The design of the rooms of the house in various styles is a theme that will never cease to excite people. Perhaps the most important place in life is occupied by bedrooms. And that is why the application to them of a specific direction of design deserves careful analysis. In this article, we will consider the rules for designing a bedroom in a Scandinavian style.
Features
A conversation about the Scandinavian style in the interior is appropriate to start with the fact that this approach is now in demand in various parts of the world. This design direction is relevant everywhere, regardless of climatic conditions. The stylistics of northern Europe embodies environmental motives and functionality. The practical, but simple look of the "Scandinavian" bedroom will appeal to most residents of Russia. It is more pleasant than radical refinements in design.
It’s easy to find out a Scandinavian style room. It is characterized by:
natural colors (mainly white, beige, sometimes gray and peach);
preference for natural materials (for example, even fur);
minimum furniture and accessories;
maximum light (both natural and artificial);
heterogeneous ceramic decor;
use of bright accents.
A variety of objects and things can be used as color inclusions:
colorful pillows;
elegant or unusually looking plants (especially good together with the original flower pots);
saturated color paintings.
True, excessively bright keys should be treated with caution. Making the room cozy when using them is almost impossible. But even the most conservative-minded people will not object to the snow-white ceiling.
The glossy surface will make the room visually warmer and more spacious. Otherwise, there are no special restrictions on the choice of color.
Imitation of natural materials can bring considerable benefits, especially for a small bedroom-living room. It allows you to save money in comparison with a full-fledged natural decor.
For drapery windows usually use thin tulle. However, sometimes it’s better to completely abandon any drapery. But the walls in the Scandinavian room should be made as lighter as possible.
Color spectrum
Knowing the basic rules of design is very important, but the ability to use good color inclusions is also of great importance. Proper application of bright accents and background can allow:
to distract from unnecessary elements in the room;
focus on the benefits of a particular composition;
add comfort to the room;
push or squeeze the space.
The perfect solution for those who value peace is white. The situation is almost impossible when this color would be too much. If you select combinations, then you should additionally use black, blue, green and lemon colors.
The application of beige tones gives good results. Where they are, the room immediately looks more elegant. Usually beige colors are used in the design:
walls;
gender
furniture;
fittings.
Beige goes well with coffee, peach, pistachio. Raspberry tone also fits well. To avoid over-weighting the situation can be a simple way: to abandon heavy furniture and dark curtains. Sometimes they act differently - they prefer the golden tulle, elegant lighting or beautiful paintings. In any case, skillfully used beige is guaranteed to fit into the Scandinavian setting.
Attention deserves, according to designers, also gray paint. This solution has been used for a long time and is designed primarily to increase the brightness of individual elements. Often used a combination of gray and white, pink (reddish), blue, coffee colors. The use of pink tones as dominant is not very popular. But they make the room more original.
Green color can also be in demand in the design of bedrooms, although it is used unreasonably little. If the green color does not suit you, you can use the olive tone. These solutions make the room ideally conducive to relaxation, sleep and emotional relaxation.
Green color helps to refresh the space. But due to excessive enthusiasm for such colors, too much light is sometimes absorbed, therefore it becomes excessively gloomy, anxious.
Furniture selection
This point deserves special attention. Given the canons of the Scandinavian approach, the furniture in such a bedroom should be made of natural materials. Different varieties of wood are ideal. But just putting a certain amount of furniture made from wood is not enough. Attempts to copy the classic approach are often made thoughtlessly.
Having transferred a single element of stylistics (or even several of them) into their space, they get only senseless eclecticism. The Scandinavians themselves have developed a special style not at once, but filling the premises with furniture at different times. Between the appearance of various objects many years could pass. Because they can have a rather different look. It is absolutely impossible to miss such a nuance.
This effect can be reproduced by putting furniture representing different decades of the twentieth century in the house. Sometimes even the most old things are used. But eclecticism is only apparent, in fact, everything is very verified and strict. Heterogeneous components are necessarily combined:
- general purpose;
unity of color;
duplication of surface textures.
If something is very difficult to find, it remains only to choose natural forms instead of the missing types of furniture. From here come solutions like:
replacement of bedside tables with hemp;
use of branches as an analog of a hanger;
driftwood as a pillar support.
Scandinavian style is categorically incompatible with "historical" furniture. This is also due to its background - it is almost impossible to find an old set in the countries of Northern Europe. Furniture can be used as bright color inclusions. But too saturated tones can not be used.
Individual tastes are best shown using not colors, but textures.
Lighting organization
Whatever furniture is in the bedroom, whatever colors are used, all this will not “play” if mistakes are made in the formation of lighting. Scandinavian interior and here shows its laws. From lighting devices required:
modesty;
simplicity;
comfortable to use;
functionality.
It is only necessary to install fixtures and lamps where they are really needed for everyday purposes. At the same time, decorative motifs cannot be taken into account. Typically, lighting fixtures in Scandinavian rooms are mounted near armchairs, above or on desks, on bedside tables near beds. The options are very diverse, and there is no need to limit your choice to classic lamps. Alternatives can be miniature eyes, giant floor lights, diffused light tubes and a number of other options.
Very large chandeliers will also be acceptable. The only requirement is a strict coincidence in style with other objects. A great option for such a "giant" is a multiply enlarged copy of a white lamp, usually placed on a table. Luminaire lines should be completely calm and smooth, sharp corners and sharp edges are excluded.
It should be noted that the functional characteristics of each individual device are more valuable than its type. Danes, Norwegians, Swedes think so. In this case, the selection of similar fixtures for the whole house is quite appropriate. This approach makes the home as a whole more harmonious and enjoyable. But what exactly cannot be in the Scandinavian bedroom is poor lighting.
If there is not enough light in the interior, the view of the room is unusually gloomy. Sometimes it is even associated with a dark cave or with a monastery cell. The slightest departure from stylistics, even in trifles, is categorically unacceptable.
Optimal luminaires - made in warm colors, giving a monochrome color. The power of the lamps is also important.
Finish options
The aesthetics of the Scandinavian bedrooms, emphasized by fixtures, only seem to be extremely difficult. Yes, you will have to align both walls and ceilings to a perfectly smooth state. However, there are options that can significantly save and achieve a good result. We are talking about such solutions:
maintaining part of the brick wall in its pure form with slight alignment;
complete rejection of auxiliary elements;
covering the walls with a wooden lining, painted with white paint.
If a lining or other wooden coating is used, then it should look emphasized roughly, as if it were poorly processed. Such material will add a touch of comfort to a cold white, gray or olive bedroom. Instead of wood, materials imitating its texture are often used. Such solutions are cheaper and almost inferior in practical properties. A light rail (painted or unpainted, depending on personal preference) is usually placed on the floor.
The cheapest options are linoleum and laminate (especially since the commercial class is not required in this case, you can do with lower-quality brands). Ceramic tiles are used less frequently. It is more expensive than the same linoleum and laminate, and the choice in this case will be more difficult. As for wall decoration, wallpaper is undesirable.
Usually walls:
plaster;
bleached;
coated with paint;
upholstered with painted plywood.
In the Scandinavian style bedroom glass sliding doors are appropriate. Often they are completely discarded to improve ventilation and add light. It is not recommended to use expensive cabinet furniture as storage systems, it is much more convenient to open innovative products that combine in appearance with decoration. Usually it is recommended to use not just plain decoration, but solutions based on texture and decor. Thanks to them, as well as color maneuvers, it is possible to form very pleasant compositions.
Textiles and Decor Elements
Scandinavian style, contrary to popular belief, is compatible with accessories. However, they should be consumed as little as possible. And therefore, each decoration has an exclusive role. Its use will have to be thought out properly. Good decorative elements should:
have natural colors;
consist of simple materials;
show originality.
Curtains, towels and other textiles are decorated with cages, stripes. It is useful to consider the presence of classic national patterns. To form color accents, plaids, blankets, pillows, bedspreads and all kinds of capes are used. The best curtains are those made of light, partially transparent fabric.
Experts advise choosing curtains from turquoise, slightly green and amber fabrics.
The carpet almost completely goes beyond the Scandinavian style. EThe only acceptable option is warm-colored carpets made of cotton. Other textiles should be the same color without the slightest pattern. It is recommended to choose accessories for white and cream colors for bedrooms. Near the bed or sofa, it is advisable to put a small rug in soothing colors.
Good examples
When choosing a bedroom composition for a girl, it is worth taking a closer look at such a decision. Of course, not everyone will like the picture on the wall, but replacing it is not difficult. The principle itself is important. Pure white walls and a graceful vase, a green flower on the window are perfect as a design solution even in the country. However, experts believe that there is even more prospect of such a design in a city apartment.
You can apply an alternative solution. The bottom line is to use a large number of shelves mounted on a white wall. They will not only contain many valuable, necessary things. Together with these things an elegant composition is formed, with a skillful approach. And this photo clearly shows that even the “heavily-forced” interior of gray tones can look brilliant if it was thought through to the smallest detail.
