A neat appearance is considered the standard of beauty. In order for clothing to emphasize the image in an original way, it is necessary to be able not only to select its appropriate style, but also to give the desired shape with the help of ironing. This is especially true for long-sleeved shirts, because it is not easy to bring them to perfect condition and you need to have certain skills.

Ironing devices

Today, there are many technical innovations that allow you to quickly and efficiently iron men's or children's long-sleeved shirts. The simplest and most inexpensive device is an iron, it has a steaming function and the choice of the desired temperature regime. In addition, for ironing, it is also advisable to prepare a special ironing board and spray gun, which is useful for moisturizing too dry fabrics. If the product is planned to be steamed, it is important to ensure that the water is filtered and clean, in particular, this applies to light-colored shirts.

In the case when there is no ironing board, then it is possible to replace it with a table.

Before starting to iron clothes, it should be covered with a dense cloth. The console for ironing sleeves will also help facilitate the workflow. For certain types of shirts, you will also need a white cotton towel. It will serve as a convenient substrate and will avoid the appearance of spots from water. In addition to traditional irons, the following devices can also be used.

  • Steamer. Its principle of operation is based on the creation of powerful steam streams that not only give things an impeccable look, perfectly cope with all folds and bumps, but also eliminate odors from the fabric, disinfecting it. The main advantage of this technique is that it provides vertical ironing without a table or board. As for the minuses, the steamer cannot completely replace the iron, as it is not suitable for certain types of fabrics.
  • Steam generator. Externally and in terms of functionality, it has much in common with an iron, but differs from it in that it produces a powerful and uniform stream of steam. Thanks to this quality, even very badly wrinkled shirts can be smoothed out with the help of a steam generator.
  • Steamboat. This is an inflatable device that has the shape of a human torso. It quickly smoothes and dries products. However, such equipment is professional, so it is rarely seen in household appliances.

Iron Modes

Each type of fabric is characterized by its temperature mode of ironing. Therefore, this feature is important to consider before you start ironing shirts and carefully study the instructions indicated on the label. If the composition from which the fabric is made is unknown, then the ironing process should be performed with a minimum temperature. As a rule, irons are sold with a temperature mode from 1 to 3. This simplifies the choice of a particular temperature for a particular type of fabric.

Shirts are often made of synthetics, you need to be careful with this material, otherwise they can be burned at high temperature. To prevent this, it is recommended to start work with a minimum temperature. If the wrinkled places are badly smoothed out, the temperature should be slightly increased and as soon as the iron stops gliding smoothly, the mode is immediately reduced. In addition, for each type of fabric there is a set ironing mode, it looks as follows.

  • Polyester. This is an artificial material, so it cannot be ironed at temperatures above 110.
  • Reaper. Shirts from such fabrics look without steam at a mode of up to 110.

At higher temperatures, their material can completely level out and lose their attractive appearance.

  • Viscose. Able to withstand ironing up to 120, it is also subject to steam treatment. At the same time, in the process of smoothing it is impossible to wet the fabric with water from the spray gun, otherwise spots will remain.
  • Natural material (cotton and linen). Ironing it requires a temperature of at least 150. Crumpled shirts made of cotton are best steamed in a mode from 170 to 180. As for flax, this is the coarsest material, so it requires a lot of steam. Folds will be able to straighten only at temperatures above 210. For ironing cotton and linen, you also need to perform strong pressure, harvested cotton is leveled without moistening.
  • Chiffon. Ironed at 60-80, light pressure without steaming.
  • Wool. This material is straightened only with a strong pair, therefore, it uses a temperature regime of 120. It is advisable to iron wool products through a damp cloth (gauze).
  • Knitwear Steaming is allowed at a low temperature of 60 to 80. The iron is pressed to a minimum and ironing is carried out from the inside.
  • Silk however, it is advisable to iron the shirt in dry mode, as water stains may remain on it. The mode for it is recommended to choose the minimum. Since silk products are well smoothed, steam processing is not necessary for them. At the same time, it is advisable to carry out the work process from the inside out, otherwise the shirt will become winy.

Given all the above features of ironing fabrics, you can quickly and beautifully tidy up any shirt. If this is not an easy task to be done for the first time, then you need to do a little training, smoothing out individual sections of the product. Then you can proceed to full ironing.

Preparatory stage

Despite the fact that working with an iron seems complicated for many, it is easy to handle it if you have patience and prepare yourself correctly. A long-sleeved shirt is considered the most difficult ironing product, which is characterized by certain rules. This item should be washed and dried on the coat hanger before ironing. It is recommended to iron the shirt until it dries completely. If it is “dry”, then it should be sprayed with water using a spray gun, evenly distributing moisture over the entire surface of the fabric.

Dry shirts can also be placed in a damp bag for a while, except for this are only viscose products, water stains may remain on them.

Then all the buttons are unfastened, the workplace is prepared and the temperature regime is selected in accordance with the type of fabric. Additionally, it is also necessary to prepare a cotton towel and wet gauze. If you plan to steam your shirt, you should make sure that the iron has clean water.

Process description

Articles of clothing, in particular, this applies to long-sleeved shirts, should have a flawless and smooth appearance without arrows. Therefore, this workflow must be treated responsibly and done step by step. For a woman, ironing is considered a common thing and she copes with it quickly; it’s difficult for a man to cope with this task, especially if he does it for the first time. In order for the representatives of the stronger sex to properly iron the shirt, in which short or long sleeves, a series of actions should be performed sequentially.

  • Ironing begins with the smallest detail - the collar. Since it is always in sight, it needs to be well smoothed. First you need to iron the collar from the inside, to avoid the formation of folds in the corners will help the smooth movement of the iron from the edges to the center. After the collar is smoothed out from the inside, the men's shirt is turned over and the procedure is repeated. Do not iron the collar along the fold line, as it may take on an irregular shape and its appearance will deteriorate.
  • Then you need to tidy the cuffs. They are smoothed in a similar way to the collar, but previously all buttons are unfastened and the fabric is carefully leveled on the board, otherwise arrows may appear. If the sleeves of the shirt have double cuffs, then they must be deployed and then ironed.
  • The next step will be ironing the front and back of the shirt. It is best to start by leveling the area where the buttons are sewn. A children's or men's shirt is evenly placed on the board and ironed. In this case, special attention should be paid to the place near the collar. It is always noticeable from under a tie. After that, you can proceed to ironing the shirt area, where there are no sewn buttons.
  • Further, the shoulders of the product are ironed. To simplify this process, a shirt is recommended to be worn on a narrow part of the board. Thanks to this, the right and left shoulder can be ironed quickly and easily without folds.

At the same time, you need to try to get to difficult areas with the iron nose.

  • After that, it remains to iron the most problematic area - the sleeve. It is worth noting immediately that the long sleeves on the “no arrows” shirt are a sign of bad taste. An exception can only be special requirements for a dress code in which smooth sleeves are provided. The sleeves are carefully checked and steamed along the entire length, then the arrows themselves are formed, having previously determined the place of the bend, which must necessarily coincide with the horizontal seam on the shoulder. Ironing is done on the front side, if necessary, wet gauze is used.

At the same time, you can use the “wrong-face”, “sleeve-shoe” method to iron the sleeves, or just use a towel - it is most often used when you need to iron a white shirt. In the first case, sleeves first look from the inside, then from the front. Choosing the second method, you have to prepare in advance a special device - “block” - and carry out the work process from the inside out. As for the third method, it has many similarities with the second one, only a towel wound in a tube is used instead of the block.

To make the shirt sleeves ideal, it is necessary to iron only clean and dried products, choosing the temperature regime corresponding to the fabric features on the iron.

  • Everything ends with steaming the neck of the shirt and ironing the back, which is the most voluminous detail. In order to smoothly iron the back, the product should be placed on the board where the long edge is. In this case, the iron will move from top to bottom. First, smooth the areas near the shoulders, then go to the edge. If there is a crumpled part in the middle, then it is ironed at the very end, since it is small.

In the event that the shirt cut is solid and there are no buttons in the style, then the back of the shirt is smoothed first, then its front area and sleeves. In models with buttons, special attention should be paid to the areas around the fasteners. It is impossible to iron over buttons, otherwise “wrinkled” traces will remain. This also applies to products with cufflinks. Pockets align from bottom to top (in the opposite direction).

As for ironing shirts with short sleeves, they are tidied up according to the same principle as with long ones. The only relief in ironing is that there is no need to iron the sleeves and cuffs.

Short sleeves are easily smoothed out using a rolling pin wrapped in a terry towel or a special roller.

Before you hang the finished shirt on your shoulders, you should put it on, so you can additionally make sure that all the places are smoothed out and the work is done efficiently. In the presence of folds and irregularities, the procedure will have to be repeated. It should be noted that if all the points of ironing are carried out slowly and correctly, then such problems can be avoided and a beautiful shirt can be obtained immediately after ironing.

Useful Tips

For many, ironing a long-sleeved shirt can seem like a whole science, because in order to iron sleeves, cuffs, a collar and steam all seams without creases, it is important to have certain skills and take into account the rules. Beginning housewives and bachelors will be helped by simple expert advice.

  • After normal washing, any products must be dried on their shoulders, in this way you can protect clothes from the formation of excess folds and bumps.
  • You can’t immediately put on an ironed shirt, otherwise it will be remembered quickly.
  • Damp cloth should be steamed and ironed. Therefore, after a machine, hand wash or digestion, the thing is not completely dried. As soon as all the moisture from the glass product, you can start ironing.
  • The arrows on the sleeves are made depending on personal preference and whether it is planned to wear a shirt in a special setting or office. Usually sports models and military uniforms do not include arrows. If this is an office shirt, then it must necessarily contain neat and even arrows.
  • If the product is overdried, then it must be sprinkled with water using a spray bottle, or put the shirt on for 30 minutes in a wet cellophane bag. In addition, the thing can be tightly wrapped in a moistened towel or gauze. For white fabrics it is necessary to use a towel of light shades, otherwise staining is possible.
  • Prints and decorative stickers on products are ironed from the wrong side, this avoids damage to the decoration. So that the bright paint does not "reappear" on the protective cover of the ironing board, it is covered with sheets of paper.
  • Do not iron dirty things, as the iron will slip poorly over the surface of the fabric and an unpleasant odor may form.
  • If the house does not have an ironing device or unexpectedly turned off the electrical energy, and you need to go to work and look perfect, then ironing without an iron is possible. In extreme situations, the product is well smoothed with wet hands. To do this, they lay it out on the board, paying attention to especially dented areas, moisten their hands with clean water and shake the cloth with quick movements of their hands. Hands should be washed with soap, as ink, greasy stains, and dust can pass onto the fabric.

After this, the wet line should be hung on the shoulders and dried with a hairdryer.

  • Without an ironing device, shirts are perfectly ironed in a steam bath. To do this, the product, previously raised to the shoulders, is placed in the bathroom and the faucet with hot water is opened. The doors to the room are closed and the shirt begins to smooth out under the influence of steam flows. Such a procedure usually takes no more than 20 minutes. In this case, you should pay attention to the fact that drops of water do not fall on the thing, since the appearance of new places with bumps and spots is not ruled out.
  • You can also smooth out a man’s shirt on yourself: first you need to sprinkle it with plenty of water, then put it on and dry it. The heat of the body will quickly dry the tissue and it will take the right shape. If this option is not suitable, then a special leveling solution will help straighten the dented places. The washing conditioner, table vinegar and water are poured into the spray bottle in the same ratio, everything is thoroughly shaken and sprayed onto the shirt. Drying is performed outdoors, but this option is not suitable for synthetic shirts, stains may appear on them.
  • If you want to iron several shirts at the same time, while some of them are dry, while others are still wet, then they need to be stacked, making layers of dry and wet products. After they lie down for 1 hour, you can begin to work.
    • White shirts are ironed on either side, and dark shirts - only on the wrong side; otherwise, shiny areas from the iron will remain on them.
    • In the event that creases or creases appear on already ironed areas, they must be moistened with water and steamed thoroughly.
    • When using the steaming mode, it is important to ensure that the water in the iron is clean.
    • To simplify the ironing process will help pre-soak the product in a starch solution (1 liter of water requires 1 tablespoon of starch). This will not only give things snow-white, will allow them to even out quickly, but also increase the resistance of the fabric to pollution.
    • Ironing can only be started when the iron has warmed up well. In this case, before ironing, the shirt must be unscrewed and checked whether the temperature regime is suitable.
