Despite the fact that in the modern world, sewing clothes yourself is not so relevant, the tricks that sewing machines can share remain relevant. One of them is the technique of how to easily and quickly dissolve an overlock seam. It would seem that there is nothing easier than ripping open. However, it is not. Read how to do this correctly in this article.
Necessary tools
For the method of opening the overlock seam described here, it will be sufficient to use only scissors. It is desirable that they have a narrow tip. However, there are a couple of tools that can make your job easier. One of them is a spreader. It is a small tool with a handle and a special, forked tip. One tip of the tool is sharp and ground, the other is smaller and equipped with a ball. Between them is a blade. The tool is designed so that it is easy to pry a thread and cut it. Another tool is a snipper. It is a scissors, but without rings. Instead of them - a spring.
The handle of the sniper is usually metal, less often plastic. They are best suited for fine and jewelry sewing.
What can not be done?
First of all, you can not pull the threads from the seam randomly. This approach can spoil not only the junction, but also the product itself. In addition, acting in this way, it is definitely impossible to quickly open the seam. You need to start dissolving the seam not from the middle, but from the place where it ended. Determining the end of the seam is quite easy: you need to position the seam with the front side facing you. The edge to the right or bottom will be the end of the overlock line.
The fastening at the end of the seam is opened at the very end of the process.
It is also undesirable to use a blade for beginners during this process. It is most often used only by professionals, since the blade can easily damage the fabric.
How to dissolve a seam?
Below is a step-by-step instruction on how to properly dissolve the above-mentioned seam:
- First you need to put the product so that the front side of the overlock seam is facing the person;
- having outlined for yourself small gaps between all the loops of 1 cm, selectively gently pull out some of the loops with a spreader;
- cut these loops in the middle with scissors or a snipper;
- pull each of the cut threads and remove them from the surface of the fabric;
- now you can dissolve the horizontal line by only slightly pulling the free edge;
- then turn the product over to the wrong side and pull the empty loops from the fabric - this can be considered complete removal of the seam.
This manual is intended to dissolve the seam into 3 threads, but it can also be used to break the joint into 4 threads. To do this, make additional cuts with a steam stripper in the middle and lower lines.
In conclusion, I want to say about the importance of such a factor as accuracy. The meaning of this procedure is not to damage the fabric, opening the stitch. Therefore, be careful and scrupulous.
