Each of us probably stained clothes in fuel oil. Adults usually “put” hard-to-remove spots on public transport, children - on the playground on a swing. Often, locksmiths get dirty with fuel when repairing equipment, machinery or special equipment. “Finding” oil products is not difficult. One inaccurate movement - and fuel oil pollution "flaunts" on clothes.

Carrying a dirty thing in a dry cleaner is a reliable, but very costly way to restore its original appearance. A more economical method is to get rid of the pollution yourself at home. However, to remove such a stain will have to make a lot of effort.

Means for removing fuel oil pollution

Fuel oil contains a large number of different resins and asphaltenes. In the course of normal washing, such stains will not leave the clothes.

Fuel oil pollution can be removed with substances capable of dissolving resins and oil compounds. These include ammonia, acetone, baking soda and other compounds.

Before using this or that substance, you need to know how it will affect a certain type of tissue.

For example, cotton or wool clothing will not “stand” contact with alkali (gasoline, acetone). Fuel oil can not be removed from viscose or velor with acid compounds (ammonia, turpentine).

Before stain removal, the degree of contamination should be determined. Heavily soiled clothes will have to be abundantly treated with a resin-dissolving compound, and then washed. One or two small spots may be partially washed off.

The following products can be used to clean fuel oil impurities:

  • Car shampoocontaining toluene or naphtha. Such a substance is sold in specialized stores. To get rid of the stain, soak a cotton pad in shampoo and apply the product to contamination.

After the manipulations, wait 5-10 minutes. This time is enough for a chemical reaction to occur and the stain to “move away”. At the end of the exposure time, wash the item manually or on a typewriter.

  • Compositions for washing dishes (e.g. AOS or Fairy). These gentle substances are perfect for “delicate” clothing. To clean, rub the product into the stain and leave it to work on the product for half an hour. After washing, rinse the item thoroughly. The last stage - washing in the machine at the usual mode using a stain remover.
  • Caustic soda. When working with the substance, gloves should be used to protect the skin of the hands from the toxic substance. Please note that caustic soda cannot be used when removing stains from clothes made of cotton and wool. To get rid of contamination, dilute the powder in water in a ratio of 1: 2. Apply the resulting solution to the stain for 1 hour, then wash.

The above methods for removing fuel oil are effective if the stain is "planted" recently. The older the contamination, the more difficult it is to remove it from the tissue.

Tools at hand

With improvised means, it is possible to remove only fresh weak or medium black spots. To the most effective substances that dissolve traces of petroleum products, include the following:

  • Tar soap. Suitable for washing clothes from soft and delicate fabrics. To remove contamination, wet and wash the soiled area with soap. Wash the item 2-3 times, rinse thoroughly.
  • Acetone. In any girl’s makeup bag there is a bottle with acetone-based nail polish remover. With its help, it will be possible to remove small fuel oil impurities from tight clothing. To remove stains, moisten a cotton pad with acetone and wipe the stained area. Leave the composition on things for about an hour. After a while, rinse the substance with warm water and stretch the product.
  • Turpentine and ammonia. To wipe off fuel oil, you will need a solution of these two components. To prepare it, take ammonia and turpentine in a ratio of 1: 1. Prepare the resulting composition with a cotton swab, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Soda and turpentine. Use this method to quickly remove old stubborn stains. To give the clothes a pristine appearance, apply hot turpentine to the dirt and leave for half an hour. After that, treat the area with soda (it is allowed to use a soft brush). Rinse clothes and wash them in the machine, setting the maximum temperature limit.

Also, iron and paper materials with a high absorption rate can return things to cleanliness. This method will give a positive result if there are no serious contaminants on the clothes, and small specks of fuel oil are present.

To remove oil droplets, place a stain and a napkin on top of the stain and iron the product with a hot iron.

Change blotter if necessary. During the ironing process, the resins will remain on the paper, and a greasy stain will form on the clothes, which can easily be removed with a detergent.

Cleaning various fabrics at home

Oil stains from thin and synthetic materials are not recommended to be wiped with combustible and toxic agents. There are great risks of damage to clothing. To restore the presentability of things from lightweight fabrics, you need to resort to gentle cleaning methods.

For example, you can use aromatic oils. Preference is best given to a eucalyptus, pine or fir extract. Such compounds have a pleasant aroma and a mild effect on the material, in contrast to aggressive combustibles.

To remove stains from a soft or synthetic fabric, place a cotton pad soaked in oil under the dirt, rub the soiled area with another disc until the dirt is completely removed. After the manipulations done, wipe off the remaining grease stain with oxygen powder or stain remover.

An effective way to remove oil from things is the use of butter. This product is a natural solvent that destroys the resinous structure of fuel oil. To remove dirt, rub the stain with frozen oil. Then fill the contamination with any detergent and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. Wash the item with hot water.

If the stain is “planted” on dense tissue, you can use aggressive compounds. They are characterized by higher efficiency, compared with gentle means.

However, they are strictly forbidden to apply on linen, synthetic and any other delicate fabrics.

If you stained jeans in fuel oil, do not be discouraged. Such a fabric is characterized by increased density, resistance to abrasion and aggressive agents.

To remove fuel oil pollution from jeans, you can use petrol. To do this, soak a cotton pad in a combustible substance and gently rub the stain. After 1-2 minutes of interaction with gasoline, fuel oil will begin to dissolve. After that, thoroughly rinse the thing and stretch it in the machine at the extreme temperature.

There are situations when outer clothing is soiled in fuel oil. How to remove a stain from a jacket? For these purposes, you can use toluene, tar or laundry soap. To remove fuel oil, soak a cotton pad with soap or toluene and wipe the soiled area.

It is recommended to remove fuel oil from a Bologna jacket or from white outerwear using bleach (selected according to the type of fabric). After the stains disappear, the thing needs to be washed in the machine using the "delicate" mode.

What to do with overalls?

Most often, heavy clothing is subject to heavy fuel oil pollution. It is sewn from durable fabrics that can withstand aggressive alkaline and acid substances. If the overalls are very dirty, do the following manipulations:

  • pour gasoline into the container and soak the “overalls” in it for a couple of hours;
  • rinse clothes and wash them by hand using powder;
  • Dry the product in a well-ventilated place.

Wash heavily soiled work clothes in the washing machine is not recommended.

Old single spots are well removed. Sanoksom. The composition is designed to combat rust. However, due to the content of oxalic acid, the substance copes with stains from engine oil and fuel oil.

To remove impurities, you need to moisten a cotton pad in the product and wipe the dirty areas with it. If necessary, it is allowed to soak the soiled product in “Sanoks” for 4-5 hours, after which it must be washed manually or on a machine.

How to remove stain on shoes?

Fuel oil is a greasy and viscous composition that is difficult to wash from shoes made of suede, dermatin, leather or fabric. However, the stain is not a reason to buy new sneakers, shoes or boots. Before you send your shoes to the "junk", try to remove fuel oil pollution. To do this, you can apply the following tools:

  • diesel fuel or gasoline;
  • car shampoo;
  • ethanol;
  • White Spirit;
  • toluene.

To wipe off any contamination, soak a cotton pad in any of the suggested substances and wipe the stain. Repeat the process several times if necessary.

Useful Tips

Before proceeding with the removal of fuel oil stains, you need to familiarize yourself with the following rules:

  • When working with toxic and concentrated formulations, protective rubber gloves must be worn. It is recommended to carry out work outdoors or in a ventilated area away from open sources of fire. Use a respirator if necessary.
  • Before applying the composition to clothing, it is advisable to check the effect of the substance on the fabric. To do this, you need to process the tool with an inconspicuous area from the inside.
  • To eliminate the risks of increasing the area of contamination, rub it from the edges to the middle.
  • Proceed with removing the spot on the same day that it is “planted”.
  • To prevent contamination from the back, place several times folded fabric inside the garment.
  • Products stained with fuel oil must first be washed manually and only then sent to the drum of the washing machine. It is not recommended to lay previously unprocessed things. The smell of oil products will remain in the machine, which will be “nourished” by other clothes during subsequent washing.
  • Delicate and thin materials are not allowed to be rubbed or wrinkled for a long time, and also to use brushes for cleaning.

To get rid of fuel oil on clothes is a difficult, but real thing. If you stained an expensive thing, you should not risk it and make independent attempts to return the product to perfection. It is best to contact your nearest dry cleaning service.
