Temperament is a combination of personality traits of each of us. We are all personalities with our positive and negative sides, which creates a character, of which temperament is a part. It has a direct impact on the life of a person who cannot live without communicating with his own kind. Temperament, in turn, dictates, to one degree or another, the behavior of a particular person who, for successful communication, needs to take into account personal characteristics and the person with whom he is communicating at the moment.

What types of temperament are there?

There are four main types of temperament in people: choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic, melancholic.

This division was first made in the 2nd century by the ancient Roman physician, surgeon and philosopher Claudius Galen, making a huge contribution to anatomy and psychology. We will analyze each temperament and give a detailed description.

- Choleric

These people are similar in behavior to a volcano. Choleric can often be quick-tempered and irritated. It is quite difficult for them to control their emotions, since for any, even the smallest, reason they can explode. Usually they are very initiative and energetic people, with great zeal, performing any work, but only the one that they like. Because routine and monotonous work quickly tires them, as a result of which they lose any interest in it and become unproductive. It is worth noting that choleric people tend not to complete the tasks. This can interfere quite strongly with them in building a career in “office work,” but they can show themselves well in creative professions such as artists, musicians, etc.

- Sanguine

This type of personality is characterized by a balanced nervous system. Such people like to make contact with others; they can easily adapt to new environmental conditions. Often companies are in the spotlight, they are called the "soul of the company." They differ in expressive facial expressions and pantomime. Sanguine, as well as choleric, are emotional, but their feelings are not so deep and pass quickly.

Moreover, sanguine people are permanently in a good mood. Their hallmark from choleric is greater self-control and patience. They are very productive at work, but the most significant successes can be achieved from them when the process itself captivates them. Since they are more impatient and inattentive, only the work they like deprives them of these shortcomings.

- Phlegmatic

This type is the most balanced of all. It is very difficult to piss off or infuriate such a person, and if you succeed, they quickly calm down and come to their senses. Phlegmatic people almost do not respond to psychoemotional upheavals, do not know how to sincerely rejoice or empathize. They have low self-esteem and often underestimate their own achievements in the person of others. People with a phlegmatic temperament are just a godsend for the employer, as they are able to carry out a large amount of work, process a huge amount of information in the shortest possible time. And even if they don’t like what they are doing, they will prefer to quietly transfer it to themselves, without showing others their disappointment or indignation. Despite their amazing performance, it is difficult for them to find contacts with other people, while having the ability to get along with all other types of temperament.

- Melancholic

These are precisely those people with whom it is difficult to find a common language, and generally communicate. Melancholics, unlike phlegmatic people, are very vulnerable. They are characterized by quiet speech, timidity, retardation of movements, hyperbolization. Also, probably, the biggest drawback of melancholy people is their tendency to suicidal thoughts and actions. There are cases when melancholy people, unable to cope with difficulties, committed suicide. It is difficult for such people to go up the career ladder. Since any stress, whether it is a director’s remark or the stress of the work process, can put a lot of pressure on a sensitive person and lead him to a nervous breakdown.

Mixed temperament sanguine phlegmatic

We examined four main types of temperaments. Now it's time to talk about the fact that the so-called "pure" species do not exist. There are so-called mixed species. But now we will consider only one of them. Sanguine phlegmatic - this is probably one of the most common temperaments. Its main feature is the perfect balance of concentration and emotionality. Sangvo-phlegmatic features are sociability, positivity. Such a person can overcome any difficulties without extra effort. Often these people have many friends, but they are able to calmly prioritize and are not prone to distraction. The bosses love such people and are appreciated in the team.

If we are talking about the union of sanguine and phlegmatic, then everything is ambiguous. There is little mutual understanding in such a tandem, but mutual assistance is at the highest level. Such a couple can cooperate well in any field. Since the eternal activity and fervor of the sanguine is offset by the concentration and hard work of the phlegmatic.

They complement each other at the same time, achieving high results. Problems can arise outside working hours due to the dissimilarity of interests because sanguine people are often interested in active pastime. It can be various sports, such as football, boxing or snowboarding. And phlegmatic people will prefer reading books, drawing, playing musical instruments to all kinds of extreme sports.

Does temperament affect success in life?

Yes, it affects our lives. The speed of our reaction, behavior in a given situation depends on it. Temperament dictates the behavior that we adhere to in life. It has a direct impact on all our decisions. This can both positively and negatively affect us. There are frequent cases when people lost their jobs because of a quick-tempered character or, conversely, because of excessive vulnerability and isolation.

But this influence can be reduced and made insignificant. For example, if you are a very emotional choleric, try to look at yourself from the side, imagine how your frequent “explosions” can offend people, you can also try to take a sedative course. If you are a melancholy person and this prevents you from living, then more often try to go outside, enjoy the nature and company of other people. Remember, success is completely up to you!
