Although at the present time a large number of novelties for the kitchen have appeared that allow you to cope with homework as quickly and easily as possible, many housewives still prefer to use the good old cast-iron frying pan. However, the owners of such dishes often have to think about how to clean them from soot at home, because over time, the pan becomes dirty. There are many ways to get rid of such pollution, some of them were used by our grandmothers, such methods are time-tested.

What is the best way to wash?

Housewives using kitchen utensils often think about what to do so that it remains aesthetically pleasing, clean for a long time, and also retains its properties. To do this, consider some recommendations.

Use dishwasher

Items made of cast iron must not be washed using a dishwasher. Otherwise, rust will begin to appear on the dishes.

If you could not avoid this error, you can do the following with a frying pan:

  • rinse the product under running water (it must be warm) without using detergents;
  • wipe the pan with a cloth towel;
  • apply vegetable oil to the product (a few drops are enough), take a dry rag and rub the pan. This means should not be very much, otherwise everything will stick to the surface;
  • pour salt into the pan, put it on high heat and wait until it smells;
  • remove the salt, wipe the dishes with the same cloth and evaluate the result - usually all unaesthetic traces disappear from the surface.

Hot dishes

Cast iron hot dishes must not be washed. If you constantly pour water on a hot surface, after a while it will deteriorate. From the cold, a hot pan can even burst.

It is recommended that you first wait, allow the product to cool, and then wash the dishes using warm water.

Burnt food

Sometimes, after cooking, particles of food burn to the surface of the pan. To get rid of them, do the following:

  • pour soda, salt into the bottom, pour liquid into the pan. She should close a layer of salt and soda;
  • put the dishes on a strong fire, wait thirty minutes, then pour the mixture and wash the pan (as you usually do).

Modern means

Today, consumers are available a variety of means, using which, you can get rid of old soot (as advertisers and manufacturers claim). Many of them are really quite effective.

The basis of many of these cleaning products is an acidic solution that corrodes fat deposits. The most popular are Shumanit, Chister, Mr. Muscle, Cillit Bang. Mistresses often also choose Sanita - A cream that removes grease and other impurities very well.

So, apply the detergent to the dishes, clean its outer surface using a metal washcloth. Then wash the pan using warm water, wipe it with dry material and apply oil to the surface. Products that are aggressive should be worn with rubber gloves. So you can protect your skin.

High temperatures

Shot appears due to the fact that pieces of food and fat burn to the surface of the dishes, but many get rid of it by firing. You can distinguish different methods of such cleaning. Some methods of firing are quite safe, such procedures can be carried out at home. Some need more space.

First firing method:

  • turn on the stove (you will need to use the largest burner);
  • place the dishes so that the fire completely surrounds one of its sides;
  • wait a bit (a few minutes are enough) and try to remove the carbon deposits using a knife. If unsuccessful, wait again, let the pan heat up more;
  • when you can remove the contamination, go to the other side;
  • at the end, allow the dishes to cool and rinse with detergent.

The essence of the second method is the use of a blowtorch. The impact on carbon in this case is the same (high temperature) - when heated, the fat becomes soot, which can be removed quickly and easily. However, this method is quite dangerous, precautionary measures are necessary. As a rule, this method is used to clean pans in workshops and garage rooms - such places are best suited for such work. Do not experiment in the living room, otherwise you can spoil something or even make a fire.

They burn the cast-iron pan using an ordinary bonfire. During a trip to nature, you can not only relax, but also solve some domestic issues.

The procedure is as follows:

  • if the handle of the pan is not cast iron, it will have to be removed;
  • you will need to put the object directly into the flame;
  • wait fifteen minutes, carefully remove the pan using a stick, remove the soot with a knife;
  • If necessary, repeat the procedure again. Cast iron is fire resistant.

Boiling

You can prepare a mixture that was known to our parents. Previously, there were no non-stick products, so everyone had to find effective and affordable ways to remove contaminants. If you create the necessary solution, taking into account all the rules, chronic carbon deposits will be removed easily and quickly.

This tool consists of the following components:

  • silicate glue;
  • soda ash;
  • soap.

To wash a product from cast iron from rust and carbon deposits, it is better to use the usual dark laundry soap. It allows you to achieve better results than modern flavored products.

Take a small container, rub soap there. Put there also soda ash (200 g), add one tube of silicate glue. Add a little water, mix everything thoroughly.

Then you need to choose a container in which you will boil the composition. It should not be very deep. In this case, it is necessary to choose a sufficient width so that a pan can be put in the container. There should not be much water, otherwise digestion will become less effective, there will be less active substances.

How long to boil a pan - depends on how much it is contaminated. In some cases, it does not cost one boiling, and it is possible to completely clean up burnt food and fat only with the help of a person. You will need to rub the dishes, then boil again. It is necessary to boil objects from cast iron with an open window leaf, otherwise the room will smell very bad.

Vinegar, Soda, Rock Salt

To wash cast iron dishes, you can use a mixture of soda, vinegar and salt. It will be necessary to mix all these components (proportions should be equal). Add water - a few liters. Put the cast iron in this mixture and boil for about thirty minutes.

If there is a lot of soot, it is old, then boil twice as long. As a result, you can still wash the old frying pan well inside and out.

Metal brush

Even if you use special tools to effectively deal with pollution, or boil a pan, you can’t do without mechanical stress. It is recommended to choose a good metal brush for cleaning such dishes.

Of course, a metal product can leave scratches on the surface, marks. This can be avoided if correct, use such an item as carefully as possible. You say goodbye to traces of soot, fat - and at the same time save the surface of the pan.

To wipe the pan from a thick layer of burning, you can use a special nozzle made of metal and a drill.

Thanks to such a tool, you save energy - which could have been spent using a regular brush.

Surface restoration

Regardless of whether you choose the modern or folk way of cleaning the pan, then the surface of the product will need to be restored. The procedure is as follows:

  • put the object on a strong fire, heat it;
  • apply oil to the product using a brush;
  • keep the pan in the air, then rinse it under a stream of warm water (no cleaning agents are needed) and wipe using a towel.

Regularly caring for a cast-iron frying pan, you can ensure that it will retain its original appearance and will last as long as possible. To avoid problems, you need to take into account all the useful recommendations and do not forget about safety rules.
