If there is any doubt that having armed only with sewing tools and having made several measurements, you can sew the original dress, throw them aside. This article provides different models of dresses sewn without a pattern that cannot be distinguished from factory ones.
Chiffon Summer
Light and airy chiffon is a real salvation in the hot time, and it looks elegant and romantic, fluttering in the wind. A good example is a short dress in front of a long back, which we will sew.
A one-piece dress with an asymmetrical hem should fit snugly at the top, and then expand from the armhole. Since the material is transparent, cut in two layers from the main fabric or use the lining for the bottom so that the dress does not shine through. The number of layers, the length of the dress on the back, and also the width will determine the amount of fabric. As for the width of the skirt, the larger it is, the more beautiful it will be folded.
Take the shirt and circle it, not forgetting the seam allowances. Immediately on the fabric, model the neckline of the front, making it deeper or more closed, asymmetric or bando.
There are no waist tucks, but you can make tucks on your chest if you wish. Then on the pattern in front of the cutout of the armhole, increase by a couple of centimeters.
From the line of the armhole on the back of the dress, make a flare in the form of a trapeze and make out the skirt cutout. To do this, mark the length of the skirt in the middle of the back, for example 130 cm, then round the hem to the side seams with a smooth line. On the front skirt, also make a flare and measure the desired length, then make a hemline.
If you like models that are short in front and long in the back with a smell on the skirt, then the skirt is cut out separately and then sewn to the top. A ready-made blouse or a self-made one can serve as a bodice. Just don’t forget about the clasp if the top is tight and sewn from poorly stretched fabric.
If the fabric is transparent, sew an additional short petticoat or by tracing the shirt, extend the top on the fabric.
Tailoring skirts:
- Fold a rectangle with a width of at least 140 cm and the required length for the skirt in half.
- Measure 10-12 cm on the opposite side of the odor fold.
- Down set aside the length of the front skirt with hem allowances.
- Draw a diagonal line from the corner point through the point of the length of the front skirt to the bottom, smoothly rounding the hem.
On the skirt, treat the bottom with an overlock or use the foot with a snail, and sew the elastic at the top. Stitch skirt and top together.
Flax dress
Striped linen fabric and a free sundress model with a detachable bodice and a half-sun skirt with a frill will give comfort in the warm season.
For the top you will need 2 rectangles with a width equal to the half-circumference of the chest and the length of the shelf measure, additionally add allowances. Also measure the height of the armhole and set aside on the segments.
Draw oblique lines to form the armhole, then draw the drawstring at the top, process the armholes and sew both halves of the bodice. Thread the tape.
Cut out a skirt:
- Fold a cloth 150 cm wide in half.
- Measure the waist, or rather the place where the top of the dress ends.
- Set aside a half measure with an allowance in a semicircle in the corner of the section.
- Measure the length of the skirt without a shuttlecock across the canvas.
- Cut the part and sew.
From the remaining tissue, remove the rectangle for the shuttlecock. Assemble it and stitch it to the skirt, then grind the skirt and top of the sundress.
Greek style direct
It’s hard to believe, but a dress for a cocktail party or for a date can be sewn by laying one line. In appearance it will be no worse than the design one, and you will spend time only 10 minutes.
You will need a piece of knitted fabric with the addition of viscose 150x150 cm in size.
- Fold it in half.
- Measure your chest and hips. Half-girth of a larger measure, measure at the bottom of the fabric and draw a line up, not reaching the edge of 25 cm.
- Now lay the line along the marked line and two more at a distance of 1 cm. To prevent the machine from pulling the fabric, place a sheet of paper under the bottom and then carefully remove it from the seam.
Pull a long satin ribbon into the 2 wings. The dress is ready.
Since viscose does not tear and arrows do not go, it is not necessary to process the edges.
Try on a new outfit, secure the shoulder sections with a beautiful pin or brooch, you can sew them, now adjust the length and form a drapery.
Homemade knitwear
A simple cut of a knitted dress on the straps will provide comfort while doing household chores, and at the same time make it look beautiful.
Cut 2 rectangles with a width equal to the half-girth of the chest with allowances for the seams, if you want a fitting option, and the length you need. For example 55x65 cm.
The next step is the design of the armholes and the hem rounding:
- Fold the pieces in half.
- In the lower corner of the opposite bend, measure 10 cm and 3 cm up, then connect the points with a semicircular line.
- Measure 5.5 cm in the upper corner down, 11 cm to the left.
- In the opposite corner at the bend, measure 1 cm on the back and 3 cm on the front from the top cut. And smoothly connect the top points.
Treat the upper and lower sections with an inlay of the remaining fabric. Pull the gum into the top. If the dress is loose, sew an elastic band at the waist.
It remains to make straps that will serve as a stripe for armholes. Cut out strips 25 cm long. Stitch them along the side cut to the front armhole and to the back armhole. Make a hem on the second side cut, ironing it. And then sew on the wrong sides of the parts. Stitch the details on the sides.
For pregnant
Expectant mothers need to stay stylish during pregnancy without causing discomfort to themselves and the baby. One of the successful styles for pregnant women is a loose simple dress that can be decorated with beads, lace, removable collars or bright brooches.

- From a wool or any dense fabric, cut out a rectangle 130 cm wide and 160 cm long.
- Fold the line 4 times.
- From the fold, measure the quarter of the measurements of the waist or hips and plus 5 cm.
- Set aside 40 cm from the received point.
- For the sleeve, set aside 30 cm from the opposite side and connect the two points obtained with a line, slightly rounding the corner.
- Cut the parts in a line, and then cut the neck.
- Make a one-piece sharpening of the neck and grind it.
- Sew side seams and trim the bottom of the dress.
- On the sleeves make a drawstring and stretch an elastic band into it.
