How to make marshmallows using the kanzashi technique?

An amazing needlework technique called “kanzashi” came to us from the Land of the Rising Sun. With its help, you can make beautiful and stylish fakes. The technique is easy to use and suitable for beginners. To begin its study, it is necessary to prepare improvised materials and follow the instructions exactly.

In the manufacture of original crafts in Japanese style, natural material is used, as a rule, it is silk. But to save money, you can use another option, for example, atlas. Pieces or ribbons of this shiny and dense material are great for embodying the most extraordinary creative ideas.

Satin ribbon products can be used as follows:

• clothes decoration;
• creation of hair accessories and other jewelry (bows, hairpins, elastic bands);
• decoration of caskets;
• use of products to complement the interior.

One of the features of this technique is the mandatory processing of the edges of the fabric. This is done using a blowtorch, candle or any other source of open flame. If this is not done, the craft will have a sloppy appearance due to protruding threads.

Using eastern technique, they often make flowers, but today we will consider a master class on making marshmallows. The finished product can be used as the basis for creating an original decoration.

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare the following:

• main material (fabric or fabric tapes);
• sewing needles;
• strong threads;
• ruler or sewing meter;
• candle, lighter, gas burner or blowtorch (choose any tool at hand);
• glue (a glue gun is best suited, but if it is not, you can use the universal composition);
• decorative elements (beads, stones, rhinestones).

It’s easy to make an original craft. Prepare the following materials.

• Pieces of satin: 20 elements of red color - 2.5x6 centimeters; 8 square elements - 2.5x2.5 centimeters.
• Volumetric and expressive lace. The average length varies from 30 to 40 centimeters. The longer the lace ribbon, the more magnificent the finished product will be.
• Colorful core. In our case, a plastic scarlet heart is used, but you can take any other element.
• To decorate the marshmallow, you will need 20 pearl beads. One element for each bead. The approximate diameter is 0.7 centimeters.
• Felt circles. It will take several pieces of different sizes - 3 centimeters in diameter, and 2 elements of 4 centimeters in diameter.
• Also do not forget the tools necessary for the job: scissors, threads, glue, candle, needles and more.

Step-by-step product execution.

• First you need to make petals resembling triangles. To do this, prepare a red ribbon. We cut the material 2.5 centimeters wide into pieces of 6 centimeters. Need 20 items. Finished strips should be processed along the edge. Satin ribbons need to be bent around the edges as shown in the image. Seal the edges of the tape and get the part with four corners.

• The element must be folded in half again and soldered to the ends using a candle, burner or other tool. If everything is done correctly, you will get a loop of two layers, such as shown in the photo. The petal is ready.

• According to a similar scheme, you need to make 8 parts. We will collect them in the upper tier. Next, we make another 12 red scarlet petals for the next tier of marshmallows and move on to the decoration. We carefully attach a bead to each part. Here is what should happen.

• Now we begin to assemble the product. We use a felt circle (diameter 4 centimeters) as the basis for 12 petals, folding them with sharp ends in the center. Immediately we collect a circle of 8 petals, using as a basis a felt circle in diameter of 3 centimeters. These are the 2 elements that result.

• Connect 2 circles, laying small on large

• We pass to the lace. We collect it in a circle and fix it with threads. It turns out such an openwork element.

• We fasten the lace under the scarlet circles, front side top.

• To make the craftsmanship complete, we will decorate it with a core and a snow-white flower. From pieces of squares of white satin (2.5x2.5 centimeters) you need to make 8 white petals. A simple manufacturing diagram is shown in the photo.

• Collect the white petals and you get a neat flower.

• Place the flower in the center of the craft and glue it. The final element is a red heart, which also needs to be attached in the middle. Here is such a wonderful craft in the end.

In the same way, you can make crafts from rep ribbons.

Prepare the following materials and tools:

• scissors;
• threads and needles;
• blowtorch, candle or lighter;
• satin ribbon in two colors, width - 2.5 centimeters.

The process of doing crafts.

• The first thing to do is to solder two tapes from the inside. The photo clearly shows how to do it correctly.

• Place the fabric element with the weld point on the right side.

• Fold the fabric at an angle of 90 ° as shown in the picture. The angle that you have turned out, you need to turn again (from right to left). As a result, an even triangle will appear, as in the image below.

• Tape the edges of the tape back. The upper right corner must be fixed together with the edge (tail) of the tape with a needle and thread.

• We take the resulting element and bend down again, at an angle of 90 °.

We turn the tape up. As a result, the lower part will become even.

• Now fold the tape from left to right, also at an angle of 90 °. Here is how it looks.

• In order for the next petal to acquire a complete appearance, it is necessary to form an isosceles triangle again. It is necessary to fold the main part of the tape from right to left again, passing the fabric between the already prepared petals. This is what should result from looking from the side. We fix the triangle with threads.

• We continue to work. Again, bend the left side of the main tape, at the same angle as previously done. We make a bend up (as in the photo).

• We rotate the fabric element so that the main part is again on the right side. To create another triangle, you need to wrap the working part of the tape so that it is again between two triangular petals. We sew the result again so that the tape holds well.

• Now, adhering to the scheme described above, you need to perform this manipulation about 15 times when using a narrow ribbon or 20 times if you selected a wide ribbon.

• Pull all petals tightly with a thread. The edges of the tape (tail), from which we started work, must be carefully glued to the last received petal. Turn the resulting bow face up and straighten the petals.

• Place any decorative element in the center of the product, in our case it is a plastic emoticon. Craft from a double tape is ready.
