If there is a small child in the house, then during the creative process the disorder is ensured. Plasticine, crayons and paints leave marks everywhere. Removing gouache paints from clothing is not easy, but possible.

What is gouache?

Gouache is a water-based paint. The color of gouache is determined by the type of coloring pigment that is ground into powder during production. Whitewash gives it a thick matte texture.

In modern production, substances such as fruit gum, dextrin and glycerin. They act as plasticizers. As a bonding base used phenols or gum arabic. In children's gouache, instead of gum arabic, glue.

There are three types of gouache, depending on the purpose:

  • art gouache. It is used only on special canvases for drawing. The feature is quickly absorbed into the surface allows you to apply paint in several layers for saturation. Its composition contains white, gum arabic and distilled water;
  • Poster gouache contains PVA glue and kaolin. Thanks to these substances, the coating becomes more dense, and the color - more saturated. It dries quickly. Use such paint for the manufacture of various posters and decorations. The composition of children's gouache is closest to the poster;
  • fluorescent paint is able to glow under ultraviolet rays;
  • acrylic gouache. Modern developments have allowed to add acrylic to gouache. It makes it possible to cover it with any base and is not washed off after the paint dries.

How to remove stains?

In the event of a gouache stain, you should first of all think about how to best remove it from clothing at home. On sale there is a huge number of specialized stain removers. They should definitely be used. However, long before that, various folk remedies for removing paint stains were invented.

Among budget products is widely known "Antipyatin". Judging by the reviews, he copes well with many types of pollution. Of the more expensive stain removing products, "Vanish", "Stork"stain removers from Amway and Faberlic.

All products should be used according to the recommendations on the packaging and look at what types of fabrics they are suitable for.

If the store product did not help, or it simply was not at hand, you can use folk recipes for stain removal.

Not all of them are equally well suited for all types of fabrics.

It is much easier to remove the stain from synthetic materials than to wash clothes from natural fabrics.

The most famous and proven means of time include the following:

  • Take the stained cloth, dampen it with plenty of water. Rub the contaminated area with ordinary household soap and leave for about half an hour so that the stain is well saturated. Then try to jam the dirt and rinse in clean water. If necessary, repeat the procedure again. Soap is suitable for all types of fabrics and for processing children's clothing.
  • In an extreme case, you can try to influence the stain with a dishwashing gel gel. It is applied to the contaminated area, previously foaming, and left on the fabric so that it is well saturated.
  • Mustard powder also has cleansing properties. It is necessary to dilute it with water to a porridge-like consistency, then apply the resulting paste to a contaminated surface. It is necessary to leave the product for 15-20 minutes and rinse off.

The easiest way to get gouache from synthetic fabric.

If the above methods do not help, try using ammonia. The most effective formula is a mixture of ammonia and oxalic acid.

Tools should be combined in equal parts and applied to the stain. The solution must be given time to properly soak the cloth, and then wash the clothes in the washing machine.

You can try using a nail polish remover. Put it on a cotton pad or cloth and rub it on the surface, then be sure to wash the thing with the powder in the machine.

Natural fabrics are likely to cause you a lot of trouble. In this case, household chemicals that many people have at home will come to the rescue. Try removing the stain with refined gasoline. Use a cotton swab dipped in the solution to treat the stain and leave a little so that the gasoline reacts with the paint. After that, you need to wash the product in the machine to eliminate odor. Suitable for these purposes and "White Spirit". It has a less pronounced smell than gasoline. The processing scheme is the same.

Vinegar does an excellent job of staining paint for synthetic clothing. It is necessary to apply it with a swab for contamination, leave it for a short time, and rinse the product in water to get rid of the smell.

Gasoline works well, but can leave unpleasant consequences on the fabric - stains from oil stains. Alcohol will help to cope with them. You need to soak them a cloth and wipe the stains, then rinse the thing again.

Particularly delicate fabrics require a gentle approach. There is a recipe specifically for such materials - a mixture of glycerol, ammonia and denatured alcohols taken in equal proportions. The solution must be carefully poured directly onto the stain, allowed to soak for 20 minutes, and then rinse well several times.

White clothes

White fabrics have their own processing specifics.First of all, you can use some kind of bleach to remove gouache stains. Better to choose a remedy, which contains no chlorine.

If you need to remove dirt from a synthetic blouse, chlorine can ruin the fabric. An excellent improvised tool for influencing white things, which is available in the arsenal of any housewife, is baking soda. It is poured directly on the contamination, after wetting the fabric with water. You can try to wipe the stain with a rag or a soft brush.

After that, wash the product in a machine with ordinary powder and rinse thoroughly.

Toothpaste can help quickly remove gouache from a white shirt. Thanks to modern active ingredients, it has whitening properties. 5 minutes after application, the paste is washed off with water.

If there are stains, the thing can be washed in the machine completely. A slightly extreme, but effective method is to place a white product in oxalic acid dissolved in water. Soak it is not more than an hour, and then thoroughly rinse with clean water.

Colored fabric

When cleaning colored fabrics, bleach cannot be used, that is, your stain remover should be designed for colored materials. It is better not to use solvents and White Spirit, they can change the color of the treated area, and in the end the thing will be damaged. This is especially true for multi-colored synthetic products.

Soda and toothpaste is also better to set aside, but soap, dishwashing detergent and vinegar will help remove pollution.

If your kid or you in the creative process left a whole palette of spots on jeans, you will have to work hard to remove them. Colored denim has a high density, which means that gouache deeply eats into its texture, and pollution must be influenced by powerful means.

For optimal results, you can try to mix gasoline and table vinegar in equal proportions, apply this solution to the problem area, leave for about half an hour, then rinse the clothes thoroughly under running water.

Old spots

It is good if the contamination on the clothes was noticed immediately, but most often it is detected some time after the occurrence. The old traces of gouache are the hardest to remove. It hardens and, due to its adhesive properties, penetrates deeply into the fibers of the fabric.

There are some tips for successfully removing old stains:

  • To remove old impurities, it is better to pre-soak the clothes in water for a couple of hours. It can be additionally treated with laundry soap or laundry detergent added.
  • If the gouache is dense and applied long ago, you can treat the stain with ordinary or ammonia before soaking, then soak it, as in the previous case. After all this, you can apply all of the above funds, depending on the type and color of the fabric.
  • If a thick layer of gouache has got on the surface of the clothes, then the dried-up paint must be carefully scraped off with a knife, then the affected area should be washed with laundry soap and left in a soap solution for a couple of hours. All other cleaning products must be applied with a brush.
  • Fluorescent paints should be cleaned with eucalyptus oil. They carefully lubricate the stain, wipe it with a clean cloth. But this technique is not suitable for delicate materials such as velvet, silk, chiffon. You may come across a recommendation to use eucalyptus or butter for pre-treatment and mitigation of gouache pollution, but after these steps an oil mark will remain on the product. You can get rid of it with alcohol or nail polish remover.

General tips

There are recommendations that apply to any method of removing gouache stains:

  • If you notice a stain, you need to remove it as soon as possible, otherwise the dirt will eat into the fabric, which will complicate the task.
  • Try to determine the type of paint most accurately, then it will be easier to apply the most effective methods of dealing with stains.
  • If the gouache is on the clothes in a thick layer, you need to carefully remove it with a brush, knife or blade, but only if the stain is completely dry (otherwise you can rub the paint even deeper into the fabric).
  • Always read clothing labels carefully. They indicate the composition of the material, what cleaning methods can be applied to it. Washing may not be permitted at all.
  • If purchased stain removers are used, they should be selected according to the color and type of fabric.
  • Wear household gloves when handling household chemicals.
  • Strong formulations such as alcohol, thinner, or white spirit can damage the fabric, so it’s best to test them first on an inconspicuous area of clothing.
  • Soak products stained with gouache, you need in cold water, otherwise the binder will harden when heated, making the stain almost irreducible. This rule must be observed when washing in the machine.
