Housewives and cooks often choose stainless steel cookware for use in their kitchen. Such dishes have a peculiar and beautiful appearance, which requires appropriate care. This article will tell you in detail about what means and folk tips can get rid of scale and other impurities on a stainless steel kettle.

Types of pollution

Utensils used in the kitchen to prepare or heat food and products are subject to various influences. The external and internal surfaces of pots, pans or a kettle periodically tolerate heating to high temperatures, come in contact with various products and substances.

The kettle, although it is used only for boiling water, unfortunately, also periodically comes into an inappropriate form. You may encounter the following types of contamination of your stainless steel kettle:

  • Traces of scale. Mostly formed on the inner surface of dishes. If the water often boils in the dishes and leaves over the edge, then such traces can also affect external surfaces. The reason for their formation lies in the composition of water, and specifically, in the minerals and salts contained in it.

When boiling, these elements evaporate from the water, but do not evaporate with the steam, as they have too much mass for this. Therefore, on the dishes in which the water periodically boils, we can see whitish traces or plaque.

  • Stains of fat on the outer surface. Drops of oil or grease can get into the kettle from the dishes on adjacent burners. For example, if you are stirring pan-fried foods. Often we do not attach importance to the fact that other dishes on the stove can suffer from oil flying off during boiling.
  • Black or brown carbon. It is formed in those cases if you did not follow the kettle and just forgot to turn off the gas on time. Then water overflows, forming dark spots on the outer surface and bottom of the dishes. If the liquid boils off completely, then soot forms inside the dishes.

Cleaning methods

Nevertheless, you should not be scared and despair, because, as mentioned above, any utensils are subject to pollution during use and there is nothing to worry about. With the tips below in this article, you can easily return to your kettle a pristine, beautiful and tidy appearance:

  • A good and universal tool for washing teapots and other utensils, including colored ones, is laundry soap. Soap a sponge moistened with water or prepare a soap solution and wipe all surfaces of your dishes. Leave the kettle in soapy water for 10 minutes, then rinse it well with warm water.
  • You can clean the kettle from scale or carbon deposits using acidic solutions. As acidic compositions, you can use diluted lemon juice, a solution of apple cider vinegar or citric acid. Table 6% apple cider vinegar must be diluted in water in a proportion of 1 tbsp. spoon per liter of water. Fill the kettle with this solution and bring the water with vinegar to a boil. After boiling, turn off the heat and wait until the water in the kettle cools down and becomes warm. After that, you can wipe the kettle inside with a soft sponge and rinse with water.

Acids dissolve scale deposits and carbon deposits well.

  • Lemon juice or citric acid can be used in a similar way. Citric acid is dissolved in water in a ratio of 1 teaspoon of acid crystals per liter of water. Lemon juice is added to 1 liter of water in the amount of 1 tablespoon.
  • To clean the kettle from the outside of grease, scale or limescale, use soda. Just avoid rubbing the surface of stainless steel dishes with dry soda powder. This can damage the material and leave noticeable streaks on it. Soda should be diluted in a small amount of water to obtain a liquid slurry resembling semolina or liquid sour cream.

This composition must be applied to the contaminated external surface with a sponge and evenly distribute it. Leave the kettle covered with soda gruel for 15-20 minutes, then gently, without strong pressure, rub the surface with a wet sponge. Next, rinse the kettle under running water.

  • You can wash off the traces of scale inside the kettle by boiling a solution of soda in it. 1-2 tbsp. tablespoons of soda dissolved in a liter of water. Bring this solution to a boil in your kettle. After cooling, gently rub the inner walls with a sponge and wash off the traces of soda.
  • The method that relates more to people's advice is the use of highly carbonated drinks with acids, such as Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite. Filling the kettle with them and leaving it for a while, you can notice how the scum begins to move away from the walls. If this does not happen, you can bring the carbonated drink in the kettle to a boil.
  • Mistresses often pour pickle from under pickled vegetables, not even knowing that it can also be successfully used in the fight against pollution of the inner surface of dishes, including stainless steel teapots. With a brine, you need to fill the dishes, bring it to a boil, reduce the gas and boil for 5-7 minutes. Scale and small deposits inside the kettle are easily removed with a sponge.
  • You can always use special tools for cleaning dishes, which are sold in the departments of household chemicals. Examine the label of the cleaning composition to make sure that it is acceptable for cleaning your type of kettle. When cleaning dishes, follow the instructions.

Prevention

No matter how accessible and easy to perform methods for cleaning the kettle from stainless steel at home, it is better to try to reduce the impact on the dishes of polluting factors.Rarer pollution will reduce the frequency of cleaning procedures for your kettle, saving you time and effort.

Here are some guidelines to keep your kettle and other kitchen utensils clean longer:

  • Try to avoid boiling the same water several times. This significantly enhances the deposition of salts and minerals on the walls of the dishes. Try to approximately calculate the amount of boiling water you need, or drain unused boiled water, using it for other needs.
  • After each boiling and draining of water from the kettle, it is advisable to wipe the inside with a wet, clean sponge. This time-consuming and simple procedure will take less than a minute, but will help to remove the still invisible thin layer of scale on the walls.
  • To avoid boiling oil and grease or other products on the outside of the kettle, you should remove it from the stove during cooking on adjacent burners. This is a very simple way to prevent greasy drops and stains on all types of dishes.
  • If you chose chemical cleaners and detergents for cleaning dishes, you should take care of hand protection. Be sure to use rubber gloves to protect your skin from possible allergic reactions or irritations.
  • Before washing the kettle, wait for it to cool completely. Do not allow water of colder temperatures to fall on a hot surface. The temperature difference between stainless material and water can lead to micro-deformation and damage to steel. This advice is relevant for almost all types of metal and steel utensils.
