Surely in every house there is an unnecessary couple of newspapers. Using newspaper tubes, you can make a wonderful decorative element for your interior. And no one will even guess what it is made of. From paper tubes you can weave a variety of baskets, key holders, caskets and trays. After reading the article, you will learn how to weave a pencil owl yourself.

Preparation

To weave an owl, you will need any thin paper, for example, old notebooks, magazines, but it is ideal if it is a newspaper. In addition, if you plan to paint the finished product, then the type of paper is not so important. Newspapers and magazines are often used without coloring, choosing the illustrations for them according to the color scheme. To make a tube out of paper, you will need additionally:

  • glue;
  • spoke;
  • brush;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife.

Getting started, the paper is cut into thin strips, strictly in the direction of the fibers. This improves twisting it into a tube. You can find out the direction by tearing off the strip, and if the line of separation is flat, then it is correct. The second way to find out is to lightly wet the paper. When it gets wet, it will curl up, and in what direction it will do it, that’s why it needs to be twisted.

The width of the strips depends on the size of your craft. On average, this figure varies from 5 to 10 cm. For a pencil owl, stripes 10 centimeters wide are required.

Step-by-step master class

To twist a newspaper tube, you need to take a knitting needle at an angle of 30 degrees and wrap the edge of a paper strip on its tip. The length of the tube will depend on how you hold the spoke. Carefully twist the paper onto the knitting needle, and the remaining free tip must be glued to the already finished tube.After the glue dries, you can remove the tube from the knitting needle.

It often happens that the side of the tube is thicker. Then you can resort to "building up", that is, insert one tube into another, and glue the junction.

If staining of the product is required, then it is possible at this stage to color all the tubes. But this is not recommended for beginners to do this, because at first it is difficult to calculate the right amount of material. It is better to paint hard-to-reach places with a thin brush according to the result of the work, and varnish at the end. Often used staining paper in the color of a tree. Then the craft becomes more like a wooden one.

After a sufficient amount of paper sticks has been prepared, you can begin to weave a pencil owl.

  • Three elongated tubes are taken (you can make them by connecting two ordinary ones) and cross each other at an angle of 60 degrees. If you need more diameter, then 4 tubes and at an angle of 45 degrees. Places where the tubes are connected to each other can be glued.
  • A shape is placed in the center of intersection, and another tube is added to it so that an isosceles triangle is obtained.
  • Then we begin to bend counterclockwise, and you need to do this so that the tubes touch the established shape. The angles at this time should remain the same.
  • Weaving is necessary until the desired height of the craft is obtained. When the tube begins to end, it can be increased using another. As a result of the work, the remaining tip is cut off and refilled gently under the bottom row.
  • Next, we proceed to the manufacture of a decorative element for the product. To get the owl's eyebrows, you will also need newspaper tubes. It is necessary to take two and bend, pre-moistened with water. Two more tubes must be made flat, having previously rolled them, and braided by them bent.
  • Thus, two identical parts are braided, connected together, and the remaining tubes are intertwined with a third flat. So the beak of a bird is formed. Eyes need to be woven from twisted flat tubes smeared with glue. In order not to unwind, firmly fix them with an elastic band and wait for the glue to completely dry.
  • When the eyes and beak of the owl are ready, they can be glued to the main part. To reliably fix the elements, it is advisable to place it under the press for 2-3 hours.
  • The pencil is ready!
