How often do we use the phrase: "They are crazy!" And we don’t even think about the fact that in some people this expression can cause an unpleasant feeling and even fear. And all because there are individuals who are very afraid of losing their minds. A mild phobia is not a disease, but you need to pay attention to this problem in time and begin to fight it.
What it is?
Ordinary people are afraid of any disease. This is a completely normal fear. Most of us feel terrified of losing control of ourselves. And this is also not something out of the ordinary. The main thing is that this fear does not acquire constancy.
A sane person who reports on his actions and is responsible for his actions is afraid to lose his status and become completely helpless in terms of social adaptation. The same person may be aware that the disease does not choose people according to status or welfare. Therefore, we all understand that everyone can lose their reason. Hence the development of phobia.
True, here we need to make a reservation: not every one of us can think about this problem day and night. A really strong fear of going crazy is experienced by a very small part of people. The big one, with a more stable psyche, tries not to think about it.
No wonder such a disorder is not psychiatric in nature, but more psychological. That is why it is not included in the list of serious diseases established by the international community. And all because this phobia may indicate that a person has certain reasons for the development of anxiety. That's how they separate.
Socio-cultural. They arise when a person experiences various psycho-emotional stresses in life. Risk-related professional activities can also lead to this condition. If we add to this the dependence on the opinions of others, then progress in terms of the development of phobia becomes inevitable. Separately, a genetic predisposition should be noted. And when a person knows that his close relative suffered from insanity, then the fear of repeating the fate of a sick relative can increase and turn into panic attacks.
Personal character traits. People with increased anxiety, self-doubt, a tendency to depression and stress may be afraid of madness.
It must be remembered that the fear of madness refers to psychogenic disorders. They can lead to mental health problems. Psychologists say: if a person is prone to such an obsessive state, then he already has mental deviations.
Causes of occurrence
Often, neurologists define a disease as vegetovascular dystonia (VVD). This diagnosis is known for its versatility of symptoms and belongs to the group of other diagnoses. Pathological changes in the autonomic system lead to fear of going crazy. And in this case, a phobia can have a real threat to health.
Vegetatics is difficult to treat. In order for the patient to stop thinking about his phobia, you need to find a specific reason, after which he can forget about fear.
Human fears and panic attacks are intertwined. The occurrence of such conditions leads to the fact that the individual begins to be afraid to become crazy. Personality Disorder Syndrome involves panic attacks. It turns out that the patient cannot get out of these weaves. Then he has a fear of harming others. It is increasingly moving away from social life, and the process at all becomes irreversible.
And all this comes from the fact that the newly begun attack of fear becomes unlike the previous one. A person loses control over himself, and only the help of a specialist, which should be provided on time, can save him from a psychiatric illness.
With neurosis, there is also a fear of losing one's mind. People are afraid of losing control of themselves, and this fear provokes even greater fear. And then the following conditions may occur: post-traumatic, acute or chronic stress, neurotic syndrome, hypochondria, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (numerous phobic disorders).
And then a frequently occurring obsessive state in which there is no logic can already begin. A person understands well that he commits wrong actions, but cannot resist them. And then he convinces himself of his insanity.
Suspiciousness (that a person has certain mental disorders) causes a condition called hypochondria. People with this condition spend considerable effort on treatment. They sincerely believe that they have deviations. And even when they are told that they are completely healthy, they continue to believe in their illness, justifying it with the fact that doctors are mistaken and simply cannot make the correct diagnosis.
Such a disorder requires long-term treatment in a hospital setting.
Patients diagnosed with schizophrenia are prone to physical impairment. At the initial stage, the individual is still a little bit, but understands that something is wrong with his consciousness. For example, when auditory hallucinations begin, the patient can distinguish real sounds from far-fetched ones. Then the fear of committing a mad act aggravates the course of the disease.
With anxiety, to go crazy, the clinical course of schizophrenia begins, which is expressed in paroxysmal-progressive form.Then enlightenment can come when a person fully understands that something is wrong with him. And this further enhances fear. However, the individual does not understand that he has already lost his mind.
Often there are cases when social reasons can lead to fear going crazy: emotional or physical overload, fatigue, tension in personal life and at work.
People who are very busy, do not have sufficient livelihoods, are prone to phobias to lose their minds. As a result, a person becomes depressed, and this only exacerbates his position. Attention decreases, memory becomes weaker, mental processes slow down.
These somatic disorders lead to the thought of his madness. If you do not get rid of this condition, then suicidal tendencies appear.
To overcome a condition called dysphysophobia, you need to start conducting courses of psychotherapy. Rehabilitation actions, such as outdoor recreation, a trip to the sea or complete relaxation at home, will help bring a person out of this state.
Induced delusional disorder is expressed in emotional relationships between very close people, when an individual, having a certain mental illness, tries to transfer it to a loved one. In response, his completely healthy relative is trying to find an excuse for such behavior. In the end, both people begin to think the same way. So there is a joint overcoming of the fear not to go crazy. When both begin treatment, an adequate relative returns to normal much faster, and the sick individual continues treatment.
How to fight?
Phobia can be defeated quickly only when a person is aware of his condition and begins to show willpower. It is difficult to overcome neurosis on your own. Psychologists and psychotherapists will help here using the following methods:
- psychoanalysis is an obligatory link; a person must independently realize the reason for his fears;
- hypnosis can be applied;
- cognitive therapy will also be effective;
- art therapy (art treatment);
- in a very advanced case, medication will help.
You can still offer to act on the principle of "wedge by wedge." We must try to give our fears the right to exist. In one’s thoughts one can “crank up” and consider any situation. It will not harm anyone, including you. So, imagine that you hurt a person or turned into a madman and run naked along the street. After that, you need to conduct a study of your attitude to the above events.
If you feel disgusted from just one thought that such unpleasant events could happen to you, then everything is in order with your consciousness. And the analysis showed that you are a sane person and you have absolutely nothing to fear.
Work with the subconscious
This practice will help remove fear of losing control of oneself. Learn how to get rid of the settings that bother you. They can be the following: fear of aggressive actions (do not show your strength), fear of freedom (you need to endure even if you do not like something), fear of loneliness (please others in the hope of their favor), etc.
These settings will not bring anything good to life. No wonder even in the famous song it is sung: "You should not bend under a changing world." Ultimately, you won’t please everyone, but you can easily hurt your psyche and drive yourself into depression. Under the fear of losing one's mind, the denial of one's self is hidden first. Remember that incorrect attitudes will contribute to this denial until you learn to say no to them.
Psychologists argue that it is impossible to get angry inside yourself for a long time. Such emotions should splash out. And if your will was suppressed due to circumstances independent of you, then allow yourself to get a little angry.
Remember one rule: do not keep bad emotions inside yourself, then you will never suffer from phobias.
