It is hard to imagine a modern bathroom without a mirror. This is a necessary accessory for all family members. Many of us are familiar with the unpleasant situation when, after taking a bath or shower, we urgently need to put ourselves in order before an important meeting or not to be late for work, but in a fogged mirror with water smudges, reflection is practically not visible. It is simply impossible to do hygienic and cosmetic procedures with such a mirror.

Reasons for fogging

A bit of physics. Warm air in the bathroom, saturated with water vapor, comes in contact with a colder mirror surface and is partially cooled. When the dew point temperature is reached, condensation forms and water droplets settle on the mirror, dripping down the glass.

To see a clear reflection in the mirror, you will have to wait a while or take urgent measures - wipe it dry with a napkin, dry the surface with a hairdryer, and arrange a strong through ventilation. But many methods have been known for a long time how to prevent fogging of mirror surfaces using special means. There are folk remedies against fogging glasses.

How to prevent?

Ways to solve this long-standing problem are different in nature and degree of effectiveness, but are quite suitable for domestic use. All options are economical, do not require significant expenses. Let's consider some of them.

  • Glycerol. Absolutely harmless, inexpensive, odorless product, which is sold in pharmacies without restrictions. If you rub the mirror with a microfiber cloth moistened with glycerin, then a film forms on the glass, which does not allow drops of moisture to linger on its surface.
  • Car anti-fog glass. This is a technical fluid intended for the maintenance of car windows and mirrors, it can very well be used for processing mirror surfaces in bathrooms. This treatment method must be carried out every week (according to the instructions supplied with the tool).
  • Shampoo of any kind. On a dry, clean mirror, apply a little shampoo and rub it evenly with a soft cloth so that there are no stains. You should not take a lot of shampoo so that the grinding does not drag on for too long, since the excess product will be "smeared" on the mirror surface. Instead of shampoo, you can take cream or shaving foam and do the same procedure. The mirror will not “sweat” for 2-3 weeks.
  • A solution of vinegar. Dissolve 5 tablespoons of 9% vinegar (not essence!) In 0.5 l of hot water, apply with a napkin to the mirror, but do not wipe dry, but leave to dry. The unpleasant smell of vinegar will disappear in an hour. You can slightly change the composition of the solution: mix vinegar and hot water in equal parts and add a little lemon juice to the mixture. Such a solution will not smell unpleasant. The effect will last 2 weeks.
  • In 100 ml of water you need to dissolve 2 teaspoons of dry gelatin, wait a little while it swells. Wipe the mirror with the resulting mixture. A thin film will prevent condensation from building up on the glass.
  • Glass cleaner and soap. First you need to treat the mirror with a glass cleaner, and then apply it to the strips with a regular piece of laundry soap and gently rub them on the surface to a thin invisible film. The effect will last about a week.

These simple methods are based on obtaining a protective film on a mirror surface, which prevents water droplets from settling on the glass and well preserves the functionality of the mirror.

Technical methods

It should be noted that the above methods give a temporary effect. So that the mirror does not sweat, you can solve this problem in another way.

  • If you mount a mirror heater, then moisture will not condense on a warm surface, since the “dew point” will never come. A special heating device is mounted on the rear side of the mirror and connected to a household power network. In modern models, heating is combined with lighting, which is very convenient for men when shaving, for women when applying makeup. The installation location of the outlet must be thought out in advance.
  • Buy an inexpensive local fan, if there is not enough money. It can be turned on to blow the mirror. This will also produce a good effect, because the power consumption of the device is minimal.
  • Improve the ventilation system in the bathroom. To do this, a special exhaust electric fan is mounted in the ventilation opening, which, if necessary, is turned on and forcibly creates amplified air currents that carry water vapor from the room along with unpleasant odors.
  • Install a shower, then water vapor will not fill the bathroom, but will remain inside the cabin. The shower cabin will not only allow you to get a never-fogging mirror, but also solve the problem of splashing water, and make the entire bathroom room more comfortable. However, not everyone will agree to refuse to take baths and use only a shower, here everyone will do according to their preferences.

Of course, these are costly and time-consuming measures compared to simple methods, but the problem will be solved radically. In any case, the choice is yours.
