Often, an unsuccessful layout, lack of free space and non-standard solutions in the interior do not make it possible to fully realize all the design ideas in the arrangement of the kitchen. The situation is largely complicated by the fact that a large part of the small space is occupied by a gas column, most often they were installed in Khrushchev, but nowadays more and more homeowners are using water heaters.

The advantage of geysers in the apartment is undeniable - it is an inexpensive and constructive solution that allows heating water. It is no secret that in the summertime in the homes of many of our compatriots there are massive outages of water, and even with the onset of cold weather accidents often happen - the gas water heater then becomes a real lifesaver.

The modern market for household appliances offers a wide selection of models that differ in power, size, functionality and cost, therefore everyone can choose a product that will best meet the technical conditions of the apartment and the monetary capabilities of the buyer.

The disadvantages of such solutions include complexity with the design of the room - the protruding element does not allow to fully realize the ideas of completing the kitchen. Even before the start of repair work, you need to decide on the location of household appliances and furniture. The most budget option is to leave it as it is, but to optimize the space and the necessary changes in the interior, you can consider transferring communications. However, this is a complex and unsafe business.

Firstly, such movements must necessarily be coordinated with the relevant authorities. Secondly, the possibility of installing columns is seriously limited, so the water heater should be located at a distance of at least 3 cm to any surface, wooden elements should be placed even further. Installation of the column above the stove and other sources of fire is not allowed, the counters should be placed at a distance of at least 15 cm.

There are several column placement projects.

In this case, the equipment is hidden behind the facades, it is necessary to take into account several important points:

• the distance between the gas column and the inside of the module should be 3 or more centimeters in accordance with fire safety rules;
• in the cabinet, the presence of ventilation holes should certainly be foreseen;
• it is desirable to insulate the cabinet from the inside - it is best to use a special heat-reflecting film for this;
• when accepting a furniture block, be sure to check for gas holes - pipes and corrugations.

In this case, the device is placed between the cabinets, here also the requirement of a 3-cm distance to the furniture surfaces must be observed, the module case must be treated with heat-insulating compounds.

If the column and the cabinets match in color, then the whole composition will look harmonious and the difference will not be evident. If you wish, you can use a spectacular move and make the column contrasty - in this case, it must certainly be combined with other shades in the interior of the kitchen.

Some owners of premises prefer to make the column out of the kitchen. Let us make a reservation right away - this is a laborious and financially expensive option, they usually resort to it when the column does not fit into the concept of the kitchen space at all. However, keep in mind that it is far from possible to place such a heater everywhere. The volume of the room must be at least 7.5 cubic meters. m with a wall height of 2.25 m.

Most often, they try to move the column to the bathroom, but if it does not differ in special dimensions, then there will be no sense from such a solution - along with the conveniences in the kitchen you will get discomfort in the bathroom, not to mention the fact that such a solution is unsafe.

The easiest way to achieve compliance with the general style of the interior is to replace the old gas column with a fashionable designer model. At any outlet you can find many of the most interesting options for water heaters in different colors - black, white, metallic and other plain colors.

There are even quite original columns - with all kinds of decors, for example, prints of birds and animals stylized as Gzhel or Palekh painting. Of course, this option will cost a pretty penny, but the painted column will not need to be hidden - you can only be proud of it.

If you use a hidden column placement method, then an excellent design solution would be to use a door made of tinted or frosted glass, a similar "house" will look very original. Particularly spectacular tinting looks if the entire kitchen is designed in black colors.

When the location of the column is angular, it can always be separated by a small niche, which visually separates the water heater from the general kitchen interior. Designers recommend using decorating tricks to help make the column more harmonious in the overall interior.

One of the most original ways to “breed” a column with the rest of the kitchen decor is to paste over its surface with the same wallpaper as the walls of the entire room, or, if you use tiles and panels for decoration, decorate with a vinyl film that is similar in texture and color. It is possible to paint the heater with non-combustible enamel; heat-resistant paints for metal are usually used.

If you want to have a designer column, then you can do it yourself with your own decor and choose one of the options.

• Picture. You can decorate the gas column with some interesting ornaments or a nice picture, in the absence of artistic talent you can always use ready-made stencils.
• Stickers. Themed and funny self-adhesive pictures look elegant and dignified in any interior. If they are correctly selected, then they not only do not destroy the design concept, but also make it more expressive.
• Magnetics. You can hang a magnet on the water heater, it’s a good idea to place images from different countries, so you get a very stylish and effective rack.
• Reminders. Any motivational pictures or notes with reminders (for example, “do not forget to water the flowers”, “breakfast on the stove”, “call grandmother”) will probably come in handy on the farm.

Decors can be used absolutely any, but it is important to ensure that they are located harmoniously and do not turn the surface of the water heater into chaos.

If you can still decorate the column itself or initially choose a stylish and effective model, then all the associated communications (chimney, as well as pipes and hoses) certainly do not need to be shown to others - as a rule, they look unpresentable and can ruin even the most thoughtful interiors.

Of the budget decisions can be called painting the pipe in one tone with the wall, a more expensive, but at the same time, an aesthetic option will be masking for the cabinet - either behind the same one where the column itself is hiding, or behind a separate one.

When decorating a kitchen with a column, it is better to give preference to light colors, it is no secret that most of the water heaters are made of white painted metal - try to use this and create a background in which the water heater becomes almost invisible and literally “dissolves” in its surroundings. To do this, you just need to use milky white facades, an apron and a refrigerator.
