The sofa is perhaps the most popular and favorite piece of upholstered furniture. In a sense, it is universal: in the normal state it is a place for comfortable sitting, and when unfolded - a comfortable bed. Today's market offers a huge selection of a wide variety of sofas. In this article we will talk about "eurobooks" with armrests - one of the most common types of sofas.

Features

Strictly speaking, the “Eurobook” is the name of the transformation mechanism that provides a change of state of the sofa (from unfolded to folded, and vice versa). It is very simple: to unfold the sofa, you just need to push the bottom panel (seat) forward, and lay the backrest in the vacated space. If on ordinary sofas the back is one-sided (that is, soft on one side), then in “Eurobooks” it is two-sided - when lowering it to the sleeping position, the back side appears from above.

As with any subject, Eurobooks with armrests have their advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of this type of furniture include:

  • ease of handling - both the teenager and the elderly can fold and unfolded the sofa;
  • comfort;
  • the presence of a built-in drawer in which you can remove linen, pillows, etc .;
  • ability to withstand increased loads;
  • durability;
  • variety of models.

Of course, there were some cons:

  • possible damage to the floor when extending the seat;
  • a noticeable cavity at the junction of the panels can cause discomfort during sleep;
  • the service life depends on the quality of the materials used in the design.

Kinds

Sofas - "eurobooks" are distinguished by several parameters.

  • In shape. There are straight (simple), angular and U-shaped.
  • By the number of seats. Lines can be double and triple, and U-shaped and angular - multi-seat.
  • By the presence and number of armrests. There are models without armrests (we will not dwell in detail), with one and two armrests.
  • By the number of sections - two and three section. A two-section product consists of a frame and two panels: seats and backs. In the second case, an additional section is added to the structure, which provides a large width when unfolded.
  • By the presence of spring blocks: spring and springless. The first type is subdivided into two more: with dependent (bonnel) and independent springs. In the first case, the springs in the block are fixed in conjunction with each other. The period of comfortable use of such a sofa is no more than 9-10 years, but the fairly low cost provides widespread and popular. On a sofa with independent springs, each metal spiral is covered with its own cover and is not connected with its “neighbors”. This design, of course, is more expensive than the bonnel type, but it will last much longer - about 15 years.

Springless sections are filled with elastic and soft filler, which provides comfort when sitting and sleeping. Three types of fillers are used: foam rubber, polyurethane foam and latex. The cheapest and short-lived material is foam rubber - it quickly loses shape, pushes through and crumbles. The polyurethane foam filler will last much longer, it keeps its shape perfectly, has a good density, but there is one caveat - sofas with this filling are quite rigid, and for a comfortable sleep it is better to lay a mattress. Latex is the most expensive in price, but it will provide you with a comfortable seat and a good night's sleep.

Separate line are sofas with orthopedic mattresses - moderately hard (useful for the spine), moderately soft - for a great stay.

  • By the presence of a box for linen. In the vast majority of models, the design provides a box located in the sofa frame under the seat panel. There you can store bed sets, small blankets or pillows.
  • According to the material of the frame. The basis of the sofa can be presented in three versions: on a metal frame, from high-strength wood or chipboard (MDF). Products with a metal frame are considered the most durable and durable. Wooden ones are the safest from an environmental point of view, usually children's options are produced with a wooden frame. The most affordable and common type is the chipboard frame.

It is less durable than the first two types, but greatly wins in price.

  • Upholstery. Dense textile fabrics, leather and its substitutes, as well as the so-called anti-vandal materials: flock, microfiber, adhesive tape, can be used for a cover.
  • In size. There are narrow (guest) sofas, wide (sleeping), nurseries, etc.

How to choose?

First of all, you should compare the dimensions of the proposed purchase and the size of the room in which you want to place the sofa. Agree, it’s upsetting and annoying to find that such an expensive purchase does not fit in the room or leaves too little free space.

Pay attention to the frame material and its thickness. If you are looking for a budget option, look for sofas from MD (particleboard). But it should be noted that thin sheets of plywood or chipboard, used as the bottom, will not last long, especially with heavy loads. In addition, they absorb moisture too well (in violation of the protective layer) and, as a result, swell, deform. Wooden options are usually coated with a special varnish to prevent such situations, and metal ones in terms of resistance to deformation and strength, of course, come first.

Do not forget about the quality of the upholstery. If you have pets (cat or dog), choose products with anti-vandal cover. Also, do not buy a sofa that will discord with the color scheme of the room.

If you are going to use the Eurobook as a permanent sleeping place, when selecting the number and complexion of people who will rest on it.

For a couple, you need to look at a wider sofa than for one.
