Russian Spaniels are very dedicated dog breeds. They get along well with all family members and other pets. This is a hunting breed, but you can keep a Russian spaniel as a family companion. He feels comfortable at home. The most popular color for Russian spaniels is black.

The tail is straight at the base and, according to the standard, should be half docked. The ears are wide, long, drooping, they are covered with curly hair. In a purebred animal, the edge of the ear should reach the tip of the nose.
The coat is soft to the touch, long, the color may be brown, red, with a tan. There are white individuals with a dark speck; black and black-piebald puppies are also considered valuable. Plain, two and three-color dogs are found. On the ears and back of the legs, the hair curls. There are smooth-haired dogs and dogs with curly hair.
The size of the head is proportional to the body, the skull and face are the same size. The forehead is wide, the nape is convex. The transition to the muzzle is well defined, but smooth. Lips are dense with age spots, scissor bite. The nose of black dogs is black, wide, with round nostrils.
The length of the legs is half the height, they have powerful joints. The front legs are slightly wider than the chest, the hind legs are wider than the front. Hips have massive joints, muscular, with inclined lower legs.
Character
This is a brave and courageous dog and at the same time a friendly, affectionate and cheerful pet.He chooses for himself only one master, whom he serves until the end of his life, and tries to achieve his approval. Other family members will also be loved by the pet - the animal will respect them, but only one of the household members will be considered the owner.
For children, the Russian Spaniel is patient and restrained. If the child bothers the dog with games, she will not show aggression, but simply leave this room or hide where she will not be reached.
For four-legged family members, this dog is mostly indifferent, so often this breed is bred in agriculture. In this case, the owners are sure that the animal will not hunt chickens and ducks.
The animal does not show aggression to strangers, but it treats them rather cautiously and is unlikely to approach a passerby on the street after seeing a draft movement. In general, the dog has a rather aristocratic character, but at the same time, it is a real artist who, begging for a treat, can show the wonders of canine acting, and usually gets his reward. Often the tenderness of a home companion is combined in the character of the dog with watchdog qualities.
Hunting origin makes this animal active, mobile. The pet of the breed Russian Spaniel loves walking, jogging, enjoys going out with the owner to nature, and happily swims. The dog is very amenable to training, likes communication, but surrounded by strangers always keeps his distance, does not like to be intrusive.
Care and maintenance
Russian Spaniel tolerates hot weather and cold, so keeping a dog in a street aviary is quite acceptable. Only in this case the animal necessarily needs a warmed booth. If the pet is kept in the apartment, then he also needs to determine his place and put a couch there.
Those who decide to have a puppy should remember that during the vaccination period, he should not be allowed to go outside, which means that he will perform his intimate affairs in the house. Not all owners are ready for this, but this is the rule of keeping any dog, regardless of breed. For an unvaccinated puppy, the street is full of dangers - he faces many diseases, infections, and parasites. In the house, the young spaniel quickly understands why they put a tray on it or put on an absorbent diaper, so the owners usually do not have problems in this regard.
Once the vaccination period has passed, the animal should be accustomed to the street. If the puppy is accustomed to relieve need for a diaper, then it is worth taking it with you for a walk and laying it on the ground. Over time, the dog will learn to do without this litter.
Russian Spaniel needs daily long walks. You can visit dog pitches with him, play, take bicycle rides with you. Without daily physical activity, the dog can become obese, which significantly reduces its lifespan. During the walk, the dog can react vigorously to extraneous actions, for example, to rush for a company of children or for a cat. For this reason, the pet should always be on a leash and go down only in specially designated places.
The wool of the Russian spaniel has a special coating that repels dirt, so the dog does not need frequent bathing - just wash it 3-4 times a year. But combing the hair is recommended once a week, since the "coat" of this dog is prone to the formation of tangles.
Hunting dogs do not need to cut their nails, and those kept at home it is enough to cut the claws once a month.
It is important to regularly examine the ears of the spaniel, since due to the drooping shape they are poorly ventilated, therefore they are prone to inflammatory processes. If you find a defect in the dog’s ear, you should immediately contact a veterinarian who will prescribe competent treatment. If you start the condition of the ears, then over time the dog will experience pain.
The problem can spread more deeply, and due to discomfort the animal will be in constant stress.
What to name a puppy?
For male spaniels of black and piebald color, which will be used in the hunt, such serious nicknames as Black, Dark, Damn, Demon, Demon, Pirate, and their home brothers can be called simpler names: Chernysh, Gypsy, Spot, Ugolek, Graphite.
