When looking for work, it is important to take into account many nuances. In addition, which applicant has education, work experience and professional skills, the employer wants to know what personal qualities he possesses. How does it relate to work, the tasks that are set before it, how it finds (or does not find) contact with other people - colleagues and clients, what goals in the career I would like to achieve.

Usually people do not understand very well what to write a resume in this section. Should it be detailed, or can a short list list a number of definitions? However, the summary should indicate what a person wants to tell a potential employer when applying for a job about himself, and how it is composed affects the opinion that will be formed about the candidate, including the section on personal qualities.

Types of qualities

Although the section on personal qualities contains additional information about the applicant, and the main one that interests the employer is in the sections on work experience, education and business skills, this does not mean that you need to fill it out randomly. Personal qualities are those character traits that a person has developed in himself not as a specialist, professional, but as a person, and, given the fact that he will work in a team, It is very important that he be both a full-fledged professional unit and part of the team.

In the section “Personal qualities”, the applicant can describe himself in such a way that, ceteris paribus - work experience and education, the employer chose him. To do this, you need to think carefully, which of the character traits are the most advantageous and are suitable precisely for the implementation of the desired work. It is them that need to be mentioned. For example, if a person has unshakable optimism, and it is thanks to him that he has achieved a lot in his career, let this be in the summary. At least it will not look like a cliche, but as a real quality of a person.

In addition, it is important that the qualities of the candidate are close to the employer, that is, he would choose it precisely on the basis of those personal characteristics and habits that are indicated in the resume. If a candidate can convince a potential leader through written speech that he has precisely those qualities and habits that will help him to efficiently perform his work, then he has a real chance to get the place he claims to be.

If the employer indicates the desired business and personal qualities of the employee, it is worth including them in the resume. However, you do not need to completely copy them; it is better to rephrase partially so that there is no complete duplication.

The wording must be made by the candidate himself, so that it reflects him as an employee. Personality must be traced in everything, starting with a resume. The maximum list of qualities for a resume is 5. You need to write only about the features that you actually have. No need to mention what is not. Deception is very easily detected by both experienced HR specialists and managers (employers). If you are emotional, do not write that you are restrained and immune to stressful or unusual situations. If you don’t know how to work in multitasking mode, it’s better to write “I’m completely immersed in the task”, than deceive about what is missing.

The resume should not be framed and compiled in such a way as if it was written “on the knee” in five minutes. It is better to spend a little time and get a document that will 100% reflect the identity of the applicant, his knowledge and hobbies. You should not expect to create one universal resume, which is suitable for any job you like. For example, even a person with a legal education may need two different resumes - one for vacancies for the positions of “lawyer” or “legal adviser”, and the other for “leading legal adviser” or “head of legal department”. In the first case, personal qualities should reflect the ability to fulfill the orders of the boss quickly and correctly, in the second - be able to organize the work of subordinates, setting clear and logical tasks.

You need to be prepared for what during the interview, a question will be raised regarding the personal qualities indicated in the resume and how they helped or are helping in professional life.

It is advisable that a couple of examples from the candidate were ready, and he could easily talk about them.

How to characterize the girls?

Statistics show that, as a percentage of the total number of job vacancies, women have more jobs than men, but the average wage for women is lower. It means that if a woman applies for a job with high wages, it will be more difficult for her to find her than a man. And if young unmarried and childless girls can still get the desired position, then it is very difficult for women with children, especially preschool or primary school age, to convince the employer that they will be able to perform their duties as high as a man would.

This has true grounds, since, indeed, it is mothers who most often go on sick leave with children or are asked for morning performances, other events in preschool or school institutions. Wherein women are often much more efficient if multitasking is required, that is, at the same time answering calls, working with papers and with people, preparing simultaneously several documents that are different in content and direction, therefore they are more valued at such posts.

In this regard, if the applicant has children, and the nature of the work involves the ability to partially do it after the working day is over, you can indicate in the resume that there is an opportunity to delay. Of course, this should be done only when the applicant knows for sure that she will cope with the need to work overtime outside working hours in constant mode.

It should take into account the scope of the planned activity and indicate exactly those qualities that are suitable for its successful implementation.

For a woman who wants to take the position of a HR specialist, such character traits as attention to detail, excellent memory, accuracy, patience are important. The clerk should be scrupulous, executive, diligent, be able to work with a lot of papers and information, and for the designer the key will be completely different personality traits - creativity, innovative thinking, the ability to work quickly and comply with deadlines, stress resistance.

Strong qualities for women are traditionally considered:

  • patience;
  • diligence, accuracy;
  • love of life, good nature;
  • responsibility.

The weaknesses in women are:

  • short temper, excess of emotions;
  • touchiness;
  • conflict, quarrelsomeness;
  • immunity to criticism.

What to indicate to the man?

A resume is a visiting card of a candidate, therefore sufficient attention should be paid to its preparation. Both brevity and information content are important. It is advisable to keep a maximum of 2 sheets of A4, this is enough to give an exhaustive description of the employee.

Traditionally, the strengths of men are:

  • activity, energy;
  • responsibility, decency;
  • purposefulness;
  • non-standard thinking or analytical mindset (depending on the position).

Weak male parties are:

  • short temper;
  • optionality;
  • arrogance and arrogance;
  • selfishness, careerism;
  • excessive ambitiousness.

If you have “weak” traits, rephrase them in such a way as to turn them into virtues.

Then careerism will become the desire to perfectly perform the tasks at all costs, and arrogance - restraint and resistance to the manifestation of other people's emotions.

What to write about yourself in the column "Additional Information"?

This is the last section of the resume, which is usually filled out on a residual basis. Most employers make up the idea of the candidate until they read it to the “Additional Information”, so the job of the applicant is not to spoil the impression. There is no need to write anything unnecessarily “creative”, although there are no specific rules to fill out this section. First of all, the marital status and the presence of children should be indicated. It needs to be done briefly, literally a couple of words: Married. Two, three, seven children.

As for information on knowledge of a foreign language (or languages), it should be indicated as detailed and truthful as possible. If you read Polish with a dictionary, you do not need to write that you are fluent in it at a conversational level. The employer can arrange a check directly at the interview, and it will turn out to be an uncomfortable situation. If you write about how well you own a PC, you should indicate which specific programs you used. It is better not to use the phrases “confident user” or “at the advanced user level”. For example, the wording “I work in the 1C program: personnel, I can compile a timesheet, work schedules” is suitable. If you are ready for business trips, indicate this. If not, it’s best not to.

The presence of a driver’s license and open categories is appropriate to indicate only when the nature of the work may require this. For example, for traveling nature of work or need to move quickly during the working day. As for hobbies and hobbies, it makes sense to indicate only those that are related to the work that the applicant is applying for. For example, reading as a hobby for a person who wants to become a seller or a senior in a bookstore. Or knitting for a consultant at a yarn store. The same applies to awards - if they are related to the profession, they must be mentioned. For example, participation in the contest “Lawyer of the Year” according to Consultant + or even a prize in it if you are applying for the position of legal adviser. As for the victory in the amateur local league “What?” Where? When? ”, This information is best shared with friends and family. In the resume, she does not belong.

This section of the resume should be completed in such a way as to summarize the information about yourself contained in it.

What is not worth mentioning?

It all depends on what position the applicant is applying for. If this is the post of leader or top manager, you need to list the appropriate qualities - balance, the ability to make decisions and be responsible for them, the ability to organize and manage a group of people, etc. There is no need to mention creativity or love for children and animals. If the work involves focus and perseverance, peace of mind and the ability to process a large amount of information will be your advantage. But sociability and multitasking is best left for other posts. And vice versa - where non-standard thinking, creativity and attention to detail are required, it is better not to mention diligence and respect for subordination.

"Easily trained" - Another word often found in profiles and resumes. However, it is better not to use it if a person cannot immediately memorize new terms, work in new computer programs for himself, use new techniques, etc.

"Stress Resistant" - also a "fashionable" word that should not be used unnecessarily. Resistance to stress in different positions means different things. For example, a call center operator should be prepared for negativity from subscribers, and a policeman should be ready for corpses, people affected by crimes, criminals and the like. therefore stress resistance must be specified in relation to the position claimed by the applicant.

Qualities like attractive appearance and athletic form, it is appropriate to mention only when it is directly indicated in the requirements for work - a dancer, fashion model, instructor of a fitness club, administrator or hostess of a restaurant, night club. In other cases, the employer only needs to have a personal photo attached to the resume to form an idea of the external data of the applicant.

Stamp words should not be used: responsibility, diligence, learning ability, punctuality. Such a resume will fall into the pile of no different “candidates” and is unlikely to attract the attention of the employer. A look should linger on at least one of the formulations. Instead of the "sociability", which recently appears in every first resume, you can write "I find an approach to any person" or "I can negotiate with everyone." This does not mean, of course, that you need to paint all your qualities in a similar way, turning the resume into an ode to your advantages, but ultimate brevity and facelessness are also useless.

If the employer's request does not contain a special requirement to indicate weak character traits, do not do this. In an extreme case, you can indicate a little work experience or an inability to pretend.
