Biography
Christy Turlington was a member of the so-called Great Six supermodels of the 1990s. Together with her, this company included Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Elle Macpherson. And, probably, it’s not a mystery to anyone why exactly Tarlington is the most popular among women on this list. Exemplary wife, model mother, successful business woman. Not many manage to get to the pinnacle of success and fame, not to break with it, not to lose oneself. Christy was lucky - she behaved very dignified and preserved her face in the insidious world of show business.
Childhood
The future supermodel was born on the second day of 1969. Christie's dad was a pilot from Pan-Am airline, and my mother, as it would be logical to assume, was a stewardess in the same company. From a young age, Tarlington went in for sports, which was actively encouraged by her parents. They strongly welcomed any hobby of the girl, one of the most passionate of which was horseback riding. It was this passion that subsequently led the young Christie Turlington to the modeling business.
Here is how it was. The young athlete had very good success in horse riding, she trained a lot, participated in various competitions. At some point, this sport was completely consumed by Tarlington, so she went to the hippodrome every day - she spent all her free time on training. And maybe the world would soon find out about her as a famous horsewoman. But the will of fate decreed otherwise.
A frequent visitor to the hippodrome - photographer Danny Cody - saw the potential of a model in young Christie. And although 13-year-old Tarlington flatly refused to try herself in this matter, her parents still persuaded her to go to a modeling school. They themselves, too, initially resisted the onslaught of Cody, who began to literally pursue them and paint the chic prospects of their daughter. But the photographer was so convincing that in the end, his parents succumbed to persuasion, and Christy Turlington signed her first contract with a local modeling agency.
Career model
Oddly enough, at first, Christy took her new occupation without much enthusiasm. The girl considered the contract with a modeling agency only as a way to earn money, which she planned to invest in further activities with her favorite sport. In particular, Tarlington dreamed of buying her own horse.
But the first steps of Christie in the modeling business were very successful, so she soon fell in love with this work. Until graduation, a young star of this business went to the shooting in the evenings after classes. And as soon as she turned 18, Christie moved from Walnut Creek's hometown, in the state of California, to New York. Here, the girl very quickly managed to get a contract with one of the most famous and successful agencies around the world - Ford Models.
It was 1987. As soon as she began her ascent, Tarlington got on the cover of Italian Vogue, and at the same time the best photographers in the world wanted to work with her. Christie became famous, and soon very wealthy: in 1989, the girl began her many years of cooperation with giants such as Calvin Klein and Maybelline.
In addition to participating in fashion shows and photo shoots for popular magazines, Tarlington also turned up other interesting work in show business. For example, in 1990, Christie starred in a video clip with George Michael Freedom, a song that was popular at the time, along with Cowford, Campbell, and Evangelista.
But after only 4 years, being literally on top of the world, Christy Turlington decided to leave the model world. At the age of 25, the model for the first time in her life encountered dissatisfaction with her appearance. And the reason for this was a sharp increase in weight. At that time, the girl decided to once and for all engage in such a addiction as smoking. And these abrupt changes affected the figure of the model.
Strengthened the determination of the model to leave her career and her conservative views. Of course, it was too early to talk about the decline of youth. But faced with the first serious changes in the figure and with the subsequent cooling down to her person in a professional environment, the girl realized that it would only get worse. But Tarlington is one of the few models in the modern world that is an ardent opponent of plastic surgeries and other methods of artificially maintaining beauty.
At that turning point, Tarlington decided to take up her education. The next 4 years, the girl devoted to the study of religion and philosophy - it was in these two specialties in 1999 that Christie received two bachelor's degrees at once.
Charity
In search of harmony with herself and with the world around her, Tarlington came to the realization that her stunning success, which brought her enormous fees, could serve her hand spiritually. At some point, Christie began spending round sums on charity. She allocated not only money for good deeds, but also the lion's share of her time.
A serious reason to think about health (both his own and those around him) was for Tarlington the tragic death of her father - in 1997 he died of lung cancer. This loss encouraged the model to participate in the anti-tobacco program.
Christy Turlington also actively supports the El Salvador Foundation for Assisting Poor People in Central America. Christie knows firsthand the fate of disadvantaged people in this state - her mother is a native of Salvador.
Another area of Christie Turlington's charitable work is the promotion of funds saving rare animals. She is also an active participant in all kinds of actions of the organization Peta. For example, starred in photo shoots dedicated to supporting the protest against the extermination of fur animals for fur.
Often, various brands attract many well-known models to charity events. So, the Lindex brand for one of these projects invited Christie Tony Garrn and Leah Kebede, also known for their active charitable activities, to participate.
Three world-famous beauties starred in a commercial dressed in white t-shirts with the inscription “#super role model” (“super role model”) - it was a call to take an example from supermodels and join in good deeds.
These t-shirts later went on sale, and all the proceeds for them were sent to charities run by Tarlington, Kebede, and Garrn.
Christy Turlington Foundation “Every Mom Counts”
At the beginning of the new millennium, Christie began to support women's health, in particular - mothers. Soon, Christy herself became a mother: in 2003 she had a daughter, Grace, and in 2006 - her son Finn. But more on that later ...
Christy Turlington made her own documentary called No Woman, No Cry. His goal was to study the quality of maternal health in different countries - from prosperous states to the "lagging" Guatemala, Bangladesh, Tanzania, El Salvador.
Tarlington was prompted by thoughts of such an activity, again, his own sad experience. The first birth of the model had complications, after which many women around the world die. But Christie was helped by qualified hospital staff. Then she began to think more and more often about the fate of pregnant women from poor countries, where the level of health care is much lower and similar births with a high percentage probability are fatal.
The film No Woman, No Cry was released in America and many European countries in 2010, and over the past few years, Christie’s efforts in poor countries have begun to improve markedly. In the same year, Tarlington founded the Every Mother Counts fund, and all the money collected through it was sent to provide medical care to pregnant women and mothers in third world countries.
In this project, Christie is supporting the IMEDEEN® brand. The brand engaged in the production of face and body skin care products regularly makes large donations to the model's foundation. By the way, Tarlington soon after the start of this collaboration became the face of IMEDEEN®.

The process of preparing delicious dishes is another way to relieve stress for a supermodel. And although you can always order ready-made meals at home, Christy prefers to cook herself. She has no doubt that a healthy diet is the key to good health and a beautiful appearance. And she herself is a vivid proof of her own beliefs.
