Norwegian Buhund: breed characteristics, rules of care

Currently, there is little information on the origin of the Norwegian Buhund breed. This type of dog is directly related to the Kamchatka, Siberian, and Greenland shepherd groups. This dog is also called the Norwegian Laika, it is the oldest of the Scandinavian breeds. In 1880, in the area of ​​Gokstad, Viking burials were discovered, next to which there were skeletons and dog fur. The remains of this beast were mistaken for the ancestor of modern Bukhund.

Viking tribes used these representatives of the animal world to protect their homes, property, and livestock. The northern dog traveled the world with his masters, without leaving people on earth and on water. After some time, animals entered the territory of Greenland, Ireland, and Scotland. According to some theories, the ancestors of this breed are Sheltie, Icelandic dogs.

• front and hind legs stand straight, they are inherent in muscularity and evenness;
• in height, the animal reaches about 47 cm, while weighing 15 kg;
• the pet’s coat is coarse, has an average length, the hairline on the muzzle, the front of the legs is shorter than on the breast, neck and tail, the undercoat of the dog is warm and thick;
• the coat color of the Norwegian husky can be wheat or black, according to the standard the dog can have a dark mask and dark outer hair.

The Norwegian Buhund is a calm, loyal, energetic and hardworking dog breed. The mental development of dogs deserves special attention.
