Everyone who buys a gyro scooter for the first time in his life is interested in how many kilometers per hour this device is capable of issuing. On the first day, barely learning how to ride this vehicle, a young user will want to drive faster, go as far as possible, despite the manufacturer's instructions.
Factors Affecting the Speed of a Hoverboard
The laws of physics say that the speed of a gyroscope corresponds to the maximum declared only when riding on a perfectly flat road - whether it be the floor of a hypermarket or a racing bike track. In real conditions - on an asphalt pavement, on tiles in a park alley, and so on - the same speed can drop by 1-2 km / h. And it doesn’t matter if this speed, which the vehicle is generally capable of, is artificially limited. Its reduction on the same roads will be approximately the same: minus 2 kilometers per hour from the nominal value.
The diameter of the wheels also makes adjustments. With the same power generated by the same engines, the speed of the gyroscope is lower by an appropriate amount if the wheel is smaller. Not a gyro scooter having a nominal speed of 10 km / h on 6-inch wheels, the speed with 12-inch would be 20 km / h. This value is slightly reduced by the excess weight of the wheel: the mass of the entire system, shifted from place and rolled forward (the full weight of the gyro scooter and rider), may be 2-3 kg more. This is taking into account the design of the rim, the presence of an air-pumped chamber and other factors.
Finally, for the device to roll at maximum speed, it is not required:
- to go up - the force of gravity is directed downward;
- switch speed to a lower one;
- to overload the gyro scooter with excess weight, riding it together for two or three - this is primarily an individual vehicle;
- to try to carry heavy bags on it, to hang full and heavy backpacks on yourself, to try to carry oversized or other cargo that makes it difficult to control;
- ride with a strong headwind.
Subject to these rules, you are guaranteed to get the speed described in the instructions from the gyro scooter.
Typical speed
The speed of the hoverboard depends on its weight and engine power. In practice, gyro scooters with 700-watt motors will accelerate to 15 km / h - the maximum speed of a teenage bike with a single gear. On a gyro scooter with 800 W engines, the speed will reach 18 km / h, which puts it on a par with single-speed road bikes for adults and most scooters in the low and middle price ranges.
Maximum speed limit
The speed limit measure is a forced decision. This allows not only to extend the battery life, eliminating overloads, and reduce the load on the rubbing mechanics, but also to prevent accidents when traveling on a gyro scooter. Beginners who have just bought this vehicle are in a hurry to accelerate it to the speed that the engines themselves are generally capable of taking into account their real characteristics and the specific situation.
But one should not rush: the beginner learns to ride, to precisely control it at the minimum speed - for gyro scooters and segways it is 3-5 km / h. Some manufacturers program the device firmware in such a way that after a certain mileage (for example, 15 km) or an hour of “experience” (say, after 5 hours of driving), the speed limit will be removed automatically.
How to remove the speed limit?
The coarsest way to remove the restriction on the gyro scooter is to disassemble it and discard the control board and gyroscopes, leaving only the driver board, from which the stepper motors that rotate the wheel shafts are powered. But such an alteration is fraught with a complete loss of controllability - the capabilities of the gyro scooter will resemble the functionality of a simple electric skateboard rolling across, and not along. therefore To remove the restriction, either a set of mileage, set by the manufacturer itself, or setting using the application that controls the gyro scooter via Bluetooth, is used.
As an example, Xiaomi gyro scooters, issuing speeds of up to 20 km / h. To do this, you need to change the firmware version (firmware) of the vehicle. If your device has a version newer than 1.1.7, roll back to the previous one. But with version 1.3.1, it will not be possible to return to 1.1.7.
But the following can be done.
- Download the Ninebot app on your smartphone.
- Turn on the Ninebot mini function on your smartphone or tablet and connect to the device.
- In the upper right corner, press the main menu soft key.
- Give the command “Basic Information - Software Version”.
- Check that the hoverboard is 100% charged and turned on.
- Download the Ninebot 3.0 software version.
- In your Wi-Fi network settings, change your temporary IP address to a permanent one. It will be received upon registration as the DNS address 107.170.15.247.
- Confirm the action by clicking on the "Confident" button in the application.
- Revert the Wi-Fi settings to the previous version so that the firmware does not update itself.
At the end of the installation process, restart the gyro scooter. Try to ride it. The speed will increase from the standard 20 km / h to the maximum achievable value in real conditions. If you still could not significantly increase the speed, then perhaps you should look for another solution that does not interfere with controlling the gyro scooter.
