The bathroom is a place where you want comfort and warmth anywhere else, because if it has a feeling of cold and inconvenience, then you don’t have to wait for any pleasure from taking water procedures. Excessive decor in it is not needed, but functionality is needed.

One of the main components of a comfortable bathroom is a tile, because it retains its properties in conditions of high humidity.

Black tile is a modern and stylish solution for bathroom decor. Modern manufacturers offer a large number of design options and layout of tile segments.

Material requirements

Finishing material for bathrooms is a special category of building material, because these rooms have specific microclimatic conditions. There is room for a contrast shower - and then the material must withstand the test not only by humidity, but also by the temperature difference, and for a hot bath, the steam from which acts on the tile and the joints between it.

There are certain requirements for tiles. The ideal tile for the bathroom:

  • does not slip even when wet, thereby minimizing the risk of falling and getting injured;
  • It does not give in to the destructive effects of household chemicals, it can be washed without risk of damage;
  • does not absorb moisture and does not swell under its influence, otherwise the segments will lose their original appearance, peel off from the wall;
  • all segments are even, have the same size and shape, they can be laid out not only the floor, but also the walls, and the surface of the ceiling, if the need arises;
  • It has high strength indicators - a strong surface, not subject to mechanical stress and temperature changes.

Advantages and disadvantages

If we talk about the advantages of black tiles in the bathroom, we can distinguish the following:

  • stylish appearance;
  • ease in leaving;
  • lack of need for additional decor, as the black color is self-sufficient.

    Cons are also available, and quite substantial.

    • The cost of tiles is high, this applies to products of any manufacturers - both foreign and domestic. Most expensive is a tile made of natural material - stone, glass, marble. This also applies to hexagonal hexagonal tiles and mosaics.
    • Installation of the tile will also cost a pretty penny, because the more expensive the tile, the higher the likelihood that you will need to contact specialists to lay it out.
    • If this is not done, then most likely the seams will be visible. This does not apply only to “honeycombs”, as their layout assumes the integrity of the canvas and at the same time the visibility of the joints. It is logical that the smaller the segments of your tile, the more seams will be, and the more noticeable they will be.

    When choosing a black tile (as, indeed, any other), you need to consider such notations as anti-slip marking and chemical resistance. Both indicators should be the highest - this means that the tile is of high quality. To finish the floor, it is better to stay on the tile, which has a rough surface and a matte shade.

    What is a quality tile?

    There are a number of signs by which you can identify the quality of the tile.

    • In appearance. The color must be uniform, otherwise we can talk about the marriage of the product. The surface should be clean, free of chips and scratches.
    • In shape. All angles should be the same in degree of angle, and the faces of the segments should be equal in length. The slightest deviation means that laying such a tile will not be easy, the seams will be uneven.
    • On the plane. If the changes are small, then there is nothing to worry about, small deviations are permissible. However, the more such deviations, the more difficult it will be to make the surface of the calculation even. To check the deviation, it is enough to attach two segments to each other and evaluate the size of the formed gaps. If they exceed 1 mm, you should refrain from buying.

    You need to remember that the more fashionable option you choose, for example, black mosaic, hexagonal honeycombs or glossy black squares with gold plating, the less budget your purchase will be. You should always choose a manufacturer with a high business reputation.

    Shape and size

    Once upon a time there was only a square tile on the market, but today the buyer has plenty to choose from. Speaking about only one black version of the design, we can distinguish:

    • square ceramic tiles;
    • rectangular ("boar" or "metro");
    • a hex having six angles;
    • mosaic of different shapes and sizes.

    Making any room tiled has become much easier due to the fact that Each manufacturer produces collections where you can compose the final options, based on your taste and properties of the room. Standard bathrooms rarely have a large area, so modules with a face of 600 mm in them will be difficult to lay out. But you shouldn’t “grind it”, especially on the floor - small segments will give a huge number of joints, and the final version will not look aesthetically pleasing.

    Also note that the more textured segments your tile has (for example, imitating quilted fabric), the more it will narrow the space. If the bathroom is already cramped, it is better to choose ordinary flat ceramics.

    Mosaic layouts are very fashionable, look extremely impressive, like hexagonal honeycombs, from which you can create a composition on the walls and floor. Hexagon is suitable even for the smallest bathroom (of course, segments should be chosen in a standard size).

    How to care for black tiles?

    Despite the fact that black tile is easy to launder, caring for it takes a considerable amount of time. Contrary to popular belief on a dark surface, any pollution, even the smallest, is much better noticeable. Therefore, in order for the bathroom to maintain an aesthetic appearance, it is necessary to wash the tiles very often.

    For those who are not ready to constantly engage in cleaning, there is an excellent solution: a combination of two colors. White, light gray or beige color can be laid out the walls or that part of them, which are most in contact with water, soap, shampoo and other means. And the floor and the lower part of the walls are contrasted in black.

    To level the effect of visual reduction of space when using a dark tile, you can make mirrored ceilings in the bathroom. This will visually increase the height and make the room more voluminous. True, you need to take into account that caring for them is not easy, because from the influence of steam they mist and become cloudy.

    If you still decide to make the entire bathroom black, you will have to take care of purchasing special tools that form a film on the modules and can protect them from dust and stains. However, this does not mean that the bathroom will have to be cleaned much less - the constant presence of moisture and steam on the surface will still leave marks and noticeable limescale.

    For walls, it is better to stay on matte textures. A glossy surface requires many times more efforts to maintain cleanliness - if you do not do this regularly, the gloss will disappear, and it will not be easy to wash the tiles from plaque.
