How many dogs of different breeds on earth! Here and service dogs - from shepherd to rescue divers, and decorative, and hunting. This article will focus on dogs with dreadlocks, keeping and caring for them.

Main breeds

There are not so many dogs with dreadlocks, the following breeds are most known:

  • bullets;
  • bergamasco;
  • Commander
  • Spanish water;
  • havanese;
  • also some poodles whose curly hair can be woven into dreadlocks.

Dogs are a bit similar in appearance - just because of the characteristics of the coat. They have a very soft and thick undercoat and a long, wavy and coarse coat. Intertwining, it forms the “calling card” of these dogs - cords, popularly called dreadlocks. This kind of plexus of wool gives dogs the ability to perfectly endure the vagaries of the weather - both heat and cold, and also protects them from predator bites and helps mask themselves.

It is noteworthy that up to 9 months old puppies of these breeds practically do not stand out among other dogs, dreadlocks form in them from about 10 months to 2 years.

Bullets

This is a Hungarian shepherd shepherd, not tall - at the withers just above the knee of an adult (about 40-45 cm). The character is cheerful, friendly, distinguished by endurance and unpretentiousness. Smart, easy to train, quickly grabs teams. This is a loyal friend and helper, Good for children, especially small ones. The color of the coat can be black with a grayish or red tint, white with a pearl shimmer or fawn (with a black mask).

Bergamasco

The breed is slightly larger than a bullet, males grow up to 60 cm, and females grow up to 56-58 cm. Muscles are well developed, the bones are large, heavy, and the head is large. The tail is drooping, thick. The character is light, obedient. The dog is distinguished by goodwill, intelligence, excellent performance. Naturally stubborn, but this shortcoming can be corrected by education. The breed is unpretentious to food, easily gets used to almost any climatic conditions.

On the body and upper part of the paws, the dreadlocks are large, rectangular in shape. The coat is usually dyed gray, sometimes black or yellow. Spotty colors are also found, however, the standards of this breed stipulate that the main color should occupy at least 80% of the coat.

Commander

A large dog with well-developed muscles and a strong skeleton. The coat is thick, white. Males grow up to 65 cm at the withers, females - up to 60 cm. A very strong, fearless and loyal to the owners of the dog. Strangers are wary. In puppyhood it is very playful, however, like other puppies. Used as a guard dog for the home or guards herds of pets.

Conditions of detention

Almost all dogs with dreadlocks need life in nature, in the city they are closely and uncomfortable. The exception is perhaps only poodles and havanese - their small size allows dogs to live in apartments without compromising their own health. Dogs need physical activity - active games or jogging in the fresh air, and at least 4 hours a day.

Do not keep dogs on a short leash, they do not differ in increased aggressiveness, that is, they will not rush at strangers without a team, and a long restriction of their freedom will negatively affect health. As for the climatic preferences of dogs, there are no restrictions; they easily tolerate the vagaries of nature - both heat and frost, but nevertheless in the southern regions the dogs are uncomfortable - in such and such a fur coat!

Therefore, if in your area the summer temperature rises above 40 degrees, it is better to choose another pet for yourself.

How to care?

An important role in caring for a pet is taking care of his health. When purchasing puppies, do not forget to study their pedigree and parents' cards - the predisposition to many serious diseases is inherited. therefore puppies must be vaccinated before the age of one year and then 1-2 times a year to be taken to the veterinarian for preventive examinations. For any ailments - be it mild lameness, night blindness (in a bullet), urgently need to examine the dog in order to catch the disease at an early stage and cure, otherwise it will be too late.

The hair of dogs of these breeds needs only washing and sometimes cutting too long strands that interfere with orientation in space. You do not need to comb them. This procedure, necessary for dogs of other breeds, is useless and even harmful to shaggy pets. At the age of 9 months - 1 year, when the formation of dreadlocks begins, and the hair is very confused, such cosmas need to be carefully unhooked manually. The greater the age of the dog, the less the need for such a procedure. When grooming dogs with dreadlocks, they usually leave cords with a length of about 0.25 m.

Another important procedure in the care of a pet is bathing. Due to the structure of your pet’s coat, when bathing you need to use detergents (shampoos) containing lanolin. You need to clean the dog carefully by no means making circular motions - so you only knock the wool into tassels. At the end of washing, carefully rinse the cords and wring them out manually. There is no need to blow dry the dog, natural drying is the best way to maintain the shape of the dreadlocks.

Like any long-haired dog, its paws and ears are a weak spot for dogs with dreadlocks. Thick coat can hide parasitic infection or injury, so do not be lazy to once again examine the dog. For convenience, the cords on these parts of the body can be cut shorter or cut completely.

Feeding

Bullets, commander, bergamasco are unpretentious in food, however, this is not a reason to feed them poorly.Proper nutrition is an important factor affecting the health and longevity of animals. The ideal option, of course, is holistic-class feed - They are made only from natural ingredients of the highest quality. They do not have chemical additives - dyes, preservatives or flavorings. But their price is appropriate, not everyone can afford such feed.

Therefore, the option of feed seems more acceptable. premium class. They are quite high-quality, with a complete set of essential trace elements and other biologically active components. When choosing a food, review its composition - it is important that the dog receives a sufficient amount of calcium, because this element is necessary so that your pet's coat is healthy.

If you are not a fan of ready-made feed and prefer to feed your animals environmentally friendly, natural products, then remember the following:

  • you can not feed dogs fatty meat, pasta, potatoes, as well as semi-finished products of dubious origin;
  • the diet should include lean meat, cereals, milk and its products, as well as some vegetables - carrots, cabbage;
  • it is recommended that with this diet give the dog vitamin complexes;
  • more than half the portion should be meat products (or offal - liver, kidneys, etc.).

In conclusion, we can say that almost all dogs with cords are excellent watchmen and guards. And given their unpretentiousness, unusual appearance and mind - also the decoration of a country house.
