Even the most expensive interior can be ruined by improperly selected curtains. Therefore, the design of the window in the bedroom should be given a little more time than usual, but the ideal result will delight you every day.

General rules

The bedroom is the place where you relax, gain strength and spend calm cozy evenings with your soulmate. The whole atmosphere in the room should accompany coziness and relaxation, therefore the interior and decoration of the room are especially important. Finishing, textiles, furniture - everything should be combined with each other, not to "cut" the eye. This also applies to window decoration in an apartment or house. If the room is rectangular in shape, standard, measuring 13-20 square meters. m, then, as a rule, the window in it is standard rectangular, with a window sill and slopes.

If the window sill is not used as a table or bench (at low height), then you can issue it with lightweight tulle and blackout curtains in a classic way. You need to consider only a few nuances:

  • choose a tulle without shine, matte, plain with a barely noticeable print or without it;
  • curtains can be light or dense (blackout), the latter are designed to completely block daylight to darken the room during daytime sleep or in the morning;
  • fabric for curtains should be of high quality, non-synthetic, without cheap gloss, plain curtains of good length with a margin are in fashion.

If the room has a balcony, then as a window decoration you can use not curtains, but a light muslin. So you let in enough daylight into the room, which, if desired, can be blocked by curtains or blinds on the balcony (if it is glazed). If the balcony is not glazed, then it makes sense to hang traditional blackout curtains in combination with tulle.

Color schemes

To choose the right color for curtains, you need to follow several principles.

  • The shade of textiles is selected depending on the rest of the room. If the room is small, then the color of the curtains can be in tone with the walls, or a tone lighter or darker. This will help visually expand the space.
  • The curtains can be emphasized. If the whole room is decorated in calm neutral tones, then the window can be a bright spot, especially if the room is large enough.
  • If there are several windows in the bedroom (2-3 or more), it makes sense to design them in contrast to “break” the wall into segments. But the tone of the textile should be from the same color scheme with the room. For example, light gray cold walls and light blue cold curtains.
  • To combine the interior of the room into a single whole, especially the area of more than 25 squares, you should design a window so as to “link” the walls. The color of the curtains in this case is selected according to the existing shade, for example, the textiles on the bed and curtains can be from the same material and the same color.

Avoid too bright shades of curtains so that textiles do not "cut" the eye. Beautiful deep shades are in fashion (olive, dusted with lilac or purple, gray, blue, aquamarine, berry, etc.).

Curtain selection

There are quite a few types of curtains, some of them quickly become irrelevant, and some always remain in fashion. For example, classic long curtainsconsisting of two wide canvases on rings or invisible hooks. Due to the large width, they can be beautifully draped on both sides of the window.

Such curtains are usually hung complete with a light tulle. French curtains are not widely used today, since they look most harmonious on high baroque or classicism windows. They represent a large fabric cloth, divided into symmetrical sectors by a vertical braid.

A cord is passed through it, and then the curtain is assembled into scallops. Such curtains can most often be seen in luxurious royal chambers. For an ordinary apartment or a modern house, they are hardly suitable.

Crossed curtains are two canvases fixed at opposite ends of the cornice. They can be equipped with pickups and tulle. They look beautiful and rich, they are suitable for a classic bedroom interior.

Japanese curtains - Another fashion trend. They are rigid strips of fabric fixed to the frame. Usually there are several of them, they move along the width of the window, but are not adjustable in height (when buying, select the desired length). Such curtains perfectly block light and look fresh in a modern interior.

In a room with a balcony, instead of the usual curtains, you can hang thread curtains. The window will look finished and harmonious, while access to the balcony will not be difficult.

Roman curtains - A good option for a bedroom above the first floor. A canvas of dense or medium density fabric along the width of the window folds up thanks to inserts in narrow horizontal pockets on the canvas and a special cornice with a lifting mechanism. You can raise the curtain using the lace, which you need to pull down. Look good in the interior in the style of minimalism.

Design options

There are a lot of design options for window curtains, but the first thing you need to pay attention to is the window itself. It can be standard, with access to the balcony, angular, to the floor, etc. The future design of the curtains depends on the design of the window. The window with access to the balcony can be decorated using the following options.

  • The usual classic long curtains on both sides and tulle. In this case, you need to hang the tulle so that the entrance to the balcony is not difficult.
  • Hang one long curtain on the side of the balcony door, decorate the top of the eaves along the entire length with a lambrequin, and decorate the window with short curtains with a cornice in the middle of the window.
  • Roman roller blinds are also a great option for a window with a door. A long cloth should be hung on the door, and a short one on the window.

Corner window constructions with a beautiful panoramic view should not be heavily draped. You can hang the usual long curtains on both sides of the window on different walls, so that if you want to close the window with curtains completely. At the same time, the edges of the curtains converge just in the corner. In this case, you can not hang the tulle, or, conversely, do it only if the apartment is on a high floor and not on the sunny side.

If the bedroom is located in your home and has several windows of different sizes, for example, one large and two small, you can decorate them with roller blinds from a beautiful matting fabric. Wicker accessories, natural wood furniture will support a harmonious interior.

Panoramic windows in an apartment or house look very stylish, especially if the window has a picturesque view. It is best to design large windows with simple, but high-quality translucent matte floor textiles. Such curtains or tulle should lie softly on the floor and form beautiful folds across the entire width. If desired, such windows can be additionally closed with integrated horizontal blinds. In this case, tulle or light curtains should be unprinted or with a barely noticeable pattern to match the fabric.

Additional decorative elements

Ordinary curtains can be interestingly decorated so that the window does not look boring. For example, use beautiful garters for curtains (with flowers, stones, tassels, thick cord, etc.). Another decor option is to hang long threads with stones, beads or beads on the cornice. An alternative to such threads is a mesh with thin metal plates of small size. They can hang on their own, or in combination with plain curtains.

What designers do not recommend today is ruffles, lace lambrequins, lace, frills, hard carved lambrequins. Such decor has long been out of fashion and looks cheap. The windows themselves can be decorated with decorative stickers. Stained glass windows with colorful accents look beautiful.

At the same time, window decoration with curtains should be simple, it is better to choose textiles plain and discreet.

How to functionally organize the space?

The space around the window should not be wasted - the space can be used functionally. Most often, the window area in the bedroom is limited to the windowsill. Unnecessary things, books or flowers are stored on it. But you can not stop there and arrange the space around the book shelves, closed cabinets or open shelves, put a desk or make a couch.

Built-in wardrobes - a great solution for any size bedroom. In a small room, cabinets will help to solve the problem with the storage system, in a large room - harmoniously arrange furniture and things. Having decided to equip the area around the window, you should first decide what to do with the heating battery.

There are several ways.

  • Make a box of drywall and close the battery with a decorative grill. Then put racks or cabinets from floor to ceiling on the sides of the window.
  • Set a large table with two pedestals instead of a windowsill. The battery will remain under the table and it will not be noticeable.

Cabinets on both sides of the window can be closed, for example, with glass doors or they can be closed with curtains. The option looks stylish when the cabinets are open, and the window is decorated with a Roman curtain. This option of arranging the area around the window is suitable for both the children's and adult bedrooms, as well as for the study. Moreover, the area of the premises can be from 15 to 18 square meters. If the window is large and the window sill is low from the floor, then instead of it you can make an excellent couch.

The window sill needs to be removed, a box made of drywall and a large wide surface, on which a soft thick feather bed is then laid, upholstered in tone with the rest of the textiles in the bedroom.

Good examples in the interior

There are many good ideas for decorating any windows in the bedroom - from standard to corner and panoramic. For example, an ordinary window in a small bedroom can be decorated simply but stylishly: light tulle without a milk-colored pattern, long textile curtains with a small geometric print. The bedspread can be made of the same fabric on the bed. That is how complete harmony in the interior will be achieved.

Panoramic windows in a large spacious bedroom require special attention. The interior in a classic style in bright colors looks interesting. Here, large windows on the floor are decorated with dense heavy curtains of light color, which are beautifully draped, picked up in an unusual way and decorated with a discreet lambrequin.

Corner windows in the house - it is always beautiful. If the bedroom has a sufficient area, then you can arrange such windows as in the photo: the window closest to the decorative wall is decorated with Japanese curtains and beautiful plain-colored curtains. The corner window remains open and transmits a lot of daylight, but if desired, it can be closed by the tulle, which is located on the third window. A perfect example of a modern concise and stylish interior.
