Faucets are a necessary type of plumbing, which can be found in any home. They are located in the bathrooms and in the kitchen. Such appliances may have various types of spout. Today we will talk about the types, sizes and rules for choosing spouts for the bathroom faucet.

Features

Spouts can be of various types. There are separate models intended only for installation on kitchen sinks or only for installation in the bathroom (as a rule, they have a long gander, which is mounted on a faucet). Spouts can have different shapes and mechanisms (swivel or non-swivel type). In the manufacture of such plumbing devices only those materials that are not susceptible to corrosion are used (brass, "stainless steel"), otherwise they would quickly fail.

The main difference between the spout for the kitchen and the bathroom models is the presence of a shower hose and a watering can in the latter. In addition, the latter option, as a rule, has a flexible eyeliner. Usually it is a flexible eyeliner with a shower head that is often attached to the wall. This option is universal. In this case, you do not need to buy separate faucets for the sink and the bathroom. The height of most spouts in the bathroom is lower in comparison with kitchen samples.

Species overview

Currently, in the plumbing specialized stores you can see a wide variety of different spouts. There are several main classifications of such plumbing.

By mobility

In this category, this plumbing is divided into two types: stationary and rotary models. All samples that are too small in length and are motionless are classified as short spouts. The rotary type makes it easy to direct the water flow in the right direction. Such devices are considered a universal option, which can be suitable for both the bathroom and the kitchen.

By location relative to the housing

All spouts with faucet-mounted boxes mounted on the sink are located slightly above the handle for switching hot and cold water. These cartridge devices and samples, which are intended for installation on a wall covering, are usually located under a water switch.

By the presence of an aerator

This classification of plumbing includes models with an aerator (nozzle, which allows you to evenly feed water flows). Products without aerators are quite rare. The aerator can be made in such a way as to supply water with a constant flow. And also there are models in which this element can supply water with adjustment of area, pressure or shape.

By sectional shape

Depending on the shape of the section, plumbing spouts can be divided into oval or round devices. These types are the most common. But you can also find narrow squared devices that provide cascading water supply. Rectangular models are most often used for installation in a bathroom, decorated in the style of avant-garde or high-tech. Spouts may also vary in cross-sectional area.

Many models have a large area, which allows you to quickly pass a large amount of water and fill the bathroom faster.

According to the method of production

This classification includes several solutions.

  • Tubular. The first option is considered the most budgetary and therefore the most popular among consumers. Tubular models of plumbing are made by bending metal pipes. At their end, which will be attached to the crane, small grooves are made. Special plastic rings with two parts in the form of rubber bands are inserted into them. These parts are designed to support the union nut.
  • Soldered spouts differ in a wide variety of forms. Their price will be much higher compared to the previous version. Such samples for cranes also have a special ring with rubber bands, but at the same time it is superimposed on the nipple, which is inserted into the body with a nut.
  • Cast. The most expensive option are cast models. They are cast in monolith. At their ends, threads are made for the aerator and nipple. Such products are made from high quality brass, so they have a significant mass. In the manufacture of them, they are coated with a special application (most often chromium).

Dimensions

The sizes of spouts for cranes can vary significantly. The height of the casing (the distance from the base of the casing to the hole where the water flows from) can be equal to 15 cm (low), 15–20 cm (medium). Medium models work well with flat basins of shallow depth in the bathroom.

Models with a spout height of more than 25 centimeters are considered high. Such plumbing is considered the most convenient for the bathroom. If necessary, it allows you to draw a large amount of water into large containers. But these samples require rather large washbasins, otherwise drops of water will be sprayed over the entire area.

The length of the spouts can also be very different. The longest models are 50 centimeters long. There are also samples of 40 and 45 cm. If your sink is too wide, then it is better to select the longest models. If a powerful jet of water constantly gets on the walls of the sink, a coating may form over time, therefore water should immediately flow into the drain valve.

For narrow washbasins, shorter devices should be selected.

Materials

Currently, in specialized stores with plumbing, you can see a large number of different spouts made from different materials. The most common are models from several foundations.

  • Brass. This material is most often used to create faucets and spouts for them. It is a copper alloy with a small addition of zinc. And also sometimes it contains a small amount of lead, manganese or iron. All the constituent elements of this alloy provide high corrosion resistance of the material. In addition, products made of brass have a fairly reliable thread, which provides a reliable connection of structural components.
  • Steel. For the production of spouts, such material is used in an alloy with chromium or other similar constituent components. Only in this case, the product will have sufficient anti-corrosion properties. Most often, stainless steel is used to create plumbing in a modern style.
  • Ceramics. This basis for the manufacture of spouts and mixers is a thermally hardened clay. Although more often ceramics are used for the production of valves, levers and watering cans for plumbing. Ceramic products have good resistance to the harmful effects of moisture, but this material is breakable. Handled with such elements, they can easily crack.
  • Bronze. This base is a durable alloy of copper and tin. It is used to create unusual antique mixers. Bronze has a higher cost when compared with other materials, but at the same time it has the most beautiful and interesting appearance. Products made of bronze are often additionally coated with yet another finishing application. Nickel or chrome can be used for this.
  • Plastic. As a rule, the spouts themselves are not completely made of plastic. This material can be used to produce individual structural elements. It is the most budget option.

Which is better to choose?

When choosing a suitable spout model for the mixer, pay attention to the material from which it is made.

  • The most popular and common samples made from metal alloys. As a rule, all of them are additionally coated with protective coatings that prevent the formation of corrosion on products.
  • Instruments made from ceramics are less popular among buyers, as they are distinguished by their fragility. But with careful handling and care, they are quite durable and durable. And also ceramic sanitary ware has a beautiful appearance.

When choosing, you need to look at the length of the spout. It must match the size of the washbasin.. For larger and wider sinks, it is worth choosing long models. For small and narrow shells, short varieties should be selected. If you want to use separate devices for the bathroom and for the washbasin, then you should give preference to images with a fixed gander, since this design will prevent leakage due to abrasion of the gasket in the area where the connection of the tap body and the tube is located.

When choosing such plumbing, it is recommended that you first unscrew the aerator and look at the wall thickness of the selected product. It is better to compare several models at once. The thicker the design, the more durable and reliable the plumbing will be.

Before purchasing, you must check the quality of the topcoat. Most often, manufacturers offer brass designs. chrome plated. In a high-quality design, the external part does not exfoliate even after a dozen years of continuous operation. Besides, quality products are not rusty. Consider the cost of the spout. The most budgetary option will be tubular brass models.

More expensive are cast and soldered products.

Consider also the type of design of the spout. The most convenient are rotary varieties. If necessary, they can be rotated in different directions, such views are suitable if the washbasin is located next to the bathtub and the water will need to be constantly redirected. Designs of a static type are considered less convenient to use compared to the previous version. They do not give the opportunity to change the position of the mixer. But at the same time, this variety is more durable in operation, since it does not have a rotary mechanism that can quickly fail.
