Experienced dog breeders know that miniature dogs of decorative breeds can become not only a “manual decoration”, but faithfully serve the owner for many years. One of the most popular breeds is the Russian Toy Terrier. These are small, but hardy and dexterous dogs. The special love of dog breeders was won by chocolate mini-terriers.

About the breed

Russian toy terriers are descended from their English relatives. The latter ceased to breed in the 20s of the last century. However, in the mid-50s of the last century, Russian breeders set about restoring this amazing breed. It was possible to officially register the Russian toy terrier in 2008.

Small, nimble dogs were distinguished by mobility and dexterity. They did a great job with the role of rodent hunters. Despite their miniature size, toychiks are great friends and devoted companions. They love to fool around with small household members and can play with their favorite toy for hours. Russian toy terrier is not afraid of fear and boldly throws himself into battle with a large opponent. Puppies are very trained and instantly remember a large number of teams.

Important! The psyche of decorative pets is rather weak, so toy terriers should not be left alone for a long time. Away from the owner, the dog will be sad and may become ill.

Appearance

Lovely creatures are ideal for living in a city apartment. Street living conditions are too harsh for them. The characteristic features of Russian toy terriers include the following:

  • muscular body of a square shape;
  • wedge-shaped head, muzzle pointed;
  • erect ears and a tight tail (stop at a "tender" age);
  • developed limbs;
  • expressive eyes.

Russian mini-terriers are smooth-haired and long-haired. The first resemble charming deer.

Short fur fits snugly and glistens beautifully in the sun. In long-haired individuals, the body is decorated with wavy hairs (not more than 5 cm). The ears are covered with a long spectacular fringe.

The lifespan of decorative four-legged friends is 12-15 years. It all depends on care and a balanced diet. The growth of dogs varies from 19 to 26 cm, weight - not more than 3 kg. And also there are supermini and dwarf toys. The snooty “boys” are larger than the calm and affectionate females. The latter are easy to train and strongly attached to the owner.

Important! At first glance, the animals look very fragile and delicate creatures. However, dogs are very mobile and active. They love to be curious about new places and objects.

Color

Breed standard implies the following fur colors:

  • ginger;
  • black and red;
  • chocolate;
  • blue.

Dogs with brown hair won special love of breeders. Animals with a uniform coat color are quite rare, most often chocolate-colored puppies are born with a tan (light marks are located on the face, chest and legs of the animal).

Toddlers look very cute and resemble plush toys. Brown-tan adult dogs successfully participate in exhibitions.

In addition to chocolate and tan, they also distinguish dark red and white-brown colors. In the first case, the base of the hairs of the hair is painted in a saturated orange color, and the tips have a dark tone. Chocolate dogs with white markings on their paws and chest are standard and are not considered defective. Note that pets with brown hair, having a minimum number of bright spots, already belong to the tan color. Chocolate coloring of animal hair has an inherent palette of shades. Color can be dark (bitter) or, conversely, light (milky). Black and brown tones and coffee with milk are also found.

Tanning can also have different shades: from dark red to light yellow.

The advantages of color include its brightness and spectacular appearance. Brown toi will not get lost on a walk, and wool has the ability to "play" in the sun with amazing glare. However, ticks and damage are not visible on dark fur. After each walk, the pet must be carefully inspected. According to experts, mini-terriers with brown hair are monogamous. They instantly become attached to the owner and faithfully serve him throughout his life. Chocolate toy terriers are beautiful and elegant pets.

How to care?

Miniature dogs unpretentious in leaving.

  • First of all, the breeder must take care of the availability of a cozy place and tray. It is known that representatives of this breed are easily accustomed to the home toilet.
  • Dark hair for animals must be combed thoroughly. For smooth-haired, it is enough to comb 1-2 times a week with a comb with hard bristles. As for their brothers with a long "head of hair", for them this procedure will take place more often. Koltuny need to be cut in time. For washing, special shampoos are suitable, including dry ones.
  • Particular attention to the breeder of miniature dogs is important to focus on hygiene of the ears and eyes. Ears are cleaned with cotton buds once every two days. Special drops are suitable for the eyes, which can be easily purchased at any pet store.
  • Pet's teeth should be cleaned regularly with special powders or paste. Also suitable are hydrogen peroxide and soda. It is enough to wet a piece of gauze with a solution and clean the pet's oral cavity.

For the chocolate coat of the animal to be thick and shiny, the diet of the animal must be varied and balanced. Russian toy terriers are fed with natural products and premium industrial feed for decorative breeds. The nutrition of an adult dog consists of products such as:

  • low-fat fresh meat (except pork);
  • dairy products;
  • chicken and quail eggs (mainly yolks);
  • boiled vegetables and fresh fruits;
  • sea fish and cabbage.

Pets should not be given sweets or smoked products.

And also it is worth to refrain from bones. The baby may choke and die. These animals are quite voracious, so a meal should be dosed.

Puppies eat up to 5 times a day, an adult dog is enough to eat twice a day. Russian toy terriers are prone to diseases of the eyes, bones and teeth. The breeder must regularly show the pet to the veterinarian.
