Thinking through the decor of the New Year's table, I want to make every thing beautiful and memorable, even bottles with alcoholic drinks. In this case, many masters use the decoupage technique, which allows you to quickly and easily add a festive mood to any item.
Features of the technique
Decoupage technique involves the creation of applications from various materials. As a rule, fabrics, napkins, twine and ribbons are used for this purpose.
If decoupage is used for thematic design, for example, New Year's, then various stickers, sparkles and sequins help decorate the item.
This technique is considered quite simple and subject to even novice masters.
The main components of decoupage are the coloring of the background and the gluing of napkins with drawings. To create a background, an acrylic paint of the required shade is poured into a plastic saucer. Putting it on the bottle is carried out using a foam brush or sponge for washing dishes. The color is applied to a dry glass surface by light pressure. It will take two to three hours to dry the paint, after which you can apply the following layers. Each layer is important to give the opportunity to dry.
Cutting out a picture from a napkin, we must not forget about the separation of the lower layers, which are not required. When gluing the image, the brush should lead from the center to its edges, smoothing the folds and eliminating bubbles. Some masters first apply glue to the underside of the pattern, then apply it to the bottle, and all from above are again treated with glue for a more stable fixation.
During work those parts that should not be soiled are recommended to be sealed with masking tape.
It is important to mention that a decoupage bottle should be handled as carefully as possible. The finished product performs a decorative function.
Unusual ideas
The design of the bottles for the New Year can be completely different and depends only on the imagination of the master. For example, picking up napkins with drawings on a beautiful blue background, painting the rest of the bottle in the same beautiful “winter” shade and adding all the snow-white details, you will get a very stylish, like ice decoration. Crumpled paper will allow you to make some parts of the image voluminous: the beard of Santa Claus, the edge of his suit and snow underfoot.
Such a decor with plenty of white is suitable for a classic bottle of champagne, which does not even have to draw up the upper golden part, as it successfully fits into the planned picture.
New Year's bottles will become a real work of art, if you additionally decorate them with artificial spruce branches and berries or full-fledged artificial floral arrangements with toys, balls and cones.
Another stylish solution will be the use of transparent rhinestones of various shapes and colors that mimic ice. The design of the wine bottle with the image of Santa Claus on a snow-white background can be completed by placing miniature Christmas hats in red with a white pompom on top.
In general, the addition of voluminous standard parts always transforms the craft. Alternatively, put a wooden fence made of flat boards at the bottom of the container, and secure the garland bulbs from the top.
Necessary tools
To perform the simplest decoupage of a bottle, a three-layer napkin or rice paper coated with the necessary image will be required as a base. Perhaps the use of cotton fabric. Fixing of materials is carried out using varnish, primer, alcohol or degreaser, as well as a foam sponge. If the decor is planned to be done in color, then you will have to prepare brushes and acrylic paints.
In the case of using heavy and complex materials, such as twine, scissors and a glue gun are additionally required.
Finally, do not forget about the details, for example, beads, ribbons and sparkles.
Surface preparation
Bottles for champagne or wine to be decorated must first be prepared. All paper stickers and excises are removed from the surface, after which it should be treat with medical alcohol or degreaser. Before decorating, the bottle is thoroughly wiped. The preparatory stage can also include a primer. It will turn out to be almost invisible under the picture, but it will create the necessary basis for further creativity.
To perform, it is recommended to purchase a special artistic primer, which is then applied with a foam sponge or an ordinary brush.
In the case when the consistency of the primer is very thick, it will turn out to be limited to one layer, but it’s better to duplicate the procedure so that the glass does not shine anywhere.
The first layer is made thin and the second thicker. It is important for the soil to be allowed to dry, but you can speed up the procedure by using a hairdryer.
To clean the container of stickers, it is much easier to pour warm water into the basin and place the bottle in it - after some time, all the labels will peel off themselves. Especially resistant instances will help to cope with a cotton pad soaked in vegetable or baby cosmetic oil.
For convenience, the product can also be applied to a household sponge, and at the end of the procedure, do not forget to rinse the bottle with dishwashing detergent.
Step-by-step instruction
To make your own decoupage bottles for the New Year, it is better to pick up a master class for beginners on the Internet, and then follow the steps step by step. To implement the simplest idea, you will need to first select a napkin with a beautiful thematic pattern and cut it out.
Professionals can simply pull it out with their bare hands. After the drawing is applied to the prepared bottle and coated with a special varnish. The image at this time is carefully smoothed so that there are no wrinkled fragments, and so that the napkin does not tear.
Varnishing continues until the image is completely saturated. If the borders are thus ugly highlighted, then they can immediately be corrected by applying a primer. Once the varnish dries, it's time to move on to the festive decor. For example, you can cover the bottle with sparkles or tie a ribbon of a suitable shade on it.
It will turn out to decorate the champagne bottle with a beautiful three-dimensional image. First, the fabric must be soaked in a mixture of water and PVA glue, taken in equal proportions. The fabric is kept in the liquid until it is saturated, after which, having pressed it a little, it should be placed on the bottle. It does not need to be tightly tightened - on the contrary, free folds and bends should be left. As soon as the fragment dries, it must be tinted with paints, the color of which will suit the drawing used further.
Again, as soon as the design dries, it will have to be decorated with a New Year's image, fixed with varnish. Additional decor is placed after the bottle has dried. Unusual work will turn out if you use burlap and twine. The twine on the prepared bottle is glued, following in a circle, with a glue gun or even PVA glue.
Motion it is better to start from the bottom, and not to allow spaces between the individual rows. When the glue dries, you can apply additional decor, for example, lace ribbons, braid, beads or beads.
There is another way to transfer the picture to the bottle. Cutting out the picture from the napkin, and freeing it from the lower white layers, you need to break off the edges around the entire perimeter, so that they more easily merge with the background. The paper is laid out with the drawing down on the file, and water begins to pour gently onto it. With a brush, all the bubbles are expelled, and the folds are straightened. After draining the excess water, the file with the picture should be turned over and attached to the bottle.
If everything is done correctly, the napkin will be fixed on the glass, and it will only be enough to eliminate the file and smear everything with glue for decoupage.
Small wrinkles remaining after drying can be eliminated with fine-grained sandpaper, and large ones can be masked using paints. The entire surface is fully varnished. Selecting acrylic paint in white, blue and black, you need to draw a background. Processing takes place with an almost dry dishwashing sponge.
To paint more accurately laid down, you can first moisten the surface a little. Using other shades, the drawing is brought to mind. The cork and top of the container should also be slightly toned. Optionally, using white paint and a toothbrush, you can create a "snow" spray. Having created one or two finishing varnish layers, you must again wait for the crafts to dry. Colored sparkles should highlight any fragments of the picture or contours. They also create a festive inscription.
To create a three-dimensional image, in addition to the basic materials, an acrylic structural paste, a knife and a toothpick will be required. A decoupage card with an image of a clock dial, balls, crackers and other festive motifs is suitable as the main image. The prepared bottle is painted in blue with a foam brush. An oval is drawn on a separate sheet of paper, matching the size of the large label. After cutting it and applying it to the surface of the bottle, you should apply structural paste to the contour.
After five minutes, the substance will dry out and the template can be removed using a toothpick. Next, the paste will have to dry for 3 to 4 hours. Images cut from a decoupage card are placed inside the volume contour, forming a harmonious composition. Glue them should be pre-wetted with water. The remaining parts of the container are painted white. Volumetric parts are covered with a light blue paint, applied in a thin layer.
Some details, for example, clock hands, can be distinguished using glitter. The work ends with the creation of the inscription "Happy New Year!" and snowflakes of different sizes made of gold acrylic.
Decoupage card greatly simplifies the process of creating a festive bottle. The surface fat-free with alcohol is covered with acrylic primer, after which it is painted over with a snow-white tone. From the map, the picture you like is either cut out with scissors or simply pulled out with your hands. The fragment is applied to the bottle and smeared with glue. To smooth the napkin should be from the center to the edges, to get rid of the bubbles. The transition from all sides is made out with the help of paint, overlapped on a napkin. The finished bottle is varnished with two layers of fixative.
For decoupage, by the way, you can use not only a full-fledged drawing, but also images of festive patterns with ribbons, balls and spruce branches. In this case, ornaments of the necessary shape are cut out of the napkin so that a white background remains between the individual parts. If the surface of the bottle is additionally painted in the same white color, the transition will be completely invisible. Images are glued using decoupage glue and a flat synthetic brush.
Some of the elements are highlighted with gold glitter.
