The phrase “boiled jeans” is likely to cause bewilderment among young people born on the border of the XX and XXI centuries. So that ignorant people do not have questions about why jeans should be cooked and how then they are, this article will tell.
What are dumpling jeans?
During the years of perestroika, the “Iron Curtain” with the West began to rise little by little, and of course, one of the first to slip out of it was fashion. Denim clothes with various prints became very popular among perestroika youth, but, unfortunately, was practically inaccessible. Therefore, the main fashionistas and women of fashion were considered to be those who themselves or whose relatives on duty had been abroad, because from there it was possible to bring light-colored jeans that were fashionable for that period of time.
But not everyone had access to overseas counters. A lot of imported items were sold from under the floor, since officially reselling the items bought abroad was called speculation and was punishable by the Criminal Code. It was illegally possible to purchase almost everything, including very fashionable then lightened jeans. But only a few could afford them because of the fabulous cost.
The desire of girls from the 80s to be beautiful was so strong that they looked for different ways for a little money to look stylish and fashionable. One of these inventions are jeans-dumplings. After some simple manipulations with bleach and ordinary blue jeans (by the way, also bought from speculators, but much cheaper than bleached ones), it was possible to get the most fashionable denim pants, which in appearance was very difficult to distinguish from a real import item.
A huge plus when digesting jeans was that the size of white stains and their intensity could be independently controlled during the cooking process, and even if the desired result could not be obtained the first time, the whole procedure could be repeated with a different concentration of bleach.
How to make at home?
According to contemporaries of dumpling jeans, the digestion procedure is quite simple, and it can be done independently in your own kitchen.
If you want to do such a thing yourself despite the fact that today you can easily buy any model you like in stores, clearly follow the instructions below.
So, the procedure for making jeans conditionally can be divided into three parts:
1) Preparation
2) Jam
3) Completion
Let's look at each step in a row.
Preparation. To make boiled jeans yourself, you will need:
- Blue jeans
- 7 liters of pure water
- 1 cup whiteness or other concentrated bleach
- Enameled basin, pan or bucket with a volume of at least 10 liters
- Wooden clips, clothespins and tight elastic
- Plastic or wooden stir bar (a regular sturdy stick will do)
- Latex gloves.
All items listed should be clean and not emit paint when in contact with whiteness or boiling water.
Pour water into an enameled container and put on fire. While the water is boiling, prepare the jeans. First of all, they must be dry and clean. The product must be chosen from real denim, since the presence of impurities in the cotton fabric can give an unpredictable, and often deplorable, result.
To get a specific print, there are various ways of folding jeans when cooking. Vertical stripes can be obtained by pulling off the legs with a tight elastic band; for large stripes and spots gins should be twisted slightly and fixed with a clamp, and for thin strips twisting should be especially tight. An interesting print will be obtained using ordinary clothespins - pinch them on the fabric, and during the cooking process, beautiful bright stars form in these places. Their size depends on the width of the clothespin.
Cooking. When the water begins to boil, you can proceed to the cooking process itself. Since we are dealing with chemicals, there is a risk of burns, so be sure to wear pre-prepared rubber gloves. Measure 250 ml (faceted glass) of whiteness using unused kitchen utensils and pour into hot but not boiling water. When boiling the solution into it, you can lower the jeans. Remember that the desired pattern will be obtained only with the correct twisting of the jeans, so you should very carefully place them in a container without damaging the fasteners.
Jeans are brewed for 15 minutes. But this figure can be adjusted up or down, depending on the desired intensity of clarification of the fabric.
During boiling, do not allow jeans to float to the surface. To do this, use a wooden spatula or special tongs for a semi-automatic washing machine.
Completion. Upon reaching the desired level of lightening the fabric, jeans should be removed from the pan and allowed to cool slightly. Next, thoroughly rinse the bleach from the product - for this, we rinse first in warm and then in cold water. Only after all the chlorine from the jeans comes out, they can be washed in a machine. When washing, it is advisable to use fabric softener to soften the fabric and give it a pleasant aroma. To finally get rid of the smell of chlorine, jeans must be dried in an open and well-blown place.

What to wear?
When boiled jeans appeared, there was no particular question about what to wear with them - they were worn with what was.Today, the situation has changed dramatically, and now these exclusive hand-made jeans can be included in a variety of ensembles.
The best option would be a combination of boiled jeans and tops. Since jeans are not business clothes, bright shades will be quite appropriate. But the color of the bottom in this image is combined, so the top must be selected monophonic. The exception is checkered shirts - in combination with jeans they will create a vivid image of a modern girl, free from stereotypes in fashion.
Jackets and cardigans will look great as outerwear with jeans. with a fitted silhouette. They will help to focus on jeans and stretch the figure, visually adding a few centimeters to your height. High-heeled shoes will give the same effect.
Remember that shoes and a jacket in combination with boiled jeans should be of a neutral shade and without patterns to avoid overloading the color in the image.
In fact, good dumplings are made a little differently.
To do this, you need a washing machine, a solution of potassium permanganate in an ordinary spray bottle, hydrogen peroxide, a lot of foam cubes, jeans themselves and a large basin. And the technology is as follows.
Soak the pants in warm water and after a while you need to lay out these pants on the table and use your fingers to form folds, as if squeezing the jeans.
After that, the wet pants are placed in a washer and dried by centrifuge.
Next, dried pants with fixed folds are sprinkled with foam cubes sprayed with potassium permanganate. It is necessary that this rotates in the drum of the washing machine without water for 10-15 minutes. Then the pants are placed in a strong pyrohydrol solution and rinse in running water according to the appearance of scuffs. The result is super.
