Table setting is an important and creative process. The impression of the guests on the feast depends on how the table is laid and what items are offered to be used. When choosing accessories, it is worth paying attention not only to individual dishes, main dishes, but also to secondary objects. For example, a variety of vases and crackers should be selected harmonious and roomy.

Appointment

Crackers have long been known among the general population. Initially, they were made in order to serve bread crumbs on the table. From here they got their name. Later they began to put cookies, sweets, and bread in the bread pan. Now they are sometimes even mistakenly called bread bins. But both names show well that Most often, breadcrumbs appear on the table at lunchtime, as their contents go in addition to soups.

Varieties and Choice

Crackers can be of several types.

Wooden

In rural areas, most of the dishes were made of wood, so such crackers can be considered the most authentic. Traditionally, they are made from linden, which in itself has a pleasant shade and antibacterial properties, that is safe to interact with food.

In addition, wooden crackers can be painted, coated with carvings and varnish, and decorated with a cloth. Wood gives a lot of room for creativity.

Wicker

If wooden and any other options are difficult to make on their own, then wicker utensils are particularly affordable. Usually crackers are woven of twigs or birch bark. Birch bark is a birch bark that is cut into strips and dried. And the vine is peeled willow twigs.

They make beautiful baskets, crackers, however, they are relatively short-lived. Like any plant material, birch bark and vine wear out over time, and the structure itself can begin to fall apart. But they have one more plus - this is the ability to easily and at any time make a handle-bezel.

Metal

In contrast to wicker, metal products are always a guarantee of long service. However, here it is necessary to pay attention to which metal is selected as the material. Most desirable of course silver crackers, since this metal not only looks beautiful on the table, but also has strong antibacterial properties. Sometimes they are made with a rim handle or with a lid, which adds ease of use.

Back in the 19th century, the production of metal crackers, stylized as wickerwork, began, they are popular now.

Silver is best suited for such models, and aluminum can be chosen as a budget option. In addition to these metals, stainless steel, enamelled steel and titanium are also used for dishes, but they are rarely used for crackers.

Porcelain and faience

To the XIX century, we owe another type of biscuits. Porcelain was very popular among high society due to its white color and surface, which made it possible to apply any pattern and color glaze. Such patterns were usually repeated on dishes included in one set. Composing different services was considered bad form, so dinner sets included breadcrumbs.

For less wealthy houses, faience ware was made. Outwardly, they were almost indistinguishable from porcelain, so they became quite worthy of their replacement. Thus, crackers made of earthenware began to appear. Both those and others can now be purchased at ware shops.

Plastic

With the advent of cheap plastic, cookware made of this material has become an integral part of our lives. It, in turn, is also quite cheap, and at the same time not as fragile as porcelain, earthenware, wicker or even wooden. In terms of quality, plastic is inferior only to metals and especially their hard alloys, however, it is much lighter in weight.

When choosing a bread bowl, you should pay attention to marking and type of plastic - it should belong to food categories, otherwise such a thing cannot be used even for temporary storage of products. There are also crackers made of food grade silicone. They are flexible and malleable.

However, do not abuse it, otherwise you can spoil the product - any plastic model can crack from a sharp physical impact.
