Night curtains serve as a decoration of the hall and at the same time perform a protective function, protecting a person from curious onlookers and annoying light. Curtains are the final touch in the interior decoration.

Features and requirements

In the cultural heritage of different countries, their colors and patterns of materials for decorating window openings are determined:

  • England is a country where it often rains, turning days into gray everyday life, so the population prefers materials with bright large colors that create a rainbow-colored mood;
  • home improvement in the Scottish style is completed by curtains with a checkered pattern symbolizing the masculine beginning, which means stability and balance;
  • the interior in oriental style involves decorating the living room with heavy fabrics with interweaving of gold threads and fabulous patterns.

    There are requirements that are considered common when decorating all types of living rooms.

    1. Night curtains for the hall involve the choice of appropriate fixtures. For example, for living rooms with low ceilings, ceiling eaves are better suited, visually increasing the height of the room.
    2. To decorate the windows facing south and east, fabrics that transmit less light and are resistant to ultraviolet rays are used.
    3. For a living room of a large size, complex structures made of expensive material, complemented by lambrequins, are more suitable. In a small room it is better to hang light curtains from simple material - they will create a cozy atmosphere in the room and visually increase the space.
    4. Curtains should be harmoniously combined with furniture, cornices, wallpaper.

    Varieties

    The following curtains are used for living rooms with ceiling cornices:

    • single layer;
    • double;
    • multilayer;
    • curtains with lambrequin.

    The use of ceiling cornices provides practicality and restraint.

    Materials and color

    Before purchasing curtains for the hall, you should pay attention to the natural illumination of the room. Light fabrics of light colors are suitable for a dark room, and, conversely, in a living room with windows to the south, it is better to hang curtains made of lightproof material.

    When choosing the style of curtains, the size of the room should be considered. A large Scottish cage looks great in a large living room with plain walls, curtains with a picture in a small cage boldly fit into the interior of a small hall with bright wallpaper. Living rooms in a modern style allow you to experiment with different types of curtains.

    Creating comfort in the room largely depends on the correct choice of material from which the curtains are sewn.

    • Lungs. These are fabrics of soft colors with an unobtrusive pattern (cotton, linen, silk, plain with printed pattern, muslin, lace fabric).

    Harmonize with any decor in the living room and visually expand the space.

    • Heavy. Materials rich texture and traditional colors. These include tapestry fabric, as well as brocade, thick wool with a golden pattern, thick silk (curtains let in a little light and create a magnificent twilight in the room).
    • Smooth. These are fabrics of noble tones with textured patterns that are not conspicuous. They bring elegance and sophistication to the interior.
    • Patterned. These are curtains with floral arrangements, in a cage or stripes. They give the living room a rustic style and simplicity.
      • Bright. These are fabrics with flashy contrasting patterns. They are ideal for the side version, look good on the large windows of large living rooms.

      Mounting Options

      Ceiling cornices are used to visually increase the height of the room, as well as in cases where the height of the window frames is almost flush with the ceiling. There are two types of ceiling cornices: string and rail.

      String

      It has the appearance of a string on which solid metal hooks are located. The tension of the wire is regulated by two mechanisms fixed to the ceiling along the sides of the window over the entire width of the wall. Curtains have a good stroke, the design is not dangerous for children.

      Rail (metal)

      It resembles a rail in form and has two tracks. Between the tracks there are ledges, which are clasped on both sides by plastic hooks, sliding on the ledge. The metal structure is held by two fasteners on the ceiling on the sides of the window, the rail can be prefabricated (depending on the width of the window). The cornice is not safe for children, since the prefabricated structure can decompose from sudden movements when driving.

      Rail (plastic)

      Plastic multi-row cornices-rails are fastened with screws directly to the ceiling and are considered the safest and most demanded. The modern design of the cornice provides additional tracks for lambrequins. To hold the curtains, plastic hooks are used with latches that limit the hinges from jumping off.

      At present, plastic and metal cornices-rails with runners are on sale. If there is a need to hang curtains in front of the window opening, the bar can be fixed on the ceiling with screws. All types of rail cornices have a similar principle of operation of mechanisms.

      Selection recommendations

      At present, designer novelties such as multilayer curtains with a tie (lambrequin)that are suitable for the living room, made in the classical style. The holder for such curtains can be a multi-row ceiling cornice rail - its use increases the height of the curtains, giving the room a solemn appearance.

      On a wire ceiling cornice, a non-moving curtain made of transparent material looks good. Also, a string cornice is an ideal solution for decorating a giant window to the middle. The wire is located on top of the crossbar that divides the window in half, and is not visible to the eye.

      This type of cornice involves the use of lightweight tissue that does not create sagging.

      Cornice rails are suitable for a small living room. They merge with the interior, without creating unnecessary problems in the arrangement. For such a cornice, it is better to use smooth plain fabrics of contrasting colors using various combinations.

      A flat curtain rail is required for a window with frames under the ceiling. In this case, flower curtains can be a good option. The combination of modern and classic rustic styles brings warmth to the room and creates a solemnity.
