Quilted coat

What is quilted fabric? A heater is placed between two cuts of any material, then the layers are stitched at the desired distance, and a new type of material is obtained, from which clothes (or not only clothes, but also bedspreads, blankets) are sewn.

Once, such a complex fabric was used only for lining (sewn or removable) warm clothes. But if now at the height of fashion, for example, almost nonsense is a sleeveless coat, then why not make the former lining the front side? Moreover, modern heaters, which can be warm or lightweight, voluminous or flat, light or heavy, natural or synthetic, can realize any flight of designers' imagination.

Distinctive features of a modern quilted coat are:

  • excellent heat-insulating properties due to the large number of evenly spaced joints;
  • high windproof properties;
  • lightness of the product;
  • practicality;
  • the possibility of creating an elegant silhouette, which can hardly be achieved using another, more voluminous, thick and warm fabric in combination with a heater.

Styles and models

Quilted fabric is a very grateful material, from it you can create a coat of almost any model and style. Depending on the season, quilted coats can be light, demi-season or warm.

Models can be very different:

  • straight-cut coat - a classic option for a calm and confident woman;
  • trench coat - a style for all time, acquiring a special elegance when using often quilted fabric;
  • coat with a hood - a model with a sports accent for girls and women who lead an active lifestyle;
  • a short (sometimes to the waist) jacket coat is a small stylish little thing for a stylish girl;
  • a cardigan coat is another classic version of a coat without a collar, but now with a twist in the form of a beautiful stitch and warming;
  • a fitted “empire” silhouette coat with two rows of buttons on the chest - a model in a romantic style, emphasizing the tenderness and grace of the owner, however, if necessary, remarkably hiding extra centimeters at the waist and hips;
  • a fitted coat with a flared bell skirt or a pleated skirt - depending on the degree of flare of the skirt, the image also turns out to be very different: from exquisite and a little playful to outrageous-defiant;
  • a coat of an o-shaped silhouette is an excellent example of retro-style, especially if you add accessories that are consistent in the same style in the form of ankle boots, gloves, a hat and, of course, a small handbag;
  • a trapezoidal coat - a warm, comfortable and beautiful find for overweight and pregnant women;
  • an oversized coat is for fans of shapeless clothes, but such a coat looks great with a sheath dress;
  • asymmetric coat - for women who are tired of the usual look, and in such a coat everything can be asymmetric - the front of the coat is higher than the back, slanting sleeves, one shelf is asymmetrical with respect to the other, the asymmetric collar.
  • coat with sleeves of various lengths - sleeveless models, with short sleeves, with 7/8 and 3/4 sleeves.

Models of quilted coats can have a different shape and type of collar:

  • small turn-down collar (round or pointed, single and multi-layered);
  • stand-up collar (with or without buckle for fixation), rounded or straight;
  • English collar (split or solid);
  • a schalke collar (with or without a quilting, which makes the collar more voluminous);
  • a high knitted collar, often in combination with knitted cuffs (long or short) of a color contrasting to the coat;
  • This season’s trendy detachable collar made of natural or faux fur.

The fastener can also be varied:

  • classic, buttoned (straight or asymmetric), hidden or hidden;
  • with a zipper (detachable or one-piece for jackets with a fastener to the middle of the chest), and the zipper can usually be sewn diagonally or even on top of the shelf;
  • combine two types of fasteners: the lower part of the strips - zipper, the upper - decorative loops and the same hooks.

Length

In this parameter, quilted coats also have virtually no restrictions: from short sleeveless coats to stylish floor-length insulated coats. Coats of medium length, up to the knee, are especially popular.

Material

Upper Fabric Material:

  • gabardine;
  • jeans;
  • tweed;
  • lightweight drap;
  • wool;
  • leather;
  • raincoat fabric;
  • polyester;
  • a combined version of two or more types of fabric (quilted and non-quilted) with inserts of leather, suede, tweed, drape, knitwear - for example, a quilted leather coat with sleeves from knitwear.

Of no small importance is the distance at which the three-layer panel is sewn (it depends on how voluminous the final product will look) and the type of stitches themselves: geometric (squares, rhombuses, stripes) or in the form of abstract patterns - they set additional stylish accents.

The insulation material can be artificial (synthetic winterizer, holofiber, tinsulate, walterm) or natural (batting, goose or duck down).

Color

The color scheme of quilted coats provides an extensive field for creative ideas of fashion designers: red, yellow, turquoise, purple, green, dark orange and of course, the classics - white, black, gray, beige. This season, various combinations of shades of the same tone or different colors are in fashion. A quilted coat in silver or golden metallic looks spectacular.

Fabrics with various prints are also used, sometimes applications are applied to the fabric or even decorated with embroidery.

What to wear?

Here with the choice of clothes that go with a quilted coat, you will never have a problem because of its rare versatility:

  • A short jacket can be perfectly combined with any jeans clothes. You can choose a skirt of different lengths and styles (straight or flared, from mini to maxi) or jeans. Add appropriate shoes (ankle boots for a short skirt or high boots for a mini, sneakers or gym shoes for jeans). Depending on the choice, you will create a playfully piquant or sporty look. A great addition will be a long knitted scarf.
  • A straight demi-season coat, a pencil skirt, medium-length suede boots with flat soles and low wide heels, a voluminous scarf-snood - stylish and comfortable at the same time, which is not so common.
  • A spectacular fitted leather coat with a curly stitching of the most popular medium length, with a flared hem will present in a winning light a cocktail dress worn underneath and pumps or stilettos.
  • A cocoon coat with short sleeves will create the effect of fragility if you wear a straight skirt or trousers, long leather gloves and a hat with small brim.
  • Winter shortened coats will look great on you, and it will be especially comfortable and warm if you wear also warm pants with fur boots or warm sneakers.

The selection of accessories for a quilted coat is also important.

The main thing is to observe an important rule: if the coat is plain, has a simple cut, an ordinary quilting, then you can and should experiment freely with its accessories: play with the colors of the scarf, gloves and hat. So, you can choose them in one color with a coat, but shades that differ from each other.

You can choose contrasting accessories and add a bag, which will also be made of quilted material (leather, leatherette of good quality or fabric).

If the coat itself is colorful, then experiments with accessories will be inappropriate, because your task is to create a stylish image, whether it is elegant or deliberately careless, and an excessive number of variegated and incompatible accessories is not always justified even in a circus.

Fashion trends

Saturated deep colors are so different in style, but quilted coats from Fendi and Escada are equally interesting in style.

A separate discussion will be about quilted coats 2016 from the Chanel fashion house and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

The Chanel brand, as usual, delights with the elegance and sophistication of its looks, combining almost incompatible, for example, oversized quilted coats with classic elements - a black, slightly shapeless loose-cut coat, expanding downward, but double-breasted, on two buttons, with an English collar.

For strict and even slightly impregnable ladies - a double-breasted quilted coat in an English respectable style - black, tailored, double-breasted, long quilted coat with an English collar. And under it - jeans and sneakers. Is it weird? And it looks - stylish!

Manufacturers and Brands

Quilted coats very quickly left the catwalk “to the people”, the ideas of fashion house designers were quickly picked up by world manufacturers and introduced into mass production.

Today it is easier to say which manufacturer does not produce quilted products, but leadership is firmly held:

  • Italian company "Geox";
  • Finnish products from Finn Flare;
  • German products from Tom Tailor;
  • American company "Rick Cardona";
  • Norwegian coats "Helly Hansen"
  • numerous Russian designers, including D`imma fashion studio.
