Montenegro is one of the countries of Southeast Europe, located on the territory of the Balkan Peninsula. Conventionally, this small state can be divided into three parts - the first part on the eastern side of the country is formed by mountainous areas, the second part is formed by the territory of the sea coast washed by the Adriatic Sea, and between these parts there is a central plain region.
The mainland line of the coast, belonging to Montenegro, occupies about 300 kilometers, but, besides this, the state also includes 14 small islands located in sea waters. The state is famous for its beaches, their total length is 70 km. The water in these parts is very clean and for 7 months a year it is in the range from 12 to 25-26 degrees heat. The climate in Montenegro is temperate continental, with warm long summers and short warm winters.
Description
The resort town of Petrovac is located on the seafront of the Budva Riviera, which is well known for its wonderful beaches. Montenegro is considered an environmentally friendly country.
A distinctive feature of this resort is that it has healing sea air. Around the city there are olive and pine groves, and exotic plants you will find everywhere - in the city grow tangerine trees, kiwi, figs, palm trees and oleanders. The resort is very well located in a small sea bay, where it is protected on both sides from cold winds and inclement weather by high mountains. Thanks to this location on the beach, a pleasant microclimate is created - the weather here is mostly warm, calm and sunny.
Petrovac belongs to the municipality of Budva, and the number of inhabitants inhabiting it ranges from 1500-2000 people. In the summer, the small town comes to life due to the influx of vacationers. On the territory of Petrovac there are two beaches - Lucice and Central City Beach. The distance between these beaches is 500 meters.
The territory of the city beach has a length of up to 600 meters, so at the very peak of the swimming season it is sometimes a bit crowded. The beach itself is sandy and pebble, the sand has a reddish hue, and pebble pebbles are small but sharp. The entrance to the water is smooth, without sudden changes, but after 3-5 meters the depth becomes large enough and for children it can be dangerous. The beach area is equipped with showers and changing rooms, here professional rescuers are constantly watching the swimmers from the tower.
Entrance to the beach is free, you have a choice - relax on your beach towel or rent a deck chair and an umbrella for about 10-15 euros. There is a car parking in front of the beach, and if you wish, for a small fee you can get the opportunity to drive directly to the beach by car and park there.
The line near the city beach is conveniently planned - there are cafes and restaurants, small shops and souvenir shops within walking distance. The well-equipped embankment runs along the seashore and rests against a small pier - from here you can go on a small voyage in a small boat and see other cities and beaches of Montenegro.
Relaxing on the beaches in Petrovac, you can enjoy water skiing, a catamaran, a hydro scooter and a banana.
Lucice Beach has a length of 200 meters. Although it is smaller, some vacationers love it more for the reason that the pebbles there are small in size and rounded in shape. During the summer season, there are much fewer vacationers on this beach. There are no large restaurants on the coastal territory, only small, but pleasant establishments in the form of a cafe. And if you order food or drinks in them, then you can be given a deck chair and an umbrella for free.
There are few hotels near this beach; it looks more quiet and secluded, in contrast to the noisy city beach. It is noteworthy that from this territory picturesque views of stone cliffs and the sea open. For the kids on the beach there is a playground and a water slide, which on the descent ends with a bowl of a small pool.
The Petrovac infrastructure includes a post office, a police station, a medical care center, several churches, a grocery market, a supermarket and many cafes and restaurants for every taste, there is even a night club within the walls of the old fortress. There are a lot of different hotels and villas, so the city is considered one of the most beautiful and well-groomed in the Budva Riviera.
There is a small old chapel in the sea on a small island located directly opposite the city, so in the mornings you can enjoy the pure and joyful sounds of the bell ringing.
Climate
Weather in the resort Petrovac has its advantages - about 300 days are sunny in a year. Even in the off-season, it is pleasant to be here and enjoy the clean air, the sun and beautiful sea views.

What to see?
There are more than beaches in Petrovac. If you like outdoor activities, then you will be interested in the sights of the city, which will be educational entertainment for both adult tourists and vacationers with children. Walking around the city, you will see how bizarre oaks and pines grow together next to palm trees.
First time visiting Petrovac, start exploring the city by walking along its famous 3 km long pedestrian road called the “health trail”. Walking slowly, you can breathe clean pine and sea air, heading to Rezhevichi. On your way you will find 3 pedestrian tunnels that pass inside the coastal cliffs. Feel free to go inside - the tunnels, although they have a long length, are well illuminated inside by electric lamps.
The Venetian fortress is a symbol of Petrovac. The time of the construction of the Castello fortress is considered the XVI century. In those days, these lands belonged to the Republic of Venice and the fortress housed barracks for the military, as well as warehouses for storing provisions.
According to historical data, in the basements of the fortress there were captive slaves who were being prepared for resale to European countries. Later, the fortress was used as a hospital where people infected with the plague were brought, and during the First World War there was a prison for the military in these walls.
Today this place is much more welcoming - the building rises above sea level, and, having risen on the walls of the fortress, you can see a beautiful view of the city itself, the central beach and Lucice.
It works inside the fortress Museum of Fine Arts, which contains rare ancient examples of Roman mosaics, paintings, and on the walls of the fortress there is a Byzantine medieval painting. The museum exhibits exhibits that date back to the 3rd century BC.
On the observation deck you will see a commemorative stella, which was built after the Second World War in honor of the soldiers who fell, protecting their homelands. Along the perimeter of the observation deck there were once guns aimed at the sea with a muzzle aimed at protecting the city from uninvited guests. Now only one of these guns remains in place.
On the territory of the Venetian fortress there is a large restaurant and the only Castello night club in the whole city, where noisy discos pass behind the thick walls of the building. This club is known throughout Montenegro, as there are performances by famous pop singers and popular DJs.
Quite often, the club holds so-called Russian parties, when Russian pop music is played all evening.
Monastery complex - Orthodox Gradiste, is located 4 kilometers from Petrovac and is considered one of the largest and most significant monasteries in all of Montenegro. This historical monument has 3 temples, a building with monastic cells and a cemetery.
In ancient chronicles Gradisht was mentioned already in the XIV century, but it was built much earlier, however, an exact definition of this period is no longer possible. The complex is not only a holy place, but also a collection of medieval exhibits of fresco painting.
Upon entering the territory you will be met St. Savva Cathedral, which has 3 belfries and a rare beauty carved iconostasis. The walls of the cathedral are lined with rows of red and white bricks. From the south on the walls all the murals are dedicated to Saints Sava and Simeon, and on the north side of the building the face of Mary of Egypt is depicted, popularly referred to as the “Small feeder”. Young women who have recently given birth to children bring here gifts in the form of olive oil and grapes so that with the help of holy mercy they have more breast milk for feeding the baby.
In the center of the monastery complex is located Church of St. Nicholaswhere besides the icons, all walls and ceilings are painted with ancient frescoes. Built near the cemetery small church in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Inside this church there are also old murals with the faces of saints.
Due to the proximity of Montenegro with warlike Turkey, the monastery complex was surrounded by a wall with loopholes for guns. Repeatedly, clergymen had to fight against the Turks, and one of the exhibits in Gradiste is the skull of a Turkish pasha, which is kept as a warning to all invaders.
At all times of its existence, until the Second World War, the monastery devoted a lot of effort and attention to the education of children who came to study from all around. Holy places suffered a lot during the First and Second World Wars. However, the cultural heritage of Montenegro was restored by contemporaries and today it is under the protection of UNESCO. Gradiste Monastery is today the current male holy monastery of the Orthodox community of Serbia.
Holy Week Island (translated into Russian the name of the island means "Holy Sunday") is visible from almost anywhere in the city when looking at the sea. At the very top of the rocky islet a small wooden chapel was built. According to an old local legend, residents of the city believe that it was built by a sailor who miraculously escaped on this island during a shipwreck and, in gratitude to the holy forces, erected this building with a bell.
During the earthquake in the late 70s, the chapel collapsed, but was restored again. Now this place is a sacred charm for all sailors and a favorite attraction for tourists. Boats and catamarans constantly approach the island with vacationers who go into the chapel and heartily ring the bell there.
The Rezhevichi monastery complex is a male Orthodox monastery located near the city of Petrovac at the foot of Mount Vostanica. The complex consists of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Church of the Holy Trinity, the buildings of male cells and farm buildings, and an old olive grove grows around the monastery.
According to historical data, the construction of the monastery was carried out in the XII century and it began with the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and later the rest of the buildings were also added - in particular, the church of St. Stephen was erected, which was subsequently lost during the battle with the Turks. Later, a new church of the Holy Trinity was erected in its place.
The walls of the churches are decorated with medieval frescoes, which are of value to all Orthodox.
The monastery complex was significantly damaged during the Second World War and the earthquake in the late 70s of the last century. After lengthy restoration work, the buildings were restored and are now protected by UNESCO.
The main values of this monastery are Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, created in the XVI century, Ritual Cross, created in the XVIII century, the Four Gospels of the XVIII century and the Preserver of the middle of the XIX century. Near the monastery is located observation deck in the form of terraces made of stone - This is a favorite place for newlyweds who are married in the temple and go here to admire the beautiful landscape.
