A dog in a house is a friend, faithful and sincere, attached to a person and ready to serve him. It is joy for many years and pleasant chores. True, these troubles are not always harmless. If the dog bites everything, the owners grab their head, scold the little dog, but rarely realize who is to blame for such mischief of the pet. And the fault is in the owner himself.

Why do dogs bite everything?

There are several reasons leading to the fact that in the absence of the owner (and sometimes even with him) the dog gnaws at what comes under his teeth.

The first possible reason for this hooliganism is that the dog is not accustomed to the place.

She should have her own bed, her rug or rug, where he should be, while the owners are not at home. From the very beginning, the dog should explain that in the absence of the owners he must be in his place: you can go to the bowl with food, but he cannot wander around the house, looking for shreds.

Such restriction may seem wild to someone: a dog is literally tied to a couch, a step to the right, a step to the left is already punishable. But this is not savagery and not cruelty, but the dog’s training in the rules that govern his relations with the owners, and which organize his own safety. And if the dog goes to the bathtub, he takes out the washing powder and pats it - poisoning is guaranteed.

But so that the dog does not get bored in its place, it must be taken. Ordinary dog toys.

And this is also a master's omission if the dog’s toys are not left.

It is natural for him to gnaw, this is normal, but it is also normal for a dog to know what can be chewed and what cannot. Toys exist for that, so that the dog can hone the bickering.

As toys fit:

  • small balls, necessarily made of hard rubber;
  • toys made of leather, hooves, tendons;
  • special game dice.

If you consider that old soft toys, newspapers and unnecessary clothes will pass for toys for a pet, you are mistaken. Firstly, the dog will cope with them very quickly, but he will want to chew and gnaw again, so he will go in search of a “new victim”. Secondly, shredded soft toys and newspapers are still a sight to see, the cleaning will be serious.

So, the dog needs hard toys without a filler. They should not succumb to the dog’s teeth: they can bite, you can slightly deform them, but the dog will not be able to shred them into small pieces. The dog makes stuffing out of soft toys and most importantly - it can swallow the filler, and this is already very dangerous.

What else could be the fault of the owner, is that after the deed the dog was not punished. And this is an obligatory educational move. Gnawing things for a dog can become a way of discharge, it quickly turns into a habit, from which it is difficult to wean a pet. If the owner offered a toy, more than once, and the dog again takes on the old, you will have to scold him, and even gently slap the newspaper in a soft place. It's not about making the dog hurt, but about making him understand that the owner is angry and why he is doing it.

Finally, sometimes things gnawed by a dog are a reproach to the side of the not the most accurate owner. If they are scattered, it is worthwhile to closely monitor the order in the house. More than once, cases were described when a woman left home for a while, a man could not cope with a full-fledged cleaning, and a dog, accustomed to order, thus (protesting things) expressed protest.

Ways to correct behavior

Is it worth being angry at a young dog who has so much energy and strength, if out of boredom she has not found for herself anything else to do than shred household things.

Remember: do not offer the puppy an alternative, he will not stop biting everything.

To wean a dog from biting things, spoiling furniture and wallpapers, there are proven methods that you must follow.

  • Visit the nearest pet store, buy a pair of toys for the dog and train them to play only with them. Praise the dog for being frolic with the things intended for this, scolding him for deviations to the side.
  • Use special sprays. Theoretically, odor strength can also be used: special sprays are sold in zoo pharmacies, the composition of which affects the dog so negatively that it does not fit into the corner where the spray smells. What specific remedy to buy is best checked with your veterinarian.
  • Apply citrus essential oil. If you buy the essential oil of orange and grapefruit and apply it to the corners of furniture, walls or to another place in the house that the dog does not spare, he will begin to go around it. For people, such smells are pleasant (because you will not suffer), but animals do not tolerate the smell of citrus, for them it is sharp.
  • Establish training for teams. Finally, resort to intellectual methods of learning. The dog must clearly distinguish between prohibiting commands - "fu" and "not." These restrictive words are pronounced in a strict voice with an appropriate facial expression. They need to be said whenever a dog decides to pat his house slippers or arrange street shoes with his teeth. The process of education requires rigor: no game form and meaningful intonations - the dog will clearly catch it and will not refuse to play with you. In a naughty puppy, the owner squeezes the withers and says “no” or “fu” in a strict commanding voice. An adult dog can no longer squeeze the withers - this humiliates her.
  • Get a little walk with the dog. Sometimes that's just the point. It happens that a pet chews on one person’s shoes or starts to drag his shoes, thereby showing that he yearns for walks. Puppies that are still inconsistent and willful can do this. Of course, it is impossible to praise a dog for such a peculiar resourcefulness, but you need to listen to such “requests”.If the dog frolic enough enough on the street, if he is fed up with communication with the owner, he will not have the strength to do destructive home activity.
  • Giving him non-sharp bones. So the animal will be able to satisfy the hunter's own instinct, and your things will remain intact.
  • Make sure that you successfully resist the helminthization of the dog. It is believed that it is worms that cause concern to the animal, and it expresses it in excessive bickering. Helminth tablets should be given to the pet according to the schedule received by the veterinarian (usually 1 time in 3 months).
  • To train a dog not to be afraid to stay home alone. This is an important psychological moment, based on building up a trusting owner-dog scheme. Many dogs just get bored, they are afraid of forced loneliness, and so they begin to break off squabbles. The more you communicate with the animal, the more you demonstrate your joy when you get home, the faster he realizes that sometimes being alone is normal. When leaving for work, speak with the puppy and explain: “I will be back soon, behave yourself, these are your toys.” And when you come home, praise for purity and obedience.
  • Walking with a dog on a regimen. If the dog knows that it is time for a walk, it will be calm and will not bite everything.

Finally, take responsibility for all educational activities. Do not indulge, be strict in your requirements. In the meantime, the puppy is growing and can do pranks, do not leave valuables in its access area. Provocation is not a method of education.

What methods do not work?

The very first erroneous method is deferred punishment. If you decide to scold the dog a few hours after you discovered the torn shoes, there will be no sense in your lectures. The animal simply does not understand why the punishment was received so late for an obvious violation, and will not be able to adequately perceive it.

Such tactics as waiting for a dog to grow up will not work. Many owners "pierce" on it. The logic of man: the dog is still small, silly, all puppies tear and gnaw things, nothing will outgrow. It is immediately obvious that the dog was brought in without any understanding that it needs to be raised.

The absence of punishment is a serious blunder; you cannot raise a smart, obedient, well-bred dog in this way.

Common owner mistakes

The mistake of the owners is that they perceive the dog’s physiological need for biting as mischief. You need to clearly understand: there is an age when the pet’s teeth begin to be cut, it gives him discomfort, because he starts to gnaw everything that he sees. You do not need to scold him for the fact that his gums are itching, but leave an alternative method of discharge for cutting teeth.

Let him gnaw toys, let him do it often and a lot - for this they do not scold. But remove all valuable things from the dog’s field of vision, at this age he is a weak master of his instincts.

Physical punishment is the most common mistake.. It’s one thing to slap a doggie with a newspaper on the pope slightly (and just for the job), and it’s quite another to beat a dog. Fear, humiliation, resentment and revenge - these are the reasons for such instructive ways. Beating an animal causes him moral trauma, and with it no obedience matters.

Another mistake of the owner is an alternative to bickering in the form of old shoes. Since the dog likes to gnaw shoes so much, the owner decides to offer him a replacement - to give those that are not a pity. But shoes, even the most decrepit, should be inviolable, and this puppy should be immediately clear.

Respect, education, rigor and attention - this is what the dog needs. Do not hit, be consistent in your demands. Finally, when starting a dog, understand that it needs your time and energy. And then she will not bite everything in a row from longing, lack of upbringing and clear requirements.
