If you follow these things correctly, they actually do not wear out, retain their positive characteristics for a long time and delight their owners with a stylish appearance. True, these products are not immune from the appearance of folds. Let's see what can be done with a leather skirt if creases have formed on it.

Features

Before you look for a way to stroke a leather skirt, you should find out what type the material from which it is made belongs. Today, such wardrobe items are made of three types of fabric:

  1. skin of natural origin;
  2. leatherette or dermatin;
  3. High quality hypoallergenic synthetic leather, safe to wear (eco leather).

To do this is simple - you just need to pay attention to its inside out. If it is an ordinary fabric, then this is artificial material, because natural has a fleecy, velvety base. Despite this difference, you can put things in order in any case, only a natural skirt will have to be ironed on the front side through cotton or a paper sheet, and an artificial product on the back side without using improvised material. If there is a lining that does not give the opportunity to iron the thing from the inside, do it on the outer surface, after laying a thin piece of woven fabric.

Eco-leather can be restored by crushing, because it is made of polyurethane and has good elasticity. In addition, it is durable and durable.

Perhaps the least recoverable is leatherette - dermatin, but its condition and appearance can be improved at home.

When is the need for ironing needed?

When to use these or those smoothing methods is an important question, because if a thing is launched and the slightest flaws are ignored, then the damaged structure of the fabric will be subject to destruction, and the skirt can simply be thrown away.

The main defects that may arise as a result of improper maintenance of clothing:

  • vertical and horizontal creases;
  • areas with elongated skin, if it is natural.

When a deformation has occurred, for example, if a product has warped, after being wet, it will most likely fail to return to its previous shape. Now about the thickness of the material: the thinner it is, the easier it is to smooth out. Which, of course, cannot be said about dermatin, thick and stiff. It also matters how timely a flaw was found on a skirt made of genuine or artificial leather.

How to smooth a natural product?

At home, a genuine leather skirt can be ironed in several ways.

  • With an iron. This method may be associated with some risk, since too high a temperature set on the device can lead to damage to things. Therefore, we adjust it to the lowest rates. A sufficiently large piece of cotton should be placed on the front surface so that in no case should the iron sole touch the outside of the product. Separately, you can apply steaming if the iron is equipped with this function. This procedure cannot be carried out simultaneously with ironing.

The folds, as well as the elongated sections, are smoothed out by placing an iron on them for a few seconds. After the fold has disappeared, you need to wait until the product cools down and only after that hang it on the hanger using special loops. If steam is used, the skin is slightly stretched during processing.

  • Natural steam processing. A genuine leather product can crack down if it is hung in a bathtub heated by a stream of hot water. This creates an optimally moist environment, and high temperature does not affect the fabric. Created conditions help return things to its original state. The main thing is that water does not fall on the skirt, and the folds on it are not too deep.
  • Plain water will help restore a thing from creases. This will require a spray bottle and warm water. The skirt is placed on a hanger and both damaged and intact areas are sprayed. After that, hang the product away from the battery and other heating devices and leave to dry completely. As a rule, if the defects are not critical, then after a while the wrinkles will straighten out, and the skin will again be flexible and soft.
  • A simple and effective way is cargo. Not every housewife will risk using an iron on expensive natural skin. Then a less aggressive method is suitable - to straighten the skirt with the help of cargo. A good option is a few books or a press.

Required:

  • neatly lay out clothes on cotton material;
  • on top, smoothing the formed fold, place a homemade load;
  • leave for 12 hours.

It is important that the surface is absolutely flat, and the thing is properly laid out.

  • Smoothing oils. To restore the attractive appearance of leather clothes, as well as enhance its water-repellent properties, it makes sense to use petroleum jelly, glycerin, castor oil, and other vegetable oils of natural origin. It is allowed to apply them with a tampon, brush or hand, most importantly, grease all damage. The meaning of the procedure is that the skin softens, moisturizes and regenerates, since the oily substance penetrates into the smallest pores of the material. Finally, carefully remove excess oil and wipe the item with a soft, dry cloth.
  • An excellent solution for smoothing are professional tools that serve not only to restore deformation and damage to the material, but also protect such things from pollution, salt, nourish them from the inside and form a thin film that repels water. Thus, a leather jacket, cloak or skirt will always have a presentable appearance. Such preparations include Salamander, DryCare impregnation, Grangers Clothing Repel.

Synthetic Care

For a skirt and other imitation leather garments, the iron method is also suitable if they have a label with permission for this type of care. As a fabric that protects against additional damage, gauze is used in several layers or a piece of an old clean sheet.

Dermatin softens well when soaked and exposed to steam, so you can use the "steam room" or a spray with water.

The main thing is to prevent excess water, the fabric should only be thoroughly moistened on the lining side.

Consider other methods of exposure in order to level the surface.

  • Glycerin is a common pharmaceutical preparation, they are soaked in soft tissue or rags, places with creases pass, and finally wipe the composition of the entire surface of the skirt. When hanging, the item must dry completely. Sometimes, due to the active action of this substance, the color of artificial skin can change, therefore it is better to check this in advance on a piece of material located in an inconspicuous place.
  • A good way to get rid of wrinkles is to use a solution prepared from equal proportions of water, conditioner and vinegar. It should be poured into a spray bottle and applied to the problem area. After this, the skirt should be evenly stretched in all directions from the crease for 3-4 minutes.
    • A product made of synthetic leather can also be washed in a car by setting the temperature to no more than +30 degrees and manual mode. Then the skirt is hung up and dried in natural conditions.
    • For minor damage, use a hair dryer, keeping it 30 cm from the material and turning on warm air. In addition, shoe creams will help to straighten the folds, matching the faux leather tone that tends to be completely absorbed.

    To restore the product from eco-leather, it is important to use an iron from the wrong side of the material. The safe temperature for this procedure is 35-40 degrees, but ironing is carried out using a double lining of chintz. Immediately after this, you need to unscrew the skirt on the front side, smooth out the damaged areas with your hands, and only then leave the thing to cool. The easiest method is moisturizing with warm water or steam. If the fabric is not aligned enough, the procedure is repeated.

    In order for leather items to maintain their original appearance, they must be properly stored. First of all, they need to be hung up, this applies to both natural and artificial material. In addition, it is important to eliminate minor defects in time, clean products from contaminants, moisturize and soften them using special means. For genuine leather, air is also important, so seasonal packaging should not be airtight.
