Despite all the innovations, people continue to choose time-tested things. Especially when it comes to choosing furniture. Hinged cabinets are still popular today. This choice is quite justified - in addition to reliability and simplicity, they have a ton of other positive characteristics. Although the method of opening has remained the same, many new options have appeared in the filling and design.
Features, advantages and disadvantages
Opening the hinged cabinet is quite simple: just pull the handle toward you and to the side, after which the installed mechanism will work, and the door will open (swing open).
This piece of furniture consists of:
- frame (top, bottom, back wall, sidewalls and shelves);
- facades (they can also be called doors or sashes).
Hinged cabinets have many advantages:
- a simple and familiar way of opening (it is historically the first);
- No need to exert much effort;
- if the mechanism works efficiently, the doors open and close silently, which is especially convenient for a bedroom (in comparison with the rattling sliding sashes of a sliding wardrobe or accordion doors);
- doors occupy less internal space than in other models of cabinets;
- wide access to everything inside, without restrictions;
- variability (the design of the valves is diverse, you can easily choose the option to taste);
- the mechanism is easy to repair or replace in case of breakage;
- You can independently assemble the delivered parts or even do it completely with tools and skills;
- it is possible to install a simple lock on the sash;
- low cost (such cabinets are much cheaper than sliding wardrobes).
Despite all of the above, cabinets with swing doors have weaknesses:
- opening the sash needs space, so this option is not suitable for narrow rooms, or tightly crammed with other furniture;
- the weak point of such cabinets are mechanisms (over time, they can begin to creak, and doors can lead);
- without closers and dampers, the flaps slam when closed.
Attitude to swing cabinets can be called biased, in fact they are more durable. For the same price you can buy a reliable swing cabinet or low-quality coupe model.
Types of mechanisms
In order to attach the sash to the frame, hinges or awnings are required. They provide not only opening and closing, but also the correct position of the facades. With the help of them, adjustment is also carried out, and at once in several directions:
- sideways;
- up or down;
- inland.
Thus, the facade will definitely take its position, will not hang crookedly, or, even worse, touch the frame. These loops are considered the most comfortable. Although there are exceptions - for example, for fastening thin or glass doors that cannot be drilled. Their design no longer allows adjustment.
Hinges vary in opening angle:
- 90-110 degrees, there are overhead, half-laid and inset depending on what position they occupy relative to the side rack of the frame and the type of sash;
- 135 degrees - for wings hung on a trapezoid module;
- 165 (carousel) - can also be a waybill or a half waybill;
- 180 (direct) - with its help, the raised facade can be attached.
The larger the angle, the more convenient it is to get the things inside and fold them back. However, walls, radiators and adjacent furniture often interfere with opening the sash. In this case, with careless opening, there is a risk of breaking the facade and spoiling its appearance.
The above loops can be equipped with a closer (built-in or overhead). The difference from the usual ones is the smoothness of the sash and the absence of pops when closing. Of course, hinges with closers are much more expensive. In this regard, fittings manufacturers such as Hettich and Blum have proven themselves well. Of great importance when choosing mechanisms is the material of manufacture. It is better if it is steel or brass. In this case, their components will slide well, without deformation. The fittings will last a long time, and corrosion will not be afraid of it.
Dimensions
Currently in the bedroom You can install two types of cabinet with swing wings:
- built-in (in which instead of side racks, the bottom and top will protrude the walls of the room);
- standing separately.
And if a ready-made cabinet can be placed along any suitable wall, then for built-in models you need to call a measurer and draw up an individual design project. Cabinet dimensions are often manufacturer-specific. Large companies have their own dimensional grid (usually in increments of 5 to 15 cm) - this is how their machines are configured. And large volumes of production do not allow to make frame details and facades according to individual sizes, because it is unprofitable and inconvenient for them. If such a service exists, then for an additional cost. Small manufacturers with this manufacture are easier, but quality suffers more often.
The height of the cabinet can be different - from standard 210 to 250 cm and above. Of course, a tall cabinet will be more spacious, however, using its upper part will be possible only with the help of a small ladder or stand. And if you leave a gap between the cabinet lid and the ceiling, then dust will accumulate on it, and the floor-to-ceiling version looks more aesthetically pleasing. The only limitation is the size of materials and decorative inserts - for example, mirrors. Please note that shipping long parts can be difficult.
The width of the cabinet is limited by the size of the walls of the bedroom. However, there are some nuances here - the whole thing is the number of wings.
- Single leaf do not make wider than 60 cm, since the hinges simply can not withstand the weight of the leaf. The cabinet can be narrower - from 45 cm. This type is also called a pencil case.
- In wider models, there may be two, three, and even four wings. In this case, the width is divided into equal segments, which will become symmetrical doors.
It is believed that a structure longer than 200 cm will be unreliable, and if there are no internal partitions in it, the cabinet lid may sag. In this case, it is better to put two narrower modules side by side.
The optimal depth for the cabinet is considered to be 50-60 cm. This is enough to, for example, put clothes on the shoulders. If there is no such need, you can reduce the depth, saving the living space of the room. This is usually done in corner models - when the second side is made less deep.
Internal filling options
In order to properly use the internal space of the cabinet, you must first determine its content. It will depend on the purpose of the cabinet, that is, on those things that will be placed in it. The cabinet can be:
- clothes (for items of clothing, shoes and accessories);
- linen (for home textiles);
- combined.
Less often in the bedrooms are cabinets for books, needlework and other little things. In children's rooms there must be a properly organized place for toys.
All space can be divided into three zones.
- It’s wise to put rarely used items on top. These include suitcases, bags, spare bedding, off-season clothing. Mezzanines are better divided into long shelves - so large items will fit on them, and for folded unclaimed clothes or small things, it is better to use containers or baskets.
- At the bottom, it would be wiser to place shoes for storage. Each pair can be put in a box and put them on top of each other or install special shelves, shoe racks. If size permits, in this part you can find a place for an ironing board or household appliances.
- In the middle part will be placed those items that are used constantly. For them you will need:
- a bar (longitudinal or several transverse) for hangers with clothes, you can replace it with a pantograph - a bar with a convenient lifting mechanism;
- drawers for linen and other small items of clothing (for them it is better to choose dividers with separate cells);
- open shelves for bedding, towels and textiles;
- plastic or metal baskets in which you can put small accessories;
- holders for belts and ties;
- small retractable compartments for jewelry and other accessories.
If the cabinet replaces the dressing room, then on the outer or inner side of the sash must be a mirror - in full growth or small. If there is not enough lighting in the bedroom, it is better to place additional lamps next to the mirror. Wireless backlighting is also needed deep in the cabinet.
Design
In order for the wardrobe to fit into the classic interior of the bedroom, its appearance must be appropriate. In this case, it is better to choose a natural wood or MDF coated with a film with imitation of wood fibers, possibly with the effect of aging. Preferred facades with milling or patina. The figured cornice and pens in bronze will complete the image. In this case, the swinging wings will fully correspond to the style. Neoclassicism is characterized by a lack of decorative details and a more rigorous facade design.
Almost all modern areas refuse frame facades in favor of smooth ones. But their coverage is becoming more diverse - with an imitation of fabric, leather, metal and even stone. Similar options look original.At the same time, it is desirable that a similar motive be present on other pieces of furniture. Plain facades are also relevant. To ensure that the multi-leaf cabinet does not look boring, the sashes can be diluted with a mirror. An alternative to a mirror is glass - colored or frosted.
Photo printing will help to revive the interior. Using it, the facades can be decorated with natural or urban landscapes, thematic images. The wave-like sashes look even more original, especially if the smooth lines are reflected in other objects in the bedroom.
In the modern bedroom, you can increasingly see the wardrobe with a shiny color coating. Gloss is especially effective in contrasting combinations of white with black or red. Shiny metal pens are a good addition. Such an interior will energize, help to cope with any tasks. Calm colors, on the contrary, will have a calming effect, adjust to rest and sleep.
Criterias of choice
To choose a wardrobe in the bedroom, It is worth considering a number of criteria.
- The size. Practice shows that there is no extra space in the closet. However, too bulky furniture will significantly hide the space of the room. To avoid this, it is necessary to estimate the approximate volume of things in advance and plan a place for each group. In addition to the internal size, you need to think about the external dimensions. Nothing should interfere with the full opening of the doors, so their size must be carefully coordinated with the designer.
- Material. The best option would be a tree. Solid wood furniture looks great thanks to the natural colors and texture. In addition, in the bedroom she is not afraid of sudden changes in humidity. However, this option is one of the most expensive. Basically, the tree on the facades is replaced with MDF, and the frame is made of laminated particleboard. Such a cabinet will cost significantly less.
- Manufacturer. When choosing it, it is better to focus on reviews and recommendations, rather than on advertising. Firms that value their reputation and seek to attract a larger number of customers usually provide free designing, delivery, rise to the floor and assembly. Of great importance is the service throughout the warranty period.
- Appearance. With the help of a large closet, you can visually change the bedroom. Mirrors on the facades will expand the space and add light. The same effect is exerted by light furniture, which does not damage the darkened room. A bulky cabinet made in dark colors will be less visually perceived.
