Many dog lovers dream of having a breed of exotic appearance. A great option would be the Japanese Shiba Inu. This is the smallest species of hunting dogs, bred in the Land of the Rising Sun. Shiba Inu with a black coat color looks especially impressive. A miniature pet is suitable for living in an apartment and in the private sector.

Breed history

Shiba Inu is the oldest breed of hunting dogs. The first wild dogs lived on the Japanese islands before our era. They were the ancestors of the indigenous dog breeds of the Land of the Rising Sun, including Shiba Inu. Strong and strong animals helped people hunt and drove wild animals away from their homes. According to historical information in the homeland, Shiba Inu was used for hunting small and large game. Due to its miniature nature, the animal deftly maneuvered between high thickets and drove out the game for the owner.

Today, the Shiba Inu breed is popular not only in Japan. Dog breeders from all over the world happily make beautiful pets that resemble a cunning fox.

Appearance

Modern Japanese dogs are smaller than their ancestors. The characteristic features of Shiba Inu include:

  • strong proportional muscular body;
  • lean belly;
  • long developed limbs, due to which the dog's movements are smooth and at the same time energetic;
  • a rounded head with a pointed muzzle;
  • expressive and smart look;
  • ears are triangular in shape (upright);
  • tight tail in the shape of a ring;
  • thick, fluffy hair, on the legs, muzzle - the fur is short, and in the tail area the hairs are much longer.

Males are larger than females; moreover, their “fur coat” looks richer. Another "highlight" of the breed is the "smile".When the shiba inu opens its mouth, visually it seems that the dog is smiling.

Color features

Shiba Inu fur consists of a “shirt” and a thick undercoat. The following types of colors are distinguished:

  • black, black and tan;
  • ginger;
  • sesame seeds (an amazing combination of hairs of different colors).

Black shiba inu look especially impressive and attract even fastidious dog breeders. However, finding completely black Japanese dogs is quite difficult. Variations of this color are much more common. For example, black and tan colors are characterized by “overlapping” of red or white spots on a dark background. Note that the color of this breed is not limited to the presence of only black, white and red hairs. There are individuals with tints of red, ashen and rusty colors. In the sun, this color shimmers and sparkles. Very nice!

Black sesame fur looks equally impressive. With him, the ends of light hairs are painted in dark color. Visually, it looks as if the dog’s coat was sprinkled with black powder.

Regardless of the color, Japanese dogs are owners of Urazhiro. This is the bright inside, which captures:

  • neck
  • ears;
  • chest;
  • stomach;
  • the inside of the paws;
  • chin.

Black Shiba Inu are beautiful and noble dogs.

Character

All Japanese breeds of hunting dogs are independent. Shiba Inu is no exception. They perceive the owner as a partner and are not particularly keen on submission. The features of raising puppies of this breed are precisely in the acceptance of their independence and respect for them.

As soon as the breeder manages to establish “contact” with the little “stubborn”, you can start training. This process will be methodical and consistent, but it will certainly bear fruit. With a competent approach, Shiba Inu will grow up a loyal friend and a brave defender.

For a Japanese dog, its own territory is inviolable. Do not violate its boundaries and specifically bring the animal "to emotions." In the apartment, it is advisable to create a special aviary for a four-legged friend, where he can relax and play. This character trait Shiba Inu is perfectly manifested in the protection of a private house.

The dog instantly feels the "outsiders" on the territory and "will give a voice." As for friendship with small households, the Shiba Inu is quite patient. But excessive children's activity in relation to the pet is undesirable. In response to too intrusive behavior, the pet can growl and even bite slightly.

Dogs of this breed are very clean. In rainy weather, do not explore the puddles and prefer to stay away from dirt. Shiba Inu patiently treat other pets and do not show aggression to cats.

Maintenance and care

Representatives of this breed are quite unpretentious. However, without proper care, the animal’s health is in danger. Dog hair must be combed regularly. One procedure per week is enough. Naturally, during the molting period, dogs take care of fur more intensively. The owner needs to stock up with a medium-hard brush and a slicker.

They bathe black Shiba Inu as they become dirty using special shampoos. They will add softness and shine to dark hair. Also, the fur of the animal is treated from parasites. Maintaining hygiene of the ears and eyes is the key to a healthy pet. Cotton swabs dipped in a special solution are suitable for this procedure. To care for the oral cavity of a pet, pastes and powders are used, which can be easily bought at pet stores.

The nutrition of the Japanese dog must be balanced and varied. Shiba Inu is suitable for natural products and industrial feed. The first include:

  • lean meat, cleaned of bones (except for pork);
  • cereals (buckwheat, rice and oatmeal);
  • offal;
  • vegetables and greens;
  • sea fish;
  • eggs (1-2 times a week).

As for the "purchased" feed, then for this breed premium products are suitable.There are also special lines for Japanese dogs. Puppies eat 4–5 times a day; for adult dogs, 2 servings of food per day are sufficient. The pet should not give sweets, fatty meat and river fish. Drinking should be fresh.
