Bananas have long been a tasty product for people. These fruits, with rare exceptions, are liked by our favorite pets - dogs. Possessing a wide vitamin spectrum, a banana rich in amino acids and minerals is not only pleasant to taste, but also extremely useful. Often these exotic fruits are also used as a favorite treat to reward our pets for a clear implementation of instructions.

About the benefits of bananas

It is possible to give dogs bananas, moreover, it is useful, subject to moderation and certain feeding rules.

Banana contains a wide range of vitamins, including vitamins C and B6, which enhance immunity. The fruit is rich in potassium and manganese, which beneficially affect the body of the animal, stabilizing blood pressure. A high degree of fiber in bananas ensures the effective functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. Complex carbohydrates, amino acids and sugars contained in bananas give strength and endurance to animals, effectively maintaining good muscle tone.

The presence of enzymes and antioxidants contributes to the beauty and health of the coat. In addition, bananas can be used in the form of rewards (if the dog likes bananas), due to its wonderful taste.

Bananas are extremely useful for dogs suffering from diarrhea when electrolytes and, in particular, potassium are intensively excreted from the body. Deficiency of these substances in the body may well compensate for the use of bananas. They contain pectin, which normalizes the process of bowel movement, eliminating various disorders in the intestines.

It is important to remember that the body of a dog, like a person, has individual characteristics. Therefore, in some cases, the use of bananas can cause harmful effects, such as, for example, allergies.

Proper feeding

To make the dog feel good and stay healthy, you need to follow simple rules when feeding it with bananas.

  • Before using banana for the first time, animals should consult a veterinarian. It is important to start feeding in small portions so that the dog's body is used to a new product. It is important to closely monitor the condition of the dog, controlling the possible signs of an allergy. Moreover, it should be borne in mind that fruits contain a significant amount of sugars, with intensive use of which animals quickly gain weight.
  • Unripe fruits do not harm the dog and half of this fruit once every 2-3 days is a perfectly acceptable option. Overripe fruit is forbidden to feed the pet, such products are highly likely to lead to an upset of the gastrointestinal tract of the animal due to a sharp change in the level of acidity.
  • Proper feeding of the dog with bananas involves their use twice a week, and the serving sizes directly depend on the size of the animal. For medium-sized dogs, the permissible norm is half a banana, for large individuals - 1-2 copies, for small ones - 1-2 pieces.
  • Dogs are fed raw bananas, cut into pieces, or in the form of mashed potatoes, previously mixed with the curd mass. This healthy dish will enrich the animal’s body with essential minerals.
  • The peel from bananas must be removed - it is not as pleasant in taste as the fruit itself. In addition, it contains a lot of fiber, and its overabundance adversely affects the functioning of the digestive tract of dogs. The peel is poorly absorbed by the stomach and can cause intestinal obstruction in the dog. In addition, many fruits are often processed with special chemical compositions for long-term storage. The ingestion of such substances into the animal’s stomach is highly undesirable.
  • The amount of banana treat depends on the breed of dogs. For example, a large mastiff without harm to itself can use several pieces. A half-fruit can be quite enough for a Dalmatian of medium size, but one or two pieces will be enough for dwarf breeds.
  • Pregnant animals are allowed to give this food product within acceptable limits. For lactating bitches, fruit can be useful as a means of stabilizing the level of immunity in the postpartum period.
  • For inactive pets, a diet with bananas will be unnecessary, as it will affect weight gain.
  • Bananas are usually given to puppies from 1.5 months of age, while combining with the intake of vegetables and fruits. If initially a small pet refuses food unusual for him, does not eat it, then he should be accustomed to this - the benefits brought by bananas are beyond doubt. The activity and high tone of the puppy should be maintained.

Possible negative consequences

Excessive feeding of the dog with bananas leads to frequent constipation and although this product itself is not toxic, but in large quantities it is digested and absorbed poorly.

Individual intolerance to bananas can be expressed in dogs with signs of hyper-excitement or lethargy, food poisoning and periodic vomiting. If a combination of such symptoms is found, the dog should rinse the stomach with manganese or soda-salt solution (one teaspoon per 200 mg of warm water). Then it is necessary to provide the dog with drink, apply activated charcoal and, without delaying it in a long box, seek the help of a veterinarian.

If the dog begins to suffer from atypical constipation or diarrhea, gas production, this means that the product does not suit your pet or the intake of exotic fruits has been overestimated. Then they should be removed from the animal’s menu.

Leaking eyes, the formation of a rash on the body (blisters and acne), flaky skin, falling hair are possible signs of an allergic disease. An effective treatment regimen for allergic manifestations can only be determined by a veterinarian.

It is important to understand that with complex forms of this disease, breathing is impaired and a fatal ending is possible. Therefore, you should not delay a visit to the veterinarian.

How to replace?

If the dog does not like bananas, the deficiency of useful components can be compensated by apples - a hypoallergenic product with a wide taste spectrum, within which you can choose the most pleasant and suitable one for the pet. A substitute for bananas can be a melon, which must be given to the animal in small quantities.

Dogs may also like not quite mature plums (pitted). Overripe plums should not be given to animals, as they can cause severe stomach upsets.

Your pet may like pears with its pleasant flesh. It is permissible to give dogs blueberries and gooseberries, ripened without chemistry, in a natural way.
