When carrying out repair work, clothes are often stained with various finishing materials. One of the most difficult types of pollution is traces of mounting foam. The mixture is characterized by good adhesion, therefore it adheres firmly to a wide variety of materials.

Features

Foam is one of the most popular building materials. It is used to seal cracks and cracks on various surfaces. The mixture penetrates perfectly even into the most inaccessible places and is tightly connected to the surface.

High technical characteristics of the material are an absolute advantage in construction, which cannot be said about those cases when the mixture comes into contact with clothing.

Removing polyurethane foam sealant from the fabric is quite problematic. This is especially true in cases where the foam had time to harden. When hardening, the mounting mixture expands and fills all the larger areas of the fabric. Dealing with old stains is only possible with fairly aggressive cleaning methods.

How to wipe?

The simplest method of cleaning things from polyurethane foam sealant is the use of special mixtures. In construction stores, a mortar for washing the construction gun from the remaining foam is sold. This product easily removes polyurethane foam sealant from the fabric. However, such a solution may not be at hand. You can also remove the stain yourself by using folk remedies.

Tools at hand

Not always at hand are special solutions to eliminate traces of foam.In this case, you can cope with pollution using folk remedies.

In everyday life, refined gasoline is often used for lighters and gas burners. Such a solution is mainly used to remove oil paints and varnishes. However, refined gasoline also softens the mounting foam well. The advantage of this tool is the absence of components in the composition that could leave traces of dirt on the fabric.

Almost every female in the house has a cosmetic product for removing nail polish. If acetone is part of such a liquid, the product can be safely used to remove the mounting foam. However, a nail polish remover can only cope with fresh spots.

Sunflower oil acts on polyurethane foam sealant no worse than solvents. For the best effect, it is recommended to warm the oil before applying it to the contaminated area. The disadvantage of this method is the appearance of greasy oil stains on clothes, getting rid of which will not be so easy.

Special compounds

Special mixtures include cleaning guns for mounting guns, which are often produced by manufacturers along with a specific type of sealant, as well as compositions designed to remove mounting foam from various surfaces.

The mortar for washing construction guns copes well with fresh, not yet dried spots. It is best to clean old pollution with the help of special aerosols.

Solvents for polyurethane foam can soften the building material, which will allow it to be wiped off the surface. Such mixtures are more expensive than solutions for an assembly gun, but also more effective.

You can try to clean fresh and not dried up traces of foam. Sometimes several tablespoons of salt are added to soapy water and clothes are soaked in the resulting solution. The contaminated area must be washed by thoroughly rubbing it with your hands. If the mounting foam does not have time to penetrate deeply into the fabric structure, then it will easily be removed.

You can also remove polyurethane foam from clothing using conventional stain removers. The top layer of foam needs to be removed with a clerical knife blade. Then the problem area is treated with a stain remover, after which the thing needs to be thoroughly washed.

For greater effect, gasoline and stain remover can be used sequentially. However, such products can ruin the clothes, so you need to work with them very carefully.

After hardening, the polyurethane foam penetrates deeply between the fibers of the fabric and adheres tightly to them. The dried spots of the mounting foam can be removed only by using aggressive means. If the house did not have a special solution for removing polyurethane foam sealant, then you can use the following compounds:

  • refined gasoline for gas burners;
  • acetone;
  • special fluids to remove dry mounting mixture;
  • white spirit solvent.

Using a cotton swab or rag, the selected product is applied to the contaminated surface, after which the foam is cleaned with a brush. Then the clothes should be washed well.

The disadvantages of using chemical solutions include the following:

  • to soften and clean the mounting foam with solvents is much more difficult and longer in time than when using a special composition;
  • aggressive solutions can ruin a thing, since when actively exposed, they can dissolve coloring pigments on clothing or fabric fibers.

Not every fabric can withstand the effects of strong chemicals, so any selected product must be tested on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric before application to a contaminated surface.

Dimethyl sulfoxide can help with old spots. The tool can be purchased at any pharmacy. The solution is popularly known as "dimexide."The cotton wool soaked in this composition is applied to the contaminated area and left for good impregnation for about half an hour.

Polyurethane foam under the influence of dimethyl sulfoxide becomes soft and elastic. The foam can be tipped with the tip of a knife and removed in small pieces of cloth. The remaining foam can be washed off with soapy water.

Overview of store mixes

In the building materials market, there are many solutions for removing foam from various surfaces. The effectiveness of a particular cleaner depends on the composition of the mixture, as well as on the manufacturer. Before carrying out construction work, it is advisable to purchase a special cleaner in advance. You can get acquainted with the assortment directly in the store or study the product information in advance.

  • Cleaner "Oppa" Designed to remove polyurethane foam sealant residues from mounting guns. However, this tool copes with dirt from polyurethane foam and on other surfaces. The mixture is available in 500 ml aerosol cans. Many masters recommend the use of the Oppa cleaner. The mixture fell in love with customers for high quality and low cost. The disadvantages include a large flow rate of the solution.
  • Makroflex Premium. Makroflex Foam Cleaner is suitable only for removing fresh stains. The price of this product is significantly higher than the cost of the Oppa cleaner. Makroflex Premium is also available in 500 ml aerosol cans. Buyers note the good quality of the mixture. With fresh spots, the cleaner copes quickly and efficiently.
  • Grover. Under this brand, two modifications of polyurethane foam sealant are available: Grover Cleaner and Grover Remover. Grover Cleaner is used only to remove fresh traces. This solution can also be used as a degreasing agent for various surfaces before applying paintwork on them. Grover Remover is a more popular modification. Such a solution is most effective in combating contamination from polyurethane foam and helps to remove even old traces. Foam stains can be cleaned not only with ordinary fabric, but also with leather items. This product does not contain Freon.

You can work with such material even indoors. Customers at Grover Remover note the excellent blend quality and ease of use. The solution is available in the form of an aerosol can. Included with the spray is a convenient nozzle.

  • Soudal. Soudal polyurethane foam cleaning products are available as a spray and special paste. Aerosol helps to cope only with fresh traces. Compared to paste, this type of cleaner is not expensive.

Soudal paste for cleaning cured foam is more expensive than many aerosols. However, this disadvantage is offset by the high quality of the product and low consumption. Buyers highlight the following advantages of this tool:

  • ease in work;
  • To remove stains, you need very little such paste;
  • does not spoil the surface.

Household cleaning methods

    The process of cleaning clothes from foam will completely depend on the chosen product. As previously noted, the easiest way to remove this contamination is to clean the mounting gun. In this case, the cleaning process will be as follows:

    • The outer layer of foam is removed from the surface with a metal spatula or knife blade.
    • Different types of tissue can give a different reaction to a chemical agent. Therefore, it is recommended that you first apply a little solution to an inconspicuous area of clothing. If the fabric has not deteriorated and has not changed color, then the liquid can be used in a contaminated area.
    • Pour a cleaner onto a piece of cotton wool or soft cloth and then gently rub the solution into a stain on clothing.
    • When the foam is well wetted, it must be cleaned from the surface using a dishwashing sponge or a brush with a stiff bristle.
    • Then the thing is washed in any convenient way with the addition of a large amount of laundry soap or laundry detergent.

    The most effective way to remove old traces of foam is special solvents. Before applying the fluid to the contaminated area, the fabric should be well cleaned from adhered pieces of foam. For this purpose, you can use a sharp knife or a thin blade. You need to act carefully so as not to cut the fabric.

    The foam adhered to the structure of the material is treated with a solvent. The problem area is soaked in the solution and left to soak for the time indicated on the package. Most often, just wait 15 minutes. Soft foam can be cleaned with a brush or rubbing a contaminated area.

    The most convenient to use aerosol solvents for polyurethane foam. With such solutions it is easy to treat the contaminated area. The exposure time of such a composition is increased to 25 minutes. The softened foam is removed with a sponge from foam.

    Non-standard methods

      It is possible to influence pollution from polyurethane foam not only by means of special or improvised means. Building material reacts to temperature effects. There are two ways to clean clothes from polyurethane foam sealant using temperature:

      • under the influence of freezing temperatures;
      • under the influence of high temperatures.

      In the first case, the clothes are tightly packed in a plastic bag, while the contaminated area of the fabric should protrude. Then the thing must be removed in the freezer until the stains from the foam completely freeze. After the sealant has hardened, the contaminated area is cleaned with a knife blade. The remaining foam can be removed with a solvent. In conclusion, the clothes must be washed well.

      You can clean old jeans or a canvas jacket with a long exposure to high temperatures. Things must be hung in such a way that direct sunlight falls on them and leave them for several days. Contaminated tissue areas should be rubbed with your hands as often as possible so that the foam leaves the material better.

      Recommendations

      When using aggressive chemicals to remove stains from the mounting foam, you need to take care not only about the safety of the tissue, but also about your own health. Solvents are quite toxic, therefore when working with such substances, the room should be well ventilated.

      Avoid getting liquid on the mucous membranes of the eyes, mouth and nose. All work must be carried out with rubber gloves to avoid irritation of the skin of the hands.

      It is not always possible to remove an old stain from the mounting foam from clothing. Building material can penetrate deep enough into the structure of the fabric and give in poorly to the effects of various cleaning agents. In this case, the contaminated area can be treated with paint on a fabric of the appropriate color - so the stain will become less noticeable.

      For cleaning trousers from delicate fabrics, it is better not to use aggressive agents and solvents. Chemicals can corrode the fibers of the material, and the pants will become unusable.
