Red hot

The name itself suggests that such glass has undergone complex high-temperature processing. Its strength and mechanical resistance are sufficient for use even in shopping malls and other public places. For a bathroom, such characteristics are all the more sufficient. If you break a similar sheet, it will collapse and shatter into fragments. But they will all be very small, and therefore there is no need to be afraid of scratches or cuts.

Thermal resistance of tempered glass is very high. Even in saunas, where the air temperature rises to 120 degrees, it works stably for years. According to aesthetic characteristics, red-hot partitions are not inferior to ordinary windows. However, it is almost impossible to process such material after hardening. Therefore, you will have to immediately form an order with all the necessary parameters and conditions.

Organic

It is quite possible to make a partition for the bathroom and plexiglass. This material is also called acrylic glass. The thickness of the created layer is 0.5-25 mm. Plexiglas can be either transparent or colored in any color. It is made by casting blocks or by extrusion; From acrylic glass it is easy to form structures of various geometric shapes.

There are a number of other varieties of materials suitable for glass partitions. They are obtained by improving one of the above materials. So, widespread tinted products. Toning is performed by several methods:

  • by gluing a film;
  • by adding at the stage of cooking metal oxides;
  • by coating the surface with titanium compounds.

Also found:

  • frosted glass using various methods (sandblasting, etching, film coating);
  • smart glass (capable of changing transparency);
  • refractory partitions.

Forms

Linear

Such partitions are used together with familiar rectangular-shaped bathrooms. They are installed permanently. Some options are divided into several sections. They are held by metal profiles.

Accessories are most often made of aluminum with anodized coating.

Trapezoid

This form allows you to successfully implement the most original design ideas. It is compatible with dimensional bowls located in volumetric bathtubs. The trapezoidal partition is usually complemented by a swing or pendulum door. The entire structure, as well as linear, is fixed stationary. The fittings are also completely identical.

Corner

Barriers of this shape are commonly used in corner bathtubs with showers and hydromassage devices. Corner partition is perfect for a small bathroom. A similar solution looks original and modern. The angle can be made in the form of the letter “G” or “P”. Sometimes there are also radial glass structures, although their manufacture is already more complicated and more expensive.

Semicircular

The semicircular partition allows you to radically transform the surrounding space. At the same time, the total area of the room visually increases. Semicircular frames will have to be made to individual sizes. Sometimes this form is realized with the help of glass blocks. There is no particular difference between such options.

Dimensions

Dimensions and masses of partitions in the bathroom are determined individually. With a glass thickness of 1 cm, the flaps usually have a width of 50-125 cm. The height can reach 3 m. Weight 1 square. m of product varies from 26 to 35 kg. If you use glass with a thickness of 1.2 cm, the width is about the same, and the height can reach 4 m; weight varies from 35 to 50 kg.

Standard sizes are as follows:

  • 90x90 cm;
  • 110x60 cm;
  • 120x90 cm;
  • 140x90 cm;
  • 80x185 cm;
  • 60x200 cm.

Design options

Quite often, people acquire glass partitions with a picture printed by photo printing. The essence is very simple: a special substance is applied, which polymerizes under the action of an ultraviolet ray. Photo printing can create an image of almost any format and color. Matte (or rather matted) options, which are obtained by sandblasting, are also popular. Most often, Oracal stencils are used in the processing process.

Sandblasting matte drawings look spectacular and fully reveal design ideas. In addition, the care of such images is quite simple. But in some cases they use an alternative solution - painting with paints.For work, stained or acrylic dyes are used.

This technique is very complex, and the finished product cannot be cheap by definition; but this is fully justified by the aesthetic merits of the design.

No matter how important the images applied to the partitions, You can not ignore the design properties of accessories. Sometimes it destroys the whole idea of designers. But you can use it to emphasize the general concept. This is achieved by varying shapes and colors. Accessories with anodizing look very attractive.

Most often, the color scheme reproduces various metals:

  • chromium;
  • gold;
  • bronze.

Selection tips

In the vast majority of cases, partitions for the bathroom are bought to order. This is the only way to take into account the nuances of the room, and the personal preferences of customers. Be sure to have to study reviews on the company that will be entrusted with this order. The protective film on a good glass partition should not be damaged. Even the smallest air bubbles are unacceptable.

Be sure to check how firmly fixed the main metal elements. Do not take partitions where they are at least slightly rusted or damaged. The surface of a quality glass screen is always perfectly flat. Unacceptable any chips, cracks and opacities.

And of course, before transferring money for a custom-made product, it should be measured so that all parameters agree.
