Initially, a watch is a device for measuring time. Now it’s not only a stylish accessory and a way to highlight your own personality and social status, but also a multi-functional assistant in working with time.

A bit about the clock

It would seem that with the advent of advanced phones and other electronic devices that have a time display on the display, the need for a wristwatch disappears - but this is not so. Although now there are many companies creating inexpensive watches, a huge number of people prefer expensive ones, wanting to show others their social status.

Some accessory manufacturers call this product a pleasure rather than a watch for time. And often he appears as an expensive gift. But still, we are seeing more and more improvements, more and more trends, more and more technologies affecting the usefulness of ordinary wrist watches that are familiar to us. And the watches with a chronograph are the most popular and discussed now.

Features

In the modern sense, a chronograph (other Greek: chronos “time” + grapho “write”) is a counter that allows you to extremely accurately measure, record a time interval and save data. This intricate device appeared in the first half of the 19th century and was used mainly in horse racing. At the end of the second hand of the first device for recording the length of time, an inkwell was placed, which made a mark on the dial when the mechanism stopped.

The frequency of today's chronograph is measured in unit vph (vibtarion per hour - the number of vibrations per hour), and today the most common frequency is 28,800 vph. Based on this, it becomes easy to find out how many vibrations are obtained in seconds. If you divide 28,800 vph by the total number of seconds per hour, you get 8.

So the chronograph, whose frequency of operation is 28,800 vph, is capable of measuring a period of time with an accuracy of 1/8 second.

Using it is simple - with the buttons built into the watch case. The number of buttons depends on the model - more modern (split chronographs) have more. However, using a one-button mechanism is inconvenient to use, because it starts and stops, and resets only one.

Models

Modern split-chronographs, having two hands located one below the other, are able to do several tasks at the same time. With a split chronograph, it becomes easy to measure the duration of several events that, for example, started at the same time, and ended at different times, or going one after another.

There is another model, the feature of which is the instant restart function, it is called fly-back and is used for measurements that do not have gaps between the values.

The design of chronographs can also be different. In stores you will find models with a variety of scales (tachymetric, capable of measuring how fast an object is moving, telemetric, measuring sound distance, logarithmic scale, and others).

It is known that a chronograph watch can be either mechanical or quartz. Quartz can even emit a signal when time is running out, unless, of course, the chronometer has a function for indicating the interval.

Combined models are also available for sale, combining, for example, a conventional chronograph and a tachymeter scale. Such a device is very convenient, because it allows you to both track the speed of the object, and time tracking.

There is no particular difference between men's and women's watches - men's watches can be larger and usually dark or gray, and women's watches are lighter and can be decorated with precious stones. When choosing the color of the product, the preference of the customers most often falls on neutral or gentle, dim colors, so that the device fits any image and complements it.

The following video will tell you more about what a chronograph is and how to use it:

Who is using?

The chronograph is widely used. It is necessary for those people who need time control. Many customers who buy watches do not even know why this device is needed in them, and yet it is incredibly useful even in everyday life. Most often, they, like stopwatch, are used by sports fans, but unlike a stopwatch, the chronograph does not affect the operation of the main device, but is an addition.

They use it at business meetings, and waiting for the courier with pizza, and preparing a complicated dish, and riding a bicycle.

Often, when doing everyday tasks, we are faced with the need to measure time, but we don’t even think about how useful at this moment a chronograph designed specifically for counting seconds, minutes, hours. This device perfectly helps in the work of both the military and the doctor and teacher.

Perhaps, a watch with a chronograph will make you treat this device in a special way, and you will include it in your daily life along with a drop of cologne. Of course, such a watch is an excellent life assistant and a universal gift.

When choosing a product, you must first make sure that you will use the mechanism that you have learned so much about now, because the dial equipped with a chronograph is slightly larger and heavier than a regular one.

It is important to note that the repair of such a most complicated and almost eternal mechanism is very expensive.

So, we have learned in general terms what a chronograph is, how it works and why it is needed in a watch, and your task is to choose a suitable model for yourself and enjoy the purchase! However, be prepared for the increased interest of others around you and do not get carried away very much with chronograph research, because who knows, suddenly these easy experiments will one day turn into a manic idea!
