Round sofas: types and uses in the interior

To get an original and at the same time cozy interior, a round sofa is indispensable. Due to the smoothness of its lines, it looks extravagant, but at the same time very elegant. However, if you decide to buy such a sofa, you need to choose it correctly.

Furniture in the shape of a circle is one of the most (if not the most) demanding of the size of the room and the situation in it. Such a sofa will not look in a small room, it needs a lot of space, even if it is very compact in itself. It should also be remembered that such furniture is always in the spotlight, so the rest of the environment should be “around” it, as if adjusting to it.

Round sofas have the following characteristics:

• a semicircular seat, depending on the size, is suitable for one, two or more people;
• in disassembled form it is a circle, again, depending on the size - one and a half or two-bedroom;
• in most cases, equipped with an internal drawer-niche for bedding and pillows;
• may have conventional armrests either in the form of rollers, or not at all;
• the average size of the sofa is 2x2.40 m.

There are three types of round sofas: monolithic, modular and transformer (folding). Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Modular is more convenient in terms of ergonomics: modules can be disconnected if necessary and placed at your request. It can turn into a round bed with a back, and into a sofa, installed round.

Monolithic structures are less overall, but much more stable, and it is more convenient to sleep on them. However, you can put such furniture only in a large or very large room, because it requires a lot of free space to look really impressive. Due to its futuristic shape, such a sofa instantly attracts the eye and gives the room chic and extravagance.

A folding sofa bed with a round shape is an excellent outlet for those who have a living room and a bedroom in one room. Such furniture will be a good solution for a studio apartment decorated in high-tech or loft styles.

Depending on the type of mechanism, the convertible sofa can be roll-out, reclining and half-built.

• In the withdrawable mechanism the base is equipped with wheels and is rolled out from under the seat. This is the easiest type of mechanism to transform, which does not require special strength from its owner.
• Half mechanisms used in modular furniture. The principle of operation is as follows: two semicircles are connected by means of fixtures or simply sliding into a round bed.
• For folding mechanism the presence of a backrest, which when folding the sofa is folded down, and a sliding seat are characteristic. Thus, a comfortable sleeping place is obtained, which is much more convenient than a modular one.

Most often, for the manufacture of round sofas, metal steel frames are used, on which lamels of wood are fixed. Sometimes a laminated furniture plate or solid wood is used to create the frame.

In the seat of the sofa, either spring blocks or artificial latex packing are most often located. Sometimes - a combination of both, sometimes with the addition of exotic fillers, such as coconut bark.

Springs are more convenient when it comes to repeating body lines. However, they must be of high quality and durable, which means that they are made of expensive material. Check, expensive springs in your couch or not does not work. The only thing that can be advised in this case is to make a choice in favor of furniture manufacturers with a good reputation. High quality fillers are used in their products, due to which the sofa does not sag or deform.

Synthetic batting of different density and thickness is another rather high-quality filler. Often a sofa bed has a built-in orthopedic mattress, very comfortable for sleeping.

It is best to choose soft models with a combined filler. This, firstly, increases the service life of the product, and secondly, it is more functional and practical, and therefore cheaper. Polyurethane foam is stuffed in the back, and in a berth - batting.

Having decided on the mechanism and design, you can proceed to the appearance of your sofa. This is no less important, because how long the product will remain attractive depends on the quality of the upholstery.

Round sofas are more often found in the luxury segment of furniture, which means they are upholstered in very high quality textiles or leather - natural or artificial, but always high-quality. Modern artificial skin is not dermatin, which occurs in the thoughts of every person whose childhood fell on the Soviet and post-Soviet years.This is the so-called eco-leather made from artificial polymers, often seemingly completely indistinguishable from natural material.

As for high-quality textiles, these are fabrics with complex weaving (both natural and synthetic) - jacquard, tapestry. They can be plain or printed.

Leather upholstery easily deformed and torn from exposure to sharp objects, poorly stretched. Therefore, if you have a cat or dog, you should think several times before buying a sofa upholstered in leather.

Tapestry upholstery may have different colors, but always - embossed texture. It is convenient to clean, which is important. Jacquard upholstery always has a pattern, and quite large. It is very durable, little susceptible to damage from mechanical objects. The surface of the velor is very soft, comfortable, however, poor-quality fabric can strongly accumulate static electricity and attract threads, wool, hair and dust, which will cause it to be constantly cleaned.

The size of the round sofa is very important. Even for a small copy, you need a room of at least 10 square meters. m., if possible not cluttered. If we talk about large models, ranging in size from 3x3 m, it should be assessed whether it will turn out not only to place it in your room, but also how much space will remain there after placement. Ideally, the sofa should have access from all sides if it does not have a back or has a modular design. If it is monolithic and moved to one of the walls, then the approach should be from three sides, excluding the back.

Since the round shape for a berth is original in itself, the interior does not always need the bright color of the model. Although designer furniture is often made in unusual colors - red, green, bright blue, purple. Furniture in black looks very stylish, especially in contrast with light walls, and not necessarily white - it can be beige, milky or bright, but light shades: mint, pistachio, lavender, heavenly.

Regarding the style, It should be in harmony with the rest of the room, creating a single composition.

Having decided to purchase a round sofa, with a high probability covers and a cover for it you will have to make to order. It will be difficult to buy ready-made products, as the choice, frankly, is small. Basically, typical models of covers are sewn on traditional, standard sofas - rectangular, modular or monolithic.

The main rule of a round sofa is that it should not stand in cramped conditions. In addition to a large area, the room should have a high ceiling and a wide doorway, especially if you purchase a monolithic model. Ideally, the sofa is placed in the center of the room, and the interior is formed around it. There should not be other large furniture in the room, especially if the area is “disappointing”. The abundance of small objects will create an impression of clutter, so this should also be avoided.

Another rule is the need to exclude other non-standard pieces of furniture from the interior with a round sofa, especially if you are not a professional designer.

Be prepared for what just to take and pick up the rest of the furniture in the set for a sofa of a non-standard shape will not work. Suitable options will cost you a round sum, since the installation of such a sofa will require the replacement of all other furniture in the room.
