A beginner's snorkel (breathing device) for scuba diving is not an extremely necessary item. It is required when you have decided to enrich your own knowledge of underwater life, for a comfortable pastime in the underwater space, since it makes it possible not to fully float to the surface in order to gain air into the lungs. You must be aware that the tube is not intended for immersion at significant depths. It is designed for swimming under water directly at its surface.

Features

Before you purchase and start using a breathing device for swimming, you need to know its device and features. A good quality accessory is invariably distinguished by the presence of a fixing system in the form of a plastic clip or a rubber ring. In some models, you can insert a breathing device without a latch directly under the mask belt, however, this option is risky. So that the breathing device is cleaned well, in its structure there are drainage valves that operate as follows: bleed water and air out and do not allow water to return.

Modifications with a similar device may apply. for snorkeling and hunting under water. The swimmer only needs to hold the device in the oral cavity and breathe. When diving, the remaining fluid from the breathing device is removed. The presence of such a valve in the tube can become an obstacle to diving adherents: due to a more thorough immersion, elements of aquatic plants can get into the drainage area - it is unlikely that you will have a desire to blow them out of the device after immersion.

Nevertheless, some professional divers are not too concerned about this imperfection, and despite all this they practice modifications with a drainage system for water drainage. The drainage device can be placed both below the mouthpiece and sideways.

These devices are equipped with a valve for air discharge in one direction, which is a disk-type device - a similar structure makes a simpler procedure for removing water.

Kinds

Breathing tubes are practiced when hunting under water, snorkeling, diving, as well as in the pool. When purchasing a device, take into account for what tasks it will be used.

Simple tube (without drainage)

The most ingenuous and, as a rule, inexpensive sample. It has a very extensive area of use among analogues. Such devices are usually practiced. experienced swimmers since powerful lungs are needed to purge from the fluid that filled it.

Advantages:

  • low price;
  • extensive area of use (snorkeling, underwater fishing, diving).

Minuses:

  • to blow from the water, you need a powerful breathing apparatus;
  • for beginners, this device will be difficult to use.

With bottom valve

The most common modification, operated by both beginners and professional swimmers. The drain valve is located at the bottom of the swim pipe. By structure, it is a check valve type. It contributes to the rapid elimination of fluid by simply exhaling into the respiratory device. In addition, a wave breaker can be placed at the top of the tube, which removes water from dropping and dropping inside when diving into a strong wind or during small waves.

Advantages:

  • simple operation (ideal for beginners);
  • extensive use (snorkeling, fishing underwater, diving).

Minus - with enhanced breathing, the air partially breaks through the lower valve into the reservoir, a specific grunting sound spreads, frightening the fish, which is unfavorable for fishing underwater.

Dry tube (breathing device with two valves)

2-valve devices, as a rule, are practiced by beginners in snorkeling or hunters underwater in the winter (to exclude contact of icy water with teeth). There is a drain valve in the lower area of the device, and a shut-off valve in the upper area. The shut-off valve is a simple device, something like a float on the top of the tube, which when diving, it rises and prevents fluid from flowing into the breathing apparatus.

Advantages:

  • the liquid does not penetrate;
  • ease of use (ideal for beginners).

Minuses:

  • aquatic plants or sand are able to get into the structure of the shutoff valve, which negatively affect the functionality of the device;
  • it is impossible to dive to a depth of more than 2 meters, since a vacuum is formed in the cavity of the tube, which provokes the absorption of the tongue into the cavity of the respiratory device.

Front pipe

For sports swimming in the pool, it is advisable to purchase a breathing apparatus not with a lateral but a frontal arrangement in relation to the face. Manufacturers of swimming sports equipment produce such devices directly for the training of swimmers.

Advantage - the use of a frontal device for breathing lowers the resistance of the liquid medium, which makes it possible to increase the swimming speed and reduces the vibration of the tube. Minus is a narrow area of use.

Criterias of choice

If you decide to purchase a breathing device, you need to decide on the purpose of its purchase. Whether you go scuba diving or just swimming. You need to choose the right tube for a specific direction in swimming. In addition, for children there are specialized tubes of a smaller size and the lightest.

If your calling is diving, the breathing apparatus curved in the outlines of your face is best suited. It is advisable to take an average one in diameter, since an overly narrow tube will not allow you to fully breathe, and a device with a large diameter increases the amount of water that needs to be blown out of it.

In addition, the use of these tubes leads to an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide entering the lungs.

The most suitable respiratory device is approximately 40 centimeters from bend to end. It should be equipped with a valve for quietly blowing it away from dirt and grains of sand, as well as liquid. Disc valves are located at the bottom and center of the tube, ball valves at the end.

A mouthpiece is a part of a breathing device inserted between lips and teeth. It should be made of soft rubber. Such a tube is more comfortable to use. The mouthpiece should not be a factor in jaw fatigue, it should be comfortable and very simple to keep it in the oral cavity. The tube must be held firmly to the mask by means of straps. This will reduce the burden on the jaw.

How to use?

First you need to properly install the handset. Wear a mask. After you take the breathing apparatus into your mouth and hold the mouthpiece with your teeth. Now you need to adapt to it. Enter the water, stretch out on the surface, lower your face and try to breathe.

At first, a slight lack of air is likely. Therefore, it is necessary to rise and breathe a little without a tube. This should be repeated until fully adapted to adaptation and personal feelings. If water enters the device, it must be blown out. Using the handset, the main thing is not to be nervous and remember that at any time you can get up and remove the device. After use, the accessory must be washed and dried, put into the case.
