It's no secret that the condition of the toilet, its cleanliness and pleasant smell speak of the cleanliness of the owners. In addition, the restroom is regularly visited by all the inhabitants of the apartment or house. Therefore, it is very important to maintain cleanliness and hygiene there.

A freshener for the toilet is not a mandatory component of this room, but its presence significantly increases the comfortable stay there. No matter how well the ventilation system works, it is completely difficult to remove unpleasant odors.

The modern market is rich in items such as toilet fresheners. Many of them are advertised, the consumer will find out about some on the feedback sites or on the recommendations of friends. However, few people know that an effective and inexpensive air freshener is easy to do with your own hands at home.

Types of fresheners on sale

The perfumery industry continues to evolve and offers a variety of flavors even for toilet fresheners. Therefore, any consumer can well choose the option that is suitable for smell, shape and cost.

All air fresheners can be conditionally divided according to the principle of action and the form of release.

According to the principle of action, all funds can be allocated in three groups.

Deodorants

Deodorizing agents have the ability to bind molecules of an unpleasant odor, neutralizing it.

Flavors

These products have a strong odor that does not destroy unpleasant odors, but simply smells much more intense.

Combined action

Combine a deodorizing effect and have a pronounced aroma.

According to the form of release, several types of fresheners are distinguished.

Aerosol

The spray is very popular due to its affordable price and a wide selection of flavors. Used throughout the apartment, including the bathroom. The aerosol is pumped into the container under pressure, it is easily sprayed by pressing a special button.

Of the minuses of such a tool should be called:

  • the need to regularly spray the spray;
  • short duration;
  • not all sprays effectively cope with unpleasant odors;
  • the composition of the aerosol is not suitable for everyone, especially for allergy sufferers;
  • It is contraindicated to spray the product in a room with an air purifier, since the released ozone, when combined with spray molecules, turns into an unpleasant composition that affects the respiratory tract in a negative way.

Auto dispenser

It also sprays the product into the air, however liquid, gel or oil is poured directly into the dispenser. There are options where a cartridge or a special mini spray can be inserted. The essence of the device (which is also called a dispenser) is that it periodically sprays a certain amount of aromatic substances itself. It can be programmed for the required period.

Of the minuses, it is worth noting the rather high cost of the dispenser and the low versatility of interchangeable units.

If you suddenly cannot buy a cartridge from a familiar manufacturer, a product from another company will not work.

Gel air fresheners

They are containers filled with transparent balls of gel.

Electronic tools

Air fresheners spray gel or water soluble aromatic oils. Devices practically do not create noise, operate on an area of up to 15 m² continuously for 4-8 hours.

Sensory

These are fresheners that work on a specific irritant (turning on the light, opening the door, any movement). Their cost is high, therefore they are used more often in commercial premises (hotels, airports).

Aromatic Blocks

They work constantly unlike aerosols and auto-sprays. These can be containers with a gel or a solid base, which gradually evaporate, removing unpleasant odors. They can be attached to a wall or any hard surface.

Solid

Fresheners are plates that can be mounted on the walls or rim of the toilet. They work with every contact with water. To the variety of such fresheners include special tablets or cubes that need to be thrown into the toilet bowl. There they dissolve, giving a pleasant shade to water and cleaning the toilet bowl with every flush.

Other means

They even came up with USB fresheners that work from laptop or PC connectors. It is clear that this option is not suitable for the toilet, but anything is possible.

A variety of flushing compounds stand out: gel-like, hard in the form of balls, self-adhesive discs and clean stickers. Usually they can be hung under the rim of the toilet bowl, and with every rinsing, the substances give a plentiful foam and aroma of freshness.

Blocks are disposable and reusable, equipped with a convenient handle that is securely attached to the toilet. If such a block accidentally fails (which is not uncommon in families with young researchers), it can be easily obtained, since an irregular shape prevents it from entering the pipe.

DIY toilet cleaner

You probably noticed that on all means for the toilet there are notes: "remove from children", "avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes", "do not use inside." These warnings indicate the potential dangers of such products. Of course, an adult will not begin to try or swallow such products, and for children, bright packaging and a pleasant smell always remain very attractive. Therefore, it makes sense to try to make a safe, without potent substances, do-it-yourself freshener: economically and a minimum of chemistry. The environmental friendliness of the product is not its only advantage.You can really save on household chemicals, while taking care of the environment.

From the recipes below, you can choose the one that you like:

  • essential oil freshener;
  • original ball pendant with essential oils;
  • gel freshener;
  • from toothpaste.

Essential oils are an effective remedy for bad breath. According to consumer reviews, fresheners based on natural essential oils confidently occupy a leading position. It is important to remember that these volatile substances can cause allergies, so experiment with caution.

  • For the simplest freshener, take a small container with a wide neck, inside which a cotton ball is moistened, moistened with a few drops of essential oil. You can take oil of lemon, grapefruit, orange, pine, rosemary, cedar - to your taste. Put an open jar near the battery, heating will increase the volatility of the ether components. Change fleece enough once a week.
  • You can drip the selected oil on the toilet paper sleeve - get a similar effect.
  • Add 15 drops of essential oil to the container, add half a glass of table vinegar and a half glass of water, mix. Pour the resulting mixture into a jar with a screw cap, in which several holes have been made, and put on the battery. Similarly can be done with soda.
  • For suspension, mix in a bowl 70 g of starch with 25 g of salt and 100 ml of water. Put on a slow fire and cook, stirring, until the mass thickens. Remove from heat, cool for a minute, then add 15 ml of vinegar and 5 drops of essential oil. For an additional purity effect, soap chips dissolved in water can be added. Knead the resulting composition well with your hands, form a ball and leave it to solidify at room temperature for 10 hours. From a piece of wire, make a hook on which the ball will be mounted. Bend the second end so that the suspension can be hung in the toilet, it will last for 2-3 weeks.

Do-it-yourself toilet fresheners can be made using other available means:

  • For a gel freshener, mix 1 tablespoon of gelatin with water in one dish, and 2 tablespoons of soda and salt, and food color in another. When the gelatin swells, mix it with a glass of water and a colored mixture, add 2 tablespoons of table vinegar and 20 drops of essential oil. Put the "jelly" in the refrigerator until it solidifies, and then cut it into parts that are placed in the toilet unit.
  • Another option is to heat 250 ml of water, add 15 g of gelatin and 10 ml of glycerin, mix thoroughly. Then add a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon and a few drops of essential oil to the mixture. Pour the resulting gel into a wide-necked container and leave it on the toilet.
  • Take a tube of toothpaste with a bright aroma of mint, pierce several times with a thick needle and put it in the toilet bowl. Fresh aroma is provided for a long time.

Now you know what to do for cleanliness and a pleasant aroma in the restroom. It remains to choose the most convenient option.
