The Beaver Yorkshire Terrier is a small decorative puppet-looking doggie, pretty, smart and friendly. The breed is young, she is just over 30 years old. Over the years, hilarious crumbs have pleased many of their owners and contributed positively to their lives.

Origin

In 1984, German breeders named Beaver in the Yorkshire litter had puppies with an unusual color for this species. A mutation responsible for the white color occurred and white spots were found in the babies. The owners liked the manifestation of the unusual pigment, they decided to fix it in subsequent generations. After four years of hard selection work, in 1988, a new breed was introduced in the Wiesbaden show ring as black and white York. A year later, the breed was registered in the German club A. S. N. - L. e. V. and created the first standard. The standard was finally signed in 2007.

The difference of the breed was not only in white spots. It contained genes that the Yorks did not have. This meant that other types of dogs that were not related to terriers participated in the creation of this breed. Black and white Yorkies came to Russia in 2008.

The decorative beaver with the light hand of the English singer Margot Eskens began to be called the "ball of wool." At dinner, her husband presented her with a dish covered with a lid. When the singer opened it, she saw a tiny puppy of a beaver and exclaimed delightedly: “ala PomPon!”, This name was fixed in the people.

Description

A beaver is a pretty baby with amazing eyes, a harmonious physique and silky soft hair, divided into a parting from the withers to the tail. According to the standard, the height of the animal should be 21-26 cm (girls are 5 cm taller than boys), weight should be from 2 to 3 kg (girls are 500 g heavier).

Adults must have a standardized appearance.

  • The head is small, regular in shape, with a straight wide forehead, has a descent to the muzzle, an almost vertical and noticeable bend in front of the nose.
  • Dense cheeks and cheekbones are covered with rich hair. The lower jaw is slightly recessed, the raised lips give the impression of a smile.
  • The beaver has small regular teeth, the jaw is marked by a weak grip.
  • The nose is velvety black, large, slightly protruding forward.
  • The eyes are small, rounded with dark eyelids, have a color from dark brown to almost black. A nimble look, with a cunning.
  • The protruding ears are set high and shifted to the sides, look like small triangles with beautiful hair.
  • The body is proportional, rectangular with a harmonious bend of the neck and a well-marked scruff.
  • Flat back with no visible bevel in the croup.
  • The chest is deep, slightly lowered, of moderate size.
  • Equal limbs with correctly formed joints and strong paw hands.
  • The high tail is densely covered with fur. When dropped, its tip almost touches the hock.

    The coat is luxurious, flowing. It can be braided into braids, decorated with strands, put on bows. The fur has no undercoat and reaches the floor. According to the standard, several types of color are allowed:

    • black or blue spots adorn white wool;
    • dark fur with white spots on the chest, abdomen and limbs.

    On the head there may be spots in a combination of white, blue, golden or black and white and golden colors. Their presence should correspond to symmetry; a golden color on the case is undesirable.

    Character

    It was a misconception that small dogs are not smart and cocky. The Beaver Yorkshire Terrier refutes the offensive impression with its character. He is quick-witted, well amenable to training, understands everything that the owner tells him. The beaver gets along well with other pets, it will not offend even a bird if it is a member of the family. He enjoys playing with young children. At the same time, his heart is very brave. A small growth will not stop the pet from rushing to protect the owner if it is in danger.

    Beaver sociable, affectionate, cheerful dog, he can quickly dispel the bad mood of others and set them up for positive. The kid faithfully loves all members of the family and is happy to participate in their lives. To give an adult dog into the wrong hands and a new environment is like killing her. The animal will suffer endlessly, therefore, people who are not confident in their attitude to animals, it is better not to choose this breed.

    Beavers love outdoor games, but their temperament is quite moderate, they are obedient and understanding, unless, of course, the owner spoils the pet. The dog will quickly realize that it is an important person for his family, he will begin to be stubborn, capricious and self-willed. It is better to acquire a puppy at the age of 3 months and immediately engage in his upbringing, then he will become a good friend and companion.

    Comparison with the Yorkshire Terrier

    For the biver, Yorkshire terriers became the base breed, so these pets have an external resemblance. But since other breeds of dogs participated in the creation of the three-color York, they also have certain differences.

    • Wool is the main thing that distinguishes these species. Yorkies are endowed with dark or silver fur. The beaver has a thicker, shiny and soft coat, resistant to tangle and pollution. They have an unusual color, created by spots on the head and body.
    • Beavers have strong immunity, they have hereditary diseases, but they are less susceptible to them than Yorkshire terriers.
    • Tricolor York is much calmer than his brother.
    • If you skip walks and not enough to load the dog physically, the beaver will begin to get fat, which does not happen with York.
    • Beavers are larger, have a stronger physique, strong muscular limbs, so they are faster than Yorkers in speed.

    In addition to personal data, both breeds differ in time and place of origin. Yorkshire terriers were bred in England at the end of the 19th century, and bivers in the 80s of the last century.

    How to choose a puppy?

    A puppy can be purchased using ads on the Internet. But it’s better to do this in the nursery, since bivers are not often found in Russia and no one is safe from deception. Professional breeders will provide documents for the dog, as well as information about parents and vaccinations. You should examine the place where the puppy is kept, it should be well-groomed and warm. Then pay attention to the baby’s health. If he is active and cheerful, communicates with pleasure and does not clog into a corner, then he is most likely healthy. If the puppy whines, tries to bite when picked up, then something is bothering him. A swollen belly may indicate digestive diseases or the presence of worms.

    Choosing a puppy, you should examine his coat. At the age of 2-3 months it is still short, but thick and uniform, without bald spots. The color is verified with the standard. The spots that distinguish this breed are located harmoniously throughout the body. The ideal baby has a white color on the chest, abdomen and limbs. A puppy with a chaotic pattern is better not to take. Golden spots are allowed.

    The beaver has 12 incisors; a lack of teeth indicates pathology. The external silhouette of the dog is important. The back should contain a straight line, be slightly wide and even. Nose and eyelids - without age spots, iris is clean, eyes are dark. Kids are distinguished by strong thick paws. By two months, they weigh 900 g.

    It is better to take the puppy home at the age of 2-3 months, when the distinctive features of the breed begin to be seen. Completely all the features of the breed can be noticed only by six months.

    Maintenance and care

    Maintenance and care of a decorative dog involves the implementation of a number of points: hygiene, haircut, walking, feeding, visiting a veterinarian. Let's consider everything in order.

    Hygiene

    Pet hygiene should be taught from puppyhood, then he will take all the procedures for granted to adults.

    • The morning should begin with an examination of the condition of the eyes and ears to exclude inflammation and suppuration. If necessary, the eyes are washed with boiled water, chamomile infusion or special pharmacy products. Dirt from the ears is carefully removed with a cotton swab.
    • A toothbrush and toothpaste for dogs should be purchased. Put the brush on the finger, then brush your teeth. The procedure is carried out every 3 or 4 days.
    • Bathing should be carried out 1-2 times a month. The ears are closed to the pet and the body is washed with a special hypoallergenic shampoo for dogs. To make the procedure seem more pleasant, you can throw toys into the bathroom. After bathing, moisture is removed from the wool with a towel and, if necessary, the dog is dried with a hairdryer. Then they comb it.
    • In addition to bathing, for a good condition of the hair you need to comb and cut. If the dog does not participate in exhibitions, a short hygienic haircut is suitable for him, which the owners can master, but it is better to entrust the dog's hair to an experienced groomer. Pet grooming is required from the age of four months. Beaver also needs daily combing. The hair is tidied with a special massage brush, and the bangs are tied with a bow. The fur of this breed does not fade seasonally; it is almost never found on sofas or carpets.
    • It is necessary to monitor the condition of the pet's claws, as they grow, they should be cut with scissors. With daily walking, the dog grinds them on a hard surface while walking. In winter, when walks become rare, claws will have to be cut much more often.
    • Walking for a beaver is necessary, without movement, it will begin to get fat. He should be offered active games, running, jumping. The baby must be taken to a safe place, wherever he risks getting under the car or colliding with a large dog. In winter, the pet can relieve the need for a cat litter box or a sanitary diaper.

    Health

    Vaccines provide protection against many types of dog diseases. The first vaccination is done at the age of 8-9 weeks. He receives comprehensive protection against 7 viruses, such as hepatitis, plague, leptospirosis, etc. The puppy is re-vaccinated when he is 3 months old, a component from rabies is added to the general vaccine. Further vaccinations are carried out once a year according to the scheme and recommendations of the veterinarian. Before taking the pet for vaccination, it must be treated for helminths.

    As already noted, healers have hereditary pathologies, only they rarely develop, since good health is inherent in this breed. The following issues need to be addressed:

    • diseases of the vascular system affect the growth of puppies;
    • an unbalanced diet can cause pancreatitis;
    • a lack of activity, overfeeding, treating with sweets leads to obesity;
    • osteochondropathy of the head of the hip went to the biveres from York;
    • bowel problems can cause food allergies and diarrhea.

    It is necessary to monitor how the puppy's teeth change, as this may cause irregularities. After walking, the dog should be checked for ticks and fleas. If the care for health and appearance is timely and correct, the pet can happily live up to 15 years.

    Feeding

    The nutrition of puppies is different from the diet of an adult dog, so consider them separately.

    Puppies

    Breeders give puppies high quality food. Taking the baby home, you should ask what was included in his diet from the breeder and prepare him the same feeding. Changing the menu, if necessary, should take place gradually. The number of feeds depends on the age of the puppies. If there is complementary foods with natural products, they can not be combined with dry food. In the diet, kids need to introduce rice, buckwheat, boiled fish, meat and turkey. They are also given eggs, cottage cheese, milk. You can add olive oil to the dish. At the age of six months, beavers are transferred to three meals a day, they stop giving milk to puppies, replacing it with dairy products. This is necessary for a good digestive system.

    Adult dogs

    Adult pets should be fed twice daily. Their food needs to be well balanced. If the dog’s diet contains dry foods of the super premium class, there is no need to worry about the health of the pet, they meet all the requirements of proper nutrition. Feeding with natural food involves the periodic addition of vitamins and minerals to dishes. The food of the animal should include cereals, vegetables, raw beef and boiled chicken, welded tripe and offal, low-fat sea fish, olive oil. Excludes pastries, legumes, sweets, smoked meats and fried foods.

    Parenting

    Beavers do not require special skills, such as hunting, fighting or guard. It is enough to teach them the correct behavior to protect themselves from the vagaries and self-will of the dog in the future. You can start by fixing the habits to cope with the need for a tray or absorbent diaper. They will come in handy when in bad weather the pet will be left without a walk.

    Teaching teams a biver is easy, he quickly learns simple concepts: "sit," "lie," "fu," "to me." The dog is mentally balanced, he normally responds to commands. The pet will not run away if they do not allow him, or take everything that he finds in his mouth. It is necessary to train the dog not to accept treats from strangers. If the cunning dog starts evading classes, the owner will have to be persistent, but you can’t interrupt the educational process.In the future, the pet will get used to the rules of behavior and life will improve. During training, the biver should be encouraged by treats and in no case be physically punished. It is enough to lower the voice and change the intonation, the sensitive dog will understand everything.
