Corset on a wedding dress able to turn you into a real princess with a perfect figure. It is the lacing of the corset that will be the main point in the entire process of dressing the dress.
If the corset is laced correctly, then the appearance of the bride will be just perfect. For this process, tapes with high density and small thickness, silk laces or satin strips are used. Often, the right way to lace up a dress is shown during the purchase of an outfit. If pre-wedding efforts have led to the omission of such issues, follow our tips and the corset of your wedding dress will be laced up as it should.
Problems that may arise
An improperly laced wedding dress will slide down all the time during the celebration. But not only poor corset lacing can become a problem. The bride can face difficulties if she bought an outfit that is not her size. In order not to purchase too wide an outfit, during the purchase you need to tighten the corset as much as possible and try to put your finger under the lacing. If your finger crawls through, then the dress is great for you.
If you find that the dress is wide, already after purchase, be sure to sew the outfit. If the corset does not work out, add straps to the dress.
Types of Corsets
On the corset of a wedding dress there are:
- Hinges. A cord is threaded into them during lacing. Often, such models of corsets are equipped with a zipper.
- Holes. A lace is also threaded through them. There is no "lightning" in such corsets, but usually there is a fabric insert that allows you to add one or two sizes.
- Large loops. They are designed for lacing with a wide ribbon.
Lacing Steps
For any kind of corset, the lacing technique will be similar. The process includes the following steps.
Putting on dresses by the bride
If at the time of fitting in the salon the girl first puts on her shoes and a petticoat, then on the day of the celebration, when the hairstyle is ready, they start by putting on a dress through her legs, and then putting on a petticoat. Further, in the case of the presence of zipper on the corset, you need to fasten it. However, if the halves of the zipper converge end-to-end, you should first tighten the lacing and only then fasten the zipper.
Threading a lace or ribbon into a corset
First you need to thread the upper loops and pull the cord so that the lengths of the ends are equal. So move down and thread all the holes or loops.
Corset tightening
- While holding the ends of the cord (so you will not let them slip out of the loops) with one hand, gradually pull the lacing down with your second hand at the intersection. It is more convenient to do this manipulation together - let one girlfriend hold the ends of the cord, while the other will drag it down in turn with two hands. If it is necessary to tighten the corset alone, hold the lace by the ends conveniently with your left hand, and with two fingers (index and big) of the right hand, pull the lace at the intersection, and then drag them down with the middle finger of the right hand.
- Grasping the next intersection with two fingers, you need to tighten it, while simultaneously releasing the middle finger on the previous crossing of the cords. If a tape is used to tighten the corset, then it will not slip out, so you do not need to hold it by the ends.
- Gradually pull the tape down the hinges while straightening it.
- The bride should tighten the chest with both hands while tightening the corset so that in the end it does not look too flat. At the same time, you need to hide the excess tissue. In corsets without a zipper, you need to carefully straighten the fabric liner. When there is a zipper on the corset, thread the excess fabric under the bones to the sides so that the fastener is just in the middle of the back.
Tying a lace or ribbon
Make sure that the dress has sat on the waist tight enough. Tie the ends of the lace with a bow, and if they are very long, trim the excess with scissors. At the same time, it is worth leaving a little in reserve in case of dress lacing.
On a regular lace, the ends will not crumble and unravel, and if an unusual cord is used, its ends can be treated with transparent varnish. If the corset does not have a zipper, then you can hide the ends of the lace in folds.
Tips
- We recommend practicing lacing the wedding dress well in advance so that on the day of the celebration these manipulations are already familiar to the girlfriends.
- If the bride cannot tighten the waist tightly (for example, she is pregnant), then the top of the corset is first tightened, due to which the chest is fixed. Next, you need to tie a knot on the cord and lace up the bottom of the corset a little looser.
- If you can’t do it yourself, contact any bridal salon where they will show you how to do it right.
