Bright, athletic, fiery eighties of the twentieth century gave rise to a new lifestyle and style of clothing called Disco. Its name already speaks for itself that it was born on dance floors and in night clubs.

History

Disco is really colorful, colorful and active. It was formed as a result of imitation of stage idols - cult singers and musical groups such as Diana Ross, ABBA, Boney M, Bee Gees and others.

And a kind of cherry on the cake, or rather, the impetus for the development of the popularity of the disco style was the film "Saturday Night Fever", which was released in 1977. Young John Travolta played the main role in it - the seller in a small shop, Tony Manero, who was invisible and unprepossessing during the day, and at night transformed into a real star of the dance floor in the Odyssey club.

Probably, the audience fell in love with this film because it gave them something that they lacked so much - the belief that no matter how routine life seemed in the daytime, at night it can be made completely different. To some extent, this discovery became revolutionary for the youth of the eighties, boys and girls began to actively implement this idea.

In addition, in the eighties of the twentieth century, more and more nightclubs began to appear, sports fit bodies and fitness came into fashion. The new time required other clothes: tight-fitting - to emphasize a slim figure and body flexibility, bright - to attract attention to yourself at a party that does not constrain movement - to make intricate pas at the disco and do sports.

However, it is not surprising that the disco style has many elements and features of a sports style.

At the same time, their ideals of male and female beauty, characteristic of the disco period, developed. The benchmark of male appearance was a tall, disappointed pay-youth, but with a thin physique. Women sought to get closer to the appearance of a long-legged slender blonde.

Disco style clothes

It is not surprising that it was the fashionable image of Travolta that became one of the main role models. The most classic disco style for men is a white suit with knee-high flared trousers, a dark shirt, high-heeled shoes. Just like Travolta and his hero. Often the shirt was replaced with various colored tight-fitting turtlenecks from thin knitwear.

He was so fond of such a fashionable bow that they began to use it in films that have absolutely nothing to do with the disco style. Recall the troubadour from the "Bremen Town Musicians", who in one of the episodes appears in a white suit with a light flare on his pants. Or the hero of Alexander Abdullov - Ivan Pukhov - from the film "Wizards", which appeared at the ball in the same way in a white suit and black shirt. And it cannot be said that this image did not suit them. However, even such classics were very actively and shamelessly diluted with paints and bright accessories.

In general, the disco style has greatly influenced the further development of men's fashion. Thanks to him, it became clear that a man can behave freely and relatively relaxed, even in a seemingly strict suit. Changes also occurred in the silhouettes themselves - flowing lines, a more loose fit of clothes, and the visual creation of wide shoulders became fashionable.

With the light hand of designer and fashion designer Giorgio Armani, the world saw a line of silver-gray suits, silk shirts and loose ties, which ensured him a huge and dizzying Hollywood success. Clothing absolutely did not strive for restraint: wide flared jeans, leggings, shorts, colored tights, and all this was decorated with sequins, lurex, and was often sewn of bright or shiny fabric.

For tailoring, mainly artificial materials were used - viscose, polyester, spandex.

In the wardrobe of every mod and every fashionista there were always jeans, mostly flared, the waist of which was understated. Both men and women wore them. Jeans were decorated, often with their own hands, printed patterns, embroidery with the same sequins, beads. The so-called banana pants were fashionable. Of course, the name of so many interesting details of the wardrobe gave an external resemblance to a banana.

Another option for a fashionable image for a woman is a combination of short shorts and bright tights or leggings, t-shirts and trousers in bright colors, denim sundresses.

In addition, do not forget that dancing, which at that time was an incredibly popular way of spending time and a form of leisure, is still one of the sports, because as it has already been said, there are a lot of borrowings from the sports style in the disco style. For example, leggings, short shorts, wide T-shirts, sports shoes were frequent attributes of girls not only in dance or fitness classes, but simply on the streets.

Colors

Disco style is characterized by acidic, and even bright colors in almost everything - in clothes, in makeup, and even in hairstyles. On the crest of a fashionable wave were light green, yellow, pink, orange, silver, metallic colors. Hair sprays with a short-term coloring effect, artificial multi-colored locks of hair, hairpins and elastic bands - and all this was full of all shades of the rainbow spectrum.

The girls’s hairstyles were made high and magnificent, but at the same time as strong as possible, so that during the next dance the hair would not be ruffled.

Violet, blue, blue eyeshadows combined with fuchsia lipstick and red blush were a classic make-up for women of that time. Plus, the girls painted their nails in rich colors to match their make-up, accessories and clothes.

Everything played in contrasts, especially in female images. Different colors were mixed in clothes, accessories. For example, girls put several elastic bands for hair of different colors at once on their ponytail, combined bright red leggings, a green tunic and an orange bolero, accessories were not necessarily matched to the color of any item of clothing.

Accessories

For this style, not only clothing that attracts attention is used, but also accessories with the same task. Basically, girls and girls were fond of accessories, of course. Mostly they wore a large number of bracelets and all at once, a lot of chains, large earrings, either colored or imitating gold, irregularly shaped glasses and colored glasses.

Shoes also dazzled with paints. Women preferred sandals, shoes and sandals, which stood out with high heels, stilettos or a platform. Men also often wore platform shoes.

How to dress for a party?

Despite the fact that the time of the disco style is already in the past, many of its elements still remain and are being introduced into modern fashion, and even many modern designers leave hints of it in their new collections of clothes and accessories. Moreover, especially creative or nostalgic companies organize theme parties and events, including those in the eighties style.

Of course, in the XXI century it is difficult to repeat the disco style as it was then. It is important that such colorful clothes correspond to the place and time, because if we are talking about a theme party, there are no taboos or restrictions for you.

If you intend to attend an event of a different plan, it is important not to overdo it with a riot of colors and a nostalgic immersion in disco fashion.

The modern attitude to the disco style in female images allows for the presence of skinny jeans paired with loose jackets, sweaters, tunics. They are complemented by platform sandals, plastic jewelry, bright clutches, competently setting accents.

As in the last century, sparkling silver and golden colors, lurex and sequins are welcome. Now materials for arts and crafts are full of their diversity, so if you want, you can decorate your clothes for a suitable look on your own.

Pleated skirts of a trapezoidal shape, which successfully hide the imperfections of the figure in the hips, can be attributed to the modern disco style. Another great option to attract attention is a jumpsuit, which can serve as a kind of transformer. During the day at the workplace, be strict and restrained, and by evening, supplemented with accessories, already sparkle with new colors.

Men are much easier. They can complement their classic costume with a bright shirt or colored turtleneck and sparkle in the disco style. A cult white suit and black shirt are classics of disco style.
