Representatives of the Spitz-like group are distinguished by their friendly and non-malicious character, complaisance, playfulness, mobility. One of its prominent representatives is Eurasian, which has gained popularity in European countries. These dogs are great companions, loyal and reliable friends. In the article, we will consider what is remarkable for the breed, and what should be considered by a person planning to become the owner of a Eurasian.

Characteristic

Eurasier is a breed of strong and hardy dogs bred in Germany in the second half of the XX century. The main purpose of the breed is companion dogs, family dogs.

The Eurasians inherited the very best qualities from their ancestors. So, the initial breeds during the breeding of the Eurasianists were Wolfspitz, Chow Chow, Samoyed huskies. From them, the eurasiers got not only a noble and expressive appearance, but also a stable psyche, good disposition, endurance, energy, good intuition. They are easily amenable to training and training; they quickly memorize teams and learn new skills.

The Eurasians have protective qualities, but the natural absence of aggression against people does not allow them to be used as watchmen.

The average height at the withers of adults varies between 50-60 centimeters, weight - within 20-30 kilograms. These animals are characterized by a strong and stocky physique proportional to a strong body with moderately long and muscular paws.

The structure and shape of the muzzle of the eurasiers is typical of Spitz (the features are not rough, but not sharp). The presence of Samoyed blood in this breed causes a very bright, “smiling” expression of the muzzle. However, the presence of a skin fold on the low and flat forehead gives the general expression some seriousness and concentration.

A black edging is allowed around the mouth and eyes, making the muzzle of the eurasier even more expressive. The ears are small, erect, triangular in shape, with slightly rounded tips. The upper part of the ears is facing forward.

Eyes - large, with slightly overhanging upper eyelids. The lower jaw is rounded in proportion to the upper jaw. Bite - scissor-shaped (straight or tick-shaped also possible). The teeth are small, even, moderately wide.

The body of the eurasier is strong and compact, with a pronounced withers, a strong and elongated back, and a wide chest. The line of the abdomen is raised and taut. The tail is raised high, wrapped in a half ring.

Coat - thick and very dense, formed from the outer hair and undercoat. The traditional coat color is smoky gray, zoning gray, black, reddish red. Almost any plain color is considered acceptable. However, in accordance with the description proposed by the standard, white spots and white color are not allowed. On the face, a mask of a darker color is possible in comparison with the main color.

On the dog’s neck, the coat forms a magnificent collar, on the hips - fluffy “pants”. On the tail, the coat should be longer and lush than on the body.

Paws are muscular and straight. When examining the dog, both front and hind legs should look even and symmetrical, proportional to the body.

Hanging ears, small and closely set eyes, sparse or curly hair, a flat muzzle - these and other defects are usually referred to as disqualifying defects. A cowardice or, on the contrary, animal aggressiveness.

The average life expectancy of dogs of this breed is about 11 years. With proper care, the animal can live for more than 13 years.

Advantages and disadvantages

One of the advantages of dogs of this breed is that they can be kept both in a country house and in a city apartment. However, when planning to get this cheerful and active creature in city apartments, the potential owner must consider that the dog will need regular and long walks. Being by nature a very energetic animal, the eurasier will need not only walking, but also games and communication. However, indomitable temperament is not peculiar to them, therefore, physical activity among eurasiers should be relatively moderate.

Eurasians are easy to learn and quickly remember new teams. Dog handlers say that even an inexperienced breeder can cope with their upbringing. Dogs of this breed are perfect for practicing canine sports - agility, obedience. These features of eurasiers suggest an appropriate approach to animals from their owners. A person planning to get a dog of this breed must understand that his pet will need attention, communication, movement.

Another indisputable plus of the eurasiers is their goodwill and non-conflict. They easily find a common language with children, which allows them to fearlessly keep dogs of this breed in large families where there are babies.

The natural absence of aggression against outsiders does not allow the use of eurasiers as guard dogs. However, if this dog feels a danger threatening its owner, it can show its protective qualities.

Some breeders attribute to the minuses of the content of eurasiers the need for careful care of dog hair. The coat of these dogs requires regular combing and washing, without which the dog quickly acquires an unpresentable appearance.

A separate minus is that eurasiers are considered a rather rare breed of dogs. Outside Europe, animals of this breed are rare.For this reason, acquiring a Eurasian puppy can be fraught with certain risks. So, some unscrupulous sellers often sell puppies of more popular breeds (Wolfspitz, mixed breeds of Samoyed huskies) under the guise of Eurasians. Inexperienced buyers, poorly aware of the standards and rarity of this breed, may not suspect fraud when making such a transaction.

The rarity of the breed determines the rather high price of puppies. Kids eurasiers can not be suspiciously cheap, so this nuance should be paid special attention when buying an animal.

Character Features

Dogs of this breed easily find a common language with children, get along easily with other pets. With the owner and members of his family, Eurasians behave kindly and docilely. They are able to experience immense affection for their owner, to show great respect and love for him.

However, with all these qualities, the eurasier is a rather independent and strong-willed dog. They can be safely left alone for a short time, without fear that the pet, experiencing an attack of homesickness, will spoil things and furniture. Left alone, these dogs behave calmly. Not only country houses, but also ordinary city apartments are suitable for their maintenance.

Eurasiers are a real find for people who prefer an active lifestyle. These dogs willingly spend time in movement, games and walks. They are inquisitive, friendly, non-conflict, patient. In some cases, eurasiers can be stubborn and self-willed, in connection with which they initially require a strong-willed and confident master.

According to dog handlers, eurasiers are able to subtly feel the mood of their master and maintain a distance in cases where it is necessary. With a well-developed intuition, these animals can even become depressed if they feel that their owner is homesick and sad.

Content Rules

Despite the fact that eurasiers feel comfortable when kept in apartment conditions, they cannot be called sofa dogs. These animals need to spend energy during the day, so it is recommended that you walk with your pet at least twice a day. In addition, it is desirable, while living in the city, to periodically take the dog out to the countryside, where she can run and stretch herself in plenty.

Caring for eurasiers' hair involves regular combing of dogs. This procedure should be carried out at least 1-2 times a week. The animals of this breed do not need frequent bathing. The dog should be washed as the coat becomes dirty. Drying is best done with a hair dryer.

Like other representatives of the Spitz-like group, the Eurasians do not tolerate hot weather. As the air temperature rises, they become lethargic. Their thick coat in the heat significantly increases the risk of heat stroke. However, these dogs tolerate cool and frosty weather very well.

What to feed?

The diet of eurasiers in general does not differ from the menu prescribed for Spitz and huskies. These can be special industrial feeds (preferably of holistic class and premium and super-premium categories), and natural food (“natural”).

When planning a dog diet made from natural products, it is necessary to precisely balance the sources of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. All these components are required by the animal body for full development and growth.

The list of acceptable products includes such as:

  • low-fat types of meat (beef, lean meat, pork without fat, horse meat, poultry);
  • boiled offal;
  • chicken eggs;
  • buckwheat and rice porridge;
  • dairy products;
  • lean species of fish;
  • boiled vegetables.

It is also recommended that a little vegetable or olive oil be added to the dog’s daily menu. This will favorably affect the condition of the coat and skin of the pet.

Training

Eurasians are easily trained, so even an inexperienced master can teach them basic commands. It is important to consider that dogs of this breed do not tolerate rudeness, stiffness, aggression on the part of humans. The training process is desirable to build gradually, providing the animal with an adequate amount of load.

Training should be regular and ongoing. Preferably, the owner of the animal trained in accordance with the plan. Classes should be alternated with pauses, during which the dog will be able to relax and get a little distracted.

During training, it is important to ensure the complete absence of distracting and annoying third-party factors. While the dog is mastering the command, obeying the owner, there should not be other animals nearby, strangers and children.

Teams should be given in a clear and confident voice, without distorting the name of the animal. Whenever the dog correctly executes the command given to it, the animal must be encouraged with a treat. As a treat, you can use boiled slices of lean meat or boiled chicken hearts.
