Fish are, of course, wonderful, they are very beautiful and playful creatures. However, in the aquarium you can keep not only them, but also many interesting inhabitants. One of the striking examples of such an inhabitant is a frog. What kind of "beast" is this and how to properly care for it - let's figure it out.

Description of species

Essentially frogs that can act as pets, there are only two types.

  • Xenopus. It has an alternative name "Spur frog".
  • Hymenochirus, and if you call it easier, then a "dwarf frog."

Both of these species can very easily be bred under certain conditions. It is very important to be able to correctly distinguish between such representatives.

Most often you will find these creatures planted together in one large aquarium, but to distinguish them is quite simple.

  • An albino, or literally a white frog with red eyes, is Xenopus. This species was developed by Russian scientists specifically for research in laboratories.
  • If you notice gray, brown spots or even olive shades of skin, be sure - in front of you is a dwarf frog.

One of the main differences between a dwarf frog is its size, which does not exceed 4 centimeters. In the case of a decorative albino frog, its size can reach even 12 centimeters, and this one will most likely have membranes on its legs. That is why distinguishing the type of pet you need from another popular species will not be a difficult task.

Relations with fish and plants

If you want to get yourself a white aquarium frog, then you should consider that it is just insanely active, and you should be prepared for this in advance. If there are any other inhabitants in the aquarium, then they cannot be settled together with such a representative of amphibians, since he loves to chase fish throughout the space. Another possible option - the latter will be eaten, and at first you may not even notice it.

That is, albinos definitely should not be in the aquarium with home fish, since these frogs really like meat and therefore can absorb a good part of your aquarium inhabitants. In addition, the frog is incredibly active, and therefore the soil will be dug up, and the water will become cloudy very quickly, which is often painful for most types of fish.

However, there is information about the beneficial properties of mucus, which is released by albino - it has antibacterial properties and can cure an ill fish. Only in this case, it is worth placing the unfortunate creature in the water, where the frog sat for some time, but do not combine these two creatures. Otherwise, you risk simply driving the already sick fish.

Due to the playfulness of frogs, you most likely will not be counted on some, or maybe all, plants in the aquarium. These "blondes" are very fond of digging holes, tearing plants and dragging them around the tank.

Care and maintenance

You will need to take care of the habitat of such creatures regularly, because because of their nature, white frogs often dig soil, which causes clouds of sand in the water. But not one of their representatives is pretentious to the conditions of detention, and therefore you can safely keep them in any aquarium, but preferably with a volume of at least 20 liters.

For so that your residents feel comfortable, do not fill the aquarium with water completely - you should leave a little oxygen.

The best option would be to fill the container by two-thirds.

Closing the aquarium from above is highly desirable, as its very active residents can jump out. Pebbles should be put at the bottom, pebbles will be the best option. Water will need to be filtered, but just do not create too much current, otherwise the frogs will be uncomfortable to swim. As for lighting, there are no preferences in this regard, it is not necessary to have bright light sources.

About the water temperature: quite similar in the room. In this case, the ideal would be about 23 degrees. If you collect water from the tap, then you must defend it in advance for about 3 days. Change this water at least once a week for a quarter of the total.

If you plan to plant plants, then use only pots, because, as already mentioned, if you try to plant directly in the ground, the frogs will immediately dig out everything. You can also put pots with plants next to the aquarium, and dip only small areas into the water.

So the water will not be quickly polluted, and no harm will be done to the plant.

What to feed?

The white frog is very fond of live food. It can be both worms and daphnia. Sometimes pets can be fed meat food, cut into small pieces.

How can they get sick?

Like any living thing, a white frog can "catch" some kind of disease.

  • First of all, your funny and active resident can get parasites. They make the skin rough, thin. In addition, it will peel off, and the pet will begin to hurt and lose weight.
  • A fungus may appear on the frog. Most often, it begins with a sore on the skin, but then it can grow to the whole body.
  • Bacterial infections are possible, which will cause bruising on the body.
  • The most surprising of all the misfortunes is the bloating of the toad. This is called dropsy, from a similar ailment a creature can even become round.
  • If conditions are not suitable for keeping these animals, they may become obese.

It is necessary to get rid of such diseases by means that are used to treat fish of a tropical climate. The main thing is to choose the right drug so that it is specially from fungi, parasites or bacteria. If we talk about dropsy, then you can just pierce the skin.

The sick frog should be separated from the rest and only then, in quarantine, treatment should be carried out.

In any case, even with these possible options, the creature itself is quite stable, and recovery will come quickly.
