The use of synthetic fibers in the manufacture of fabrics is widespread, and the most common material used in weaving is polyester.

Material properties

Polyester is part of many fabrics and gives them a lot of advantages. The advantages of synthetic material include low cost, resistance to deformation during washing and color fastness. In addition, polyester products are not prone to abrasion, do not fade and do not sit, they are well washed off from dirt and dry out quite quickly.

The fabric is lightweight, uninteresting for moths and has a low creasing rate.

The disadvantages of the material include poor ventilation and low hygroscopicity, due to the rough structure of the fibers of synthetic fabrics. Polyester is actively used for sewing bedding, curtains, bedspreads, windbreakers, dresses, blouses and outerwear.

Despite the low creasing of the material, it is still necessary to iron things from polyester. Synthetic fabrics are generally very demanding on temperature conditions, polyester is no exception. This causes certain difficulties when ironing and makes you more closely approach the choice of temperature. However, in some cases, the ironing procedure can be avoided altogether. We are talking about proper washing and subsequent drying of products, the competent implementation of which will not take on the iron.

To wash a polyester product in accordance with all the rules, it is necessary not to use water with a temperature above 40 degreesDo not add bleach and soak only with light products.

Machine wash should be done in a delicate mode, and it is recommended to wring things out at low speeds.

Instead of powder, it is preferable to use liquid products. This will eliminate the likelihood of an ugly coating that may turn yellow when ironed. When machine washing large items, such as jackets, coats or down jackets, it is recommended to place them in the drum one by one. Otherwise, the products will fill the entire working volume of the machine, do not stretch and are strongly rumpled.

All outer clothing should be turned on the other side and placed in protective bags. If the jacket has severe contamination of the sleeves and gates, it is recommended to stain the spots with a brush before placing them in the drum.

And also keep in mind that polyester products are highly electrified. Therefore, during rinsing, it is recommended to add a small amount of antistatic agent to the water.

After the clothes are washed, they are removed from the machine, blotted with a dry towel, shaken and hung on their shoulders. Skirts made of polyester should be dried by hanging by the belt, and jackets and coats should hang in a buttoned-up form. It is recommended to dry products away from heating appliances, periodically straightening wrinkles and creases with your hands.

If it becomes obvious that some places will not be able to crack down, then you should not wait for complete drying. In this case, it is necessary to smooth the wrinkled area with wet hands and send it under the iron.

Ironing Rules

Before you start ironing polyester products, you must familiarize yourself with the information on the label. Usually it indicates the recommended temperature ironing, which can not be neglected. Otherwise, you can easily burn matter, ruining not only the product, but also the sole of the iron. The ironing mode is indicated on the tags in the form of an iron with dots located on it.

One dot is usually drawn on a polyester clothing label.indicating that the maximum permitted temperature should not exceed 110 degrees. On the back of many factory models, there is a small trial patch designed to test the temperature of the iron.

If the flap is absent, then smoothing should be started from subtle sections of products located on the wrong side.

In general, polyester products are recommended to be ironed on the wrong side, using wet gauze or a dry paper sheet. The lack of direct contact between the sole of the iron and the synthetic material helps prevent thermal deformation of polyester products. If the thing is very wrinkled, you can slightly increase the temperature by setting the switch between one and two points. After the iron heats up and the indicator light goes out, put a damp cotton cloth on top of the rumpled area and carefully attach the iron to it.

If the crease or crease does not disappear, it is recommended to wet the product in slightly warm water and not squeezing hang on a coat hanger or clothesline. When the thing dries out a bit, you need to inspect it again for problem areas. If they still remain, you need to cover the product with wet gauze and repeat the smoothing. Then you need to hang the model on a rope or shoulders, let it hang and dry completely. Usually it takes no more than 2-3 hours, after which the thing can be put on or put away for storage in the closet.

Steaming

If the iron has a vertical steam function or there is a steam generator in the house, wrinkled polyester products can be steamed. To do this, hang the thing on its shoulders and carefully level it. If a cloak, coat, windbreaker or jacket is to be steamed, then they should be fastened with all the buttons, and then straighten the lining and pockets. Then the device will need to be set to delicate steaming mode and begin processing the product, moving from top to bottom.

First of all, the front and back parts of the product are usually steamed, after which they pass to the sleeves. Steaming should be done very carefully, holding the device at a distance of 3-5 cm from the surface of the fabric.

Using this method, you can not only smooth out the packed product, but also enliven the colors, as well as rid it of unpleasant odors and moderate pollution.

In the absence of special steamers, you can use a fairly effective folk method. Its essence boils down to the following: in a bathroom or other small and warm room, a basin or a tank with boiling water is installed, or simply pour it into the bath. Then, things are hung on the shoulders over the floating tank and left until the boiling water ceases to soar, and the products are not moistened. In the process of active vaporization, it will be necessary to straighten and smooth out problem areas by wetting your hands in warm water before doing this.

The key to success is a tightly closed door to the room and a sufficient amount of steam. If the procedure is carried out in the bathroom, then you can simply open the hot faucet, wait until boiling water starts to flow from it, and leave the water open for 15–20 minutes. Usually this time is enough to ensure that the material is completely moistened and finally straightened. Then the clothes will need to be transferred to a dry room and left there for a while to dry.

Strict adherence to the rules for handling polyester, as well as competent and regular care, will allow you to permanently preserve the original appearance of your favorite thing and significantly extend its life.
