Doing repairs in the apartment, painting a picture or dyeing hair, you may encounter such a problem as splashing paint on clothes. In the end, this can happen even from accidental contact with a painted wall in the porch or a bench on the street. In this case, the urgent question arises - how to remove paint from clothing?

Paint got on clothes: what to do?

If paint gets on any thing, first of all, do not panic. The general rule is that there is no pollution that cannot be cleaned.

Another question is how complicated the cleaning procedure will be. And it depends on the composition of the paint, on the material of the fabric. Of course, it is easier to remove fresh paint than one that has already dried. But, nevertheless, in order not to spoil the thing, you can not wipe such pollution with everything that comes to hand. To do this, there are special tools, both store and home, that will help eliminate one or another paint from a certain type of fabric.

Different tissue reaction

Each thing will respond to the stain of the dye in its own way, and to different types of tissues should be a special approach in cleansing:

  • Into things from cotton the liquid is well absorbed, and the fabric dries quickly. If you need to clean a stain from a cotton T-shirt, then you need to prepare the pulp, which will include white clay and gasoline, the contaminated area is lubricated with this composition and left for two to three hours. Then the shirt is washed with the addition of a stain remover or bleach (for bright things).
  • Synthetics It will be burnt under aggressive solvents, so it is better to use ammonia with salt. First, the contaminated area is treated with ammonia, then the thing is soaked in a basin in which salt water is already located.
  • Leather product (for example, a jacket) can be easily cleaned; to remove a paint stain, just take a cloth moistened with sunflower oil. The result should be fixed with laundry soap. After the procedure, in order to eliminate greasy oil marks, it is recommended to wipe the cloth with a damp and then dry cloth.
  • With delicate fabric (silk, kapron) to remove the dye is quite difficult, aggressive methods of exposure (caustic solutions) can ruin your favorite thing. Here the method with warm ammonia is suitable. It is necessary to moisten the cotton wool in it and gently rub the affected area. After this, the thing must be washed and rinsed in water with the addition of salt.
  • Woollike cotton, it quickly absorbs liquids, the paint from this material is rubbed off with crushed laundry soap with heated alcohol. This prepared composition must be applied to the affected area, for example, sweaters, and gently wipe it with a dry cloth.
  • If a stain of paint appeared on things from polyester you can eliminate it without ruining your clothes. Polyester in its appearance resembles cotton fabric, but it is more durable due to the synthetic component, and easily tolerates mechanical influences. It is advisable in this case to use washing powder with butter. The thing is first soaked, the resulting mixture is applied to the contaminated area, then the clothes are washed in a machine or manually.
  • To peel off the paint jeans and not to damage the structure of the tissue, you should use gasoline or turpentine. If this method does not give results, then you need to purchase a special stain remover with an oxygen content.

It is better to act as quickly as possible until the stain has dried, otherwise there is a risk of not getting rid of the old stain or spoiling the thing with an improperly selected solution.

How to wipe dyes at home?

To remove paint from clothing or shoes, you need to pay attention not only to the structure of the material, but also to the color. Stains from a white shirt will be displayed differently than dirt on black pants. In addition, the type of paint is important. In order not to spoil your favorite sweater or properly remove the dye from expensive trousers, it is worth considering - what kind of paint is to be wiped off.

Watercolor

Typically, a stain from this paint appears on children's things, because little artists use this dye for painting. Wash such a thing is not difficult, just wash the clothes in the car or manually with the addition of washing powder.

Before washing, you can put on the stain (if it is large) a special tool, for example, "Vanish", which has established itself as an effective stain remover. Honey paints for drawing are removed in the same way.

Oil

The most insidious kind of dyes, because it is extremely difficult to clean them from clothes. But there are several ways from which you can choose the appropriate one.

But it is worth remembering that before you start cleaning, you need to wipe off the paint with a knife or brush and apply grease (sunflower oil or petroleum jelly) to the stain.

This is necessary for softening, only then the stain is removed directly:

  • You can clean the item with a mixture of washing powder and ordinary butter. With a cotton pad, the prepared composition is applied to the contaminated area of the tissue, left for fifteen minutes, then washed off.
  • Effectively removes oil dye gasoline, but it must be clean (from the tank of the car does not fit, but from the lighter will fit). You need to thoroughly rub the affected area with a cotton swab dipped in gasoline.
  • Another proven method is dishwashing liquid. It is added to warm water, and then the resulting solution is applied to the spots. Immediately you do not need to rub anything, in this form the thing is left for two to three hours, so that the liquid is well absorbed. After the expiration of time, the stain is cleaned with a brush and washed with water.
  • You can use acetone, which is found in many nail polish removers. It is applied to the paint (a couple of drops are enough) and removes it in fifteen minutes. But this method is not suitable for acetate fabric (for example, artificial silk), and traces can form on the colored thing from acetone.
  • If a stain of oil paint gets on clothes made of white cotton, then a suitable product, for the preparation of which you will need crushed soap and soda in the amount of one spoon. This mixture is boiled in a liter of water, into which a contaminated thing is dipped for literally a few seconds. After that, the clothes are washed in the usual way.

Gouache

Gouache, like watercolor paint, is made on a water basis, so you can clean clothes from gouache with a wash with the addition of Vanish. There are other methods:

  • Sometimes ordinary household soap can help, soak a thing in warm water, rub the area of pollution with soap, then rinse your clothes for a while.
  • You can use a dishwashing detergent. To do this, you need to foam the liquid, apply it to the stains, wait about half an hour, so that the product is well absorbed, then wash the thing in the car or manually.
  • If the stain is not old, then it will be cleaned with toothpaste, which is applied to the place of contamination. The result will be visible in a few minutes. Usually this method is used when nothing else is at hand.
  • The paint is also cleaned with soda, which is in every home. You need to wet the areas of contamination, then sprinkle soda on them, wait a while, rinse off. This method is only suitable for things of light shades.
  • Ammonia and glycerin can also eliminate gouache stains. They are used both individually and together (by mixing).
  • The presence of mustard powder in the house will be a plus for those whose clothing has been affected by gouache paint. It is necessary to add it to the water until gruel formation and apply the resulting product to the stain. It is recommended to wait a while, while soaking the mustard, otherwise it will dry out.

Water emulsion

This paint is made on a water basis, so if the stain is fresh, then it can be removed using plain water with laundry soap or powder with the addition of Vanish. If the stain does not go away when washing in cold water, you can try washing your clothes in hot water.

Another way is to clean the enamel with alcohol. You need to wet a piece of tissue with them and rub the affected area, the paint should come off.

Acrylic

To remove a stain of acrylic paint from clothing, you can hold the item under a stream of cold water (the pressure should be strong), and then wash it with ordinary powder or laundry soap. Other methods:

  • If the previous method did not give any results, then it is advisable to prepare a special solution that will help to cope with the problem. Ammonia is mixed with vinegar and salt in a ratio of 2: 2: 1. The solution is applied to the contaminated area, rubbed with a normal toothbrush, then the thing is washed in a machine or manually.
  • It will be much more difficult to wipe away a dried stain, for this you will need heavy artillery in the form of a special solvent and bleach (for light fabric), and a stain remover (for color).

After the item has been cleaned of traces of paint, you can not immediately put it on.

It is necessary to immerse the clothes in warm water, separately from other things, rinse thoroughly, then dry in the fresh air. This procedure is necessary in order to get rid of the pungent odors of the cleaner. You can’t use perfumes in this situation, they will not eliminate the smell of acetone or gasoline, but only briefly mask it. To keep the item fresh and clean, it is better to stick to the rinse and drying scheme on the balcony for two days.

Useful Tips

So that the spots of paint are effectively removed, and your favorite thing does not deteriorate, it is important to know basic rules that will help to avoid aggravation of the situation:

  • Before you start cleaning things, you need to determine its material and type of paint. Because, for example, oil paint and watercolor imply different cleaning methods.
  • It is much more difficult to remove dried old paint than fresh, so it is not recommended to wait until the dye is firmly absorbed into the fabric, and proceed to cleaning as soon as possible after contamination.
  • You can not start the removal of dye on the front side of the clothing, it must be turned inside out, otherwise there is a high risk of discoloring a bright thing. So that the cleanser does not corrode the front of the clothes through the wrong side, you need to put some thing under it to “absorb”. It can be a towel or an ordinary paper towel.
  • The previous rule applies to clothes with several layers, for example, skirts with lining. In this case, a layer of dry cloth or polyethylene film should be laid between the layers in this case. Thus, the solution will not spread, but will be absorbed into the embedded material.
  • First you need to process the spots from the edges, moving to the middle.
  • If you are unsure of choosing the right remedy for a particular fabric, you should not immediately generously water a thing with it. It is better to choose a small tissue area and drip a little funds on it to see if a negative reaction of the material occurs. If not, then you can safely proceed to the processing.
  • On thick and coarse fabric, the stain is much easier to clean than on thin matter. That is, getting rid of the paint on jeans will be easier than removing it from a silk blouse.
  • There is a rule that applies to the area of pollution. The smaller it is, the easier it will be to clean it.
  • You need to wipe the stain with a special tool using a cotton pad or light pieces of cloth (the dark one can begin to shed from the solution), so it’s better to prepare everything in advance. During cleaning, periodically change the cotton pads.
  • Before starting to remove stains, you need to lay out the product on that surface that is not painted, otherwise there is a risk of damaging the top layer, for example, a table or parquet.
  • Oil-based paints are the most difficult to remove, so in this case you will have to make every effort.
  • In addition to choosing a surface, it is important to take care of choosing a place. When removing stains with gasoline or acetone, it is worth making sure that the window in the room is open (you can also go out into the fresh air, for example, onto the balcony). These substances are flammable, so you should protect your apartment. In this case, fresh air entering through an open window will eliminate the risk of poisoning (due to harmful fumes of some solvents). Hands in this case must be worn with rubber gloves.
  • Parents often remove stains from children's clothes, because children like to paint with gouache or watercolor, and rarely do so without getting dirty. But there is a significant plus. Usually, all these paints for painting dissolve in water, so they are easy to clean.
  • Girls sometimes have to deal with the problem of getting hair dye on their clothes. Several ways may help here. One of them is undiluted vinegar, which needs to be cleaned up with dirt, and then wash the item (you can add vinegar in the amount of one glass when machine washable). If the clothes are not colored, then hydrogen peroxide (preheated) with ammonia will come to the rescue. It all depends on the quality of the hair dye, sometimes you can wipe the stain with an ordinary laundry soap, and sometimes a few drops of glycerin or even gasoline are required.
  • If you are unsure of your abilities, you can always turn to a professional dry cleaning service for help, where specialists will help you remove complex stains of paint from your favorite clothes.

Thus, using these tips and tricks, you can easily remove paint stains from any type of material. But it will be better not to get into situations after which you have to clean clothes from dye. You need to be careful when drawing and repairing, and also not to lean against the painted walls and not sit on the painted benches in the park.
